I'm a mother of three and love celebrating my children's birthdays! However, due to the financial strain and a loss of one job, it's been hard cutting back costs to accomodate our family's needs. I'm always capturing precious memories by scrapbooking or creating albums .. I guess this is because I don't have many baby or childhood pictures of my own. Anyway, what I am getting at is that you can still afford in a lot of cases to still have a wonderful birthday celebration, even if it is just with close family and friends! You don't have to go all out and get the expensive birthday cake and huge jumpers and entertainment! Pick a theme and then go with it - make your items. I custom create invitations of any sort and theme and they are super affordable and of high quality! These are great for incorporating pictures and act as a keepsake to your child's birthday! www.creativeinspirations4u.webs.com Going back to the theme - pick a theme but don't go all out buying all the matching plates, etc. You can custom create your own table settings, buy paperware and different supplies in matching colors (much cheaper than buying the actual themed paperware) and you can even stick stickers on some supplies like cups, etc., if you want. Choose your cake from the local grocery store or Costco or Sams Club instead of an expensive cake vendor - they do themes as well! Or make your own cupcakes - this is even cheaper! Pick an easy menu that can be prepared in advance so you're not running around crazy that day trying to feed everyone .. for kids' birthdays just do hot dogs, veggies or fruit, snacks like animal crackers, and make a thing of punch. Super easy and affordable. You can boil the hot dogs in advance and wrap them in the bun in aluminum foil and keep them all either in a cooler (traps heat) or foil pan covered. This keeps them warm for hours! Seriously! Easy activities for kids - either easy outdoor play (bubbles, chalk, music going, balls, etc.) or set up craft stations, play dough stations, art stations .. easy entertaining! No huge fuss, no huge cleanup, no big costs! Have a wonderful time planning and celebrating your kids' birthdays! They only come once a year and each are a blessing!

I think you still can have party despite the hard economy. You just have to learn to budget. Like if you normally invite 10 or more people, this time you can trim it down to just your closest friends and relatives. If before you celebrate it in a hotel, why not celebrate it at your house so you can save on the venue payment.

One can celebrate birthday without hurting his/her budget. Personalizing your party could help you minimize expenses. As to foods, plan you dish. Learn to substitute expensive ingredients with cheap ones. As to birthday ideas, this site could help http://www.gifti.us

We celebrate birthdays of children at their age of 3yrs as they too can enjoy the party too with out any irritation and thereafter we give a gap of 3yrs and again we celebrate the party with some important guests and later on we leave it on for the kids and allow them to party with their friends only and that to once in 3yrs only. And every time this doesnot cost expansive and we enjoy a lot as parting after years all together.

I would never not have a birthday party for my child because of money. I always have the family over for dinner and cake. Everyone brings a dish to pass and I make the cake. It doen't cost that much money. For a kids party we had a sleep over this year. I made pizza and we played games~ had a scavenger hunt, water balloons, frisbee ect. It was fun and not too expensive.

I too have kids and parties are I think over done as is. The best party we have had so far was at a park. It was great, plenty of equipment to keep kids busy, tables to sit at, no need to worry about crumbs! It was perfect.
