Do You Shampoo Everytime You Shower???

I do almost every single time, and then last night on some show I was watching on television the hairdresser that was on the shower said it's not good to shampoo everyday because it can strip your hair. I don't care what she said though because if I don't shampoo and condition I would look like a had a huge nest on my head that I could never even comb out. So I'd like to know if you do the shampooing ritual every time you shower.

I use shampoo in alternate days. And of course I use conditioner because without it my hair feels rough. I would say that person was right saying that one should not use shampoo daily, but it is fine to use it in alternate days and you must oil your hair once in a week. Massage your hair with good amount of oil, keep it for an hour and then wash it nicely with your shampoo and apply conditioner. The oil has done its work already, so no need to keep it unnecessarily in your hair. Cheers!!

I have oily hair but the ends are very dry. What kind of oil are you talking about using? I have heard things like hot oil and someone on here had mentioned using olive oil which I have heard in the past. I didn't know that it was used before the shampoo. I thought it was after and then a rinse. Do you get your hair wet first and then add the oil or what?

I think it depends on the hair type. My hair goes from dry in the winter to oily in the warmer months. During the summer I wash my hair every day. If I did not it would look greasy and yucky! BLAH! During the winter I will wash it every other day. I do use a clarifying shampoo and conditioner for my hair. Even during the winter it does have a tendency to get oily every once in a while but I can switch up the types of shampoo I use. I go between a clarifying shampoo and a voluminizing shampoo in the cooler months. I have also heard that shampooing daily can strip your hair. Mine is normally easy to manage (thankfully)!

i AM ALSO A HAIRDRESSER, RETIRED. In the summer i shampoo most every day because i perspire on my head so bad. In the winter i don't shampoo every day usually every other. If u use a good shampoo & conditioner & i don't mean from wal-mart i really don't think it hurts your hair but using good products makes all the differenc in the world.

iN THE LONG RUN THEY PAY OFF. tHEY ARE SO CONCENTRATED THAT BUYING CHEAPER THINGS JUST RUN DOWN THE DRAIN. I definitely think they are worth it in more ways than one. A liter of good shampoo will last u a year.

i also shampoo everytime i shower since i have oily skin and that means oily hair. actually i soap my head first with ivory since even the mildest baby shampoo makes my scalp breakout so i have to render it dry. then i shampoo with a moisturizing baby shampoo .

I guess I have never noticed them because when I shop for shampoo I always kind of skip the section that has stuff for the kids. I go straight for the Suave or the Dove and other stuff like that. I like the Aussie brands of shampoos and conditioners too. I'll have to check out and try the baby shampoo with the moisturizer the next time I buy that stuff.

two giant companies have this. johnson's has the pink one which has gentle conditioners and their yellow orange one that has honey and wheatgerm essences. they used to have 3 but they combined the last type i mentioned. suave also has 2 in one for kids. i think any country has this if they encourage exports and have factories of johnson and johnson.

I have my shower everyday! When I played at volleyball and I had 3 trainings and a match everyweek, I had to wash necessarily my hair everytime... Now, that I can't play volleyball for some physical problems , I have otherwise my shower everyday, but I'm trying to wash my hair a day yes and a day not, because I don't want to weaken my hair!

I think every hairdresser has different opinions. My hairdresser advised me to wash my hair once everyday. It is good to remove all the dirt and oil in order to have a healthy scalp.Once the scalp is healthy, hair will tend to grow faster and free of dandruff and hair loss. I was suffering hair loss problem since 4 months ago but after switching to hair loss shampoo and have my hair washed everyday, the hair loss problem has improved. Maybe it depends on individual hair scalp condition......

Hi dfinster, I rather have bath´s than showers and yes, then I alwasy shampoo my hair using both shampoo and condition to stratin out the hair. I have such a long hair that it is mostly a must to have it cleaned and taken care of every second day. It would be stupid if I did not take care of the hair at the same time take care of the body

yes, you could say that, not only is it long, but it is also thick. therefore my hairdresser always tell me to use a hair dryer so I do not get bad ithie eczema becouse it takes so long before it dry´s. I usually had short hair, but since it is so expensive to go to hairdresser, I sometimes neglect to go and my hair grow very fast, and now, when it has grown so long, I cant bare cut it of...

