I was just reading another post about how "LOL" has become so mainstream and how people are over-using it, and it got me thinking, Where did it come from in the first place? Who actually decided to show there glee through a text message or instant message by condensing there response into an acronym?

LOL means to laugh out loud. I don't know from where it has come. But from wherever it has come it's a good thing.

It was the Belgium ambassador who "invented" LOL, in 1963. You can read the full text here: www.actiontrip.com/offbeat/shorthistoryoflol.phtml I hope this will clarify your question. Take care and happy mylotting! P.S. What doesn't stand in the text is that "LOL" expanded through the USENET.

I think people just like using acronyms to express themselves online. I don't know who exactly started it... That would be interesting to find out.
