Replacement Family

Do you have a reason that you don't spend time around your own family members and have found a certain person or other family you spend alot of time with instead?
One of my best friends is more like a brother to me than my own brothers.
My neighbor is more like a mom to me than my own mom....

When I was a teenager, I felt closer to friends' families than my own. I guess familiarity breeds contempt, as they say. Now that I'm in my 50's, nobody can replace my family and I feel closer to them than anyone else.

I'm glad you are close to your family.
For me, I have one sister and one brother that I keep in contact with and am worried about their well being (they have alot of problems, not having handled growing up the way we did very well)and that's it out of 4 brothers and one sister. The brother I talk to has been in the military and rarely comes home to visit because he hates the way him and his family are treated by my parents but feels guilty if he don't stop to see them.

Your brother is a good man, a wise. He'll never have to kick himself for cutting off his family. I learned long ago that your family, even the ones you don't like, are people you need to see. If you don't then when they're gone you'll regret it eventually. Live your live so that you have no regrets, no matter how painful it might be sometimes.

This holds true for me sometimes too. I am not close to some of my family and I have found comfort being around other people because of it. I am very close to my husband mainly right now though.

I'm glad you're close to your hubby, I hope you have a long and happy life together!!
I think it's cute when I see two old people walking and holding hands, smiling at each other and everyone around them.....when you two are really old, I want pictures!!