Unless I have just popped into the shower to cool off from the summer heat, yes I do shampoo. From the looks of most of the hairdressers I have seen on t.v. the past few years I wouldn't take any advice they give, although I'd be happy to give most of them a comb and show them how to use it on their own heads

This is why I have always used a barber in a barbershop. They at least have a decent hairstyle on their heads. If I saw most hairstylists and they told me to sit in their chair, I would run for my life

In the morning, i do shampoo everyday but when i do shower at night no. There are so many shampoo with conditioners now that are gentle and good to our hair. These days that we experience erratic weather ie, too cold or too hot, you sometimes can't stop shampooing your hair everytime you take a bath.

I live in a city and tropical country, if you didn't shampoo everyday you will feel eeewwww....Maybe if your living in a country like Canada, UK I think it's alright not to use shampoo everyday because the weather is cold you just need the conditioner for the hair. But in my country even if you stay home you still feel that you need to shampoo everyday. That's why I shampoo my hair everyday but I'd like to practice that too using conditioner alone especially it's rainy season now in my country. Happy mylotting!

Not shampooing every day is probably one of those myths that has no basis in fact. Some of the shampoos use too much detergent so can be harsh on the hair, however there is skin under the hair and if you do not wash that, then you are not washing yourself all over. Like finding the right soap that does not dry out your skin, you have to find the right shampoo. If I do not shampoo, my head gets itchy and oily. I use Head and Shoulders 2in1 classic clean and it works for me. I cannot believe the amount of responses to your question. It seems a very popular subject.

Yes, I shampoo my hair everyday, I can't say that I have taken a bath if I haven't washed my hair with shampoo. And I have to use a conditioner after every shampoo coz I feel my hair is unmanageable without a conditioner. I know shampooing every day can damage the hair, but I feel my hair is messy when I don't use shampoo.

Most of the time, I do shampoo my hair daily. It's because my scalp gets oily easily. I don't feel comfortable mingling with my friends if my hair smells like it hasn't been washed for a few days. In short, having fresh hair boost up my confidence. :)

I always shampoo when I shower. My hair is oily so if I dont wash my hair when I shower it gets very oily and limp. I have heard that as well about not shampooing everyday but I cant take a shower without shampooing. I am a fanatic about taking care of my hair.

I shampoo my hair everyday. I have really oily hair, so if I don't shampoo everyday it looks like I haven't washed my hair in a week. I also can't use certain shampoos. The only shampoos that I really like to use are Tressemme Deep cleansing and Neutrogena anti residue. I don't use conditioner that often but when I do, I put it on the bottom of my hair and not on the top, my hair is just too oily. I can't ever go a really long time without washing my hair. I don't really care if it is not good for my hair either, if they think it is possible for me to not wash my hair as often as I do then they are crazy. I hate the feeling of having oily hair, it makes me feel like I am dirty or my hair is really dirty.

It feels like my shower is not complete without shampooing my hair so I can't really obey the hairdresser's advice. I can't leave the bathroom without a shampooing and conditioning my hair. I don't know why others can manage without everyday shampoo. But as for me I find nothing wrong with shampooing everyday. My hair remains healthy and shiny in fact. I just do the regular hot oil treatment aside form daily hair conditioning.

Hi dfinster! I know that most hairstylists do say that it isn't good for your hair to shampoo it every day! But, I am like you! I have fine curly hair and if I don't wash it and condition it I can't do anything with it! It gets all knotted and I can't even comb it! I have tried skipping a day of shampooing once in awhile and only using conditioner, but it just doesn't feel right! I feel as long as I'm in the shower I might as well just wash it! I do have very dry hair so I do know that I'm not doing my hair any good by shampooing it everyday! That's why I am really trying to skip the shampoo part and only conditioning it every other day!

I have heard that too; however, I typically either run or walk the dogs every day, and in the heat of the summer in Georgia, going without washing your hair is not optional. I would smell like the dogs! My scalp gets so sweaty when out in the heat. In the winter, on days when I don't work out, I won't wash my hair. But I can't go more than a couple of days, or my head gets itchy and greasy. I hate that feeling!

I know what you were watching L.O.L. I have seen the same thing. I shampoo every time I shower because my hair is too oily not to. I noticed that no matter what shampoo that I use my hair a lot of the time still looks like I haven't washed it. I shampoo rinse and repeat,I would love to get the natural stuff the hairdresser was talking about. I checked out the site for his stuff and looked up what was in it. It sounded good.
