I keep seeing these products in pharmacies that say if you take these pills before eating, then the fat in that meal is excreted from the body. One of the main ingredients is something called Chitosan. I would like to lose 10 lbs in 6 weeks before I go on vacation and was wondering if any of use have tried it. Have you tried anything like this and do you know if it is healthy to use? I do not want to pay for a doctor's visit to find out about it. Am primarily concerned if it is ssafe. Does anyone know? Is it a waste of money to buy?

Are you talking about Alli? If so, make sure you eat a low fat diet. I know people who have used it for long periods of time. If they eat too much fat in their diet, they poop in their pants because they couldn't get to the bathroom in time. It was designed for people to lose weight faster, but it is definitely for serious people. If you eat in a low fat way, you will almost certainly lose that amount of weight in that amount of time. Probably more. Just make sure to take a vitamin, and it is better if you take the vitamon at night. I did take Alli once for about two months. The pharmacist said it's best to take the vitamin at night because it gives your body all night to absorb the vitamins your body may have lost during the day with the effects of Alli. It's safe to use. Even if you're not talking about Alli, the product you are referring to is probably a lot like it.

You know, the Alli used to be available only through prescription. And I knew a guy who took it, but he got it from his wife because she had been taking it, but stopped. His wife told me he was on a trip with her and their kids, and on the way home he pooped in his pants. He said he just meant to pass gas, but of course with the strength of the medicine, everything came out.

I have never even heard of it...but I know about how much you want to lose the weight! I lost 17 pounds before vacation...and gained 14 back! I am so mad at myself. I went to Walmart the other day and found Crystal Light packets that you put in a bottle of water...its supposed to have metabolism plus in it. I drank one and got the shakes! There was so much caffiene in it that my heart raced.....so be very careful what you try!

No I could not take that as i am on meds for hypertension and another one for my heart problem. I do so want to lose weight. Just 10lbs would make my clothes fit better. And I really don't need replies from people saying to exercise. I leave early in the morning and get home quite late some nights. I do walk around the prooperty at work 3 times a day whereas I onlu used ot do it once for the day

I don't know and am would take caution when using diet aids. Though you may not loss as much, besides a good exercise routine, I take 4a tablesppon of vinegar and a tablespoon of honey and mix it in a cup of hot water. Taken 1/2 hour before breakfast and before bed each evening, it seems to help with some of my extra fat. I got this from a myspace friend living in India who has a lot of natural beauty tips and this is one I like.

I will try this. I know if I do a liver de tox then I take olive oil and lime juice and it did work - especially when I had gall stones - it excreted so many. There was another ingredient but I cannot remember it. Is it apple cider vinegar?

I haven't tried it myself, but I did a little Googling and there doesn't seem to be any scientific backing to the claim that Chitosan is a "fat magnet".

Cyn, The safeness of the product depends on you and your health. In my opinion I would speak to your pharmacist and ask him or her to look at your profile of medications and then get their opinion if it is safe for you. For people that are healthy and don't take medications, it's probably safe. You just need to be near a bathroom because it cleans you out. I asked my pharmacist and he said no. It's not so much that it interacts with your medication but it flushes it out of your system. You can even call the pharmacist on the phone. Good luck sweetie. Hugssss leenie

You have to eat a healthy diet, it is just a fat binding formula. I actually have a product like that for cheaper than the alli, completely natural and scientifically proven. If you go on my profile there is a link to my website and the product is called chitolite. You can not be allergic to shellfish as chitosan is derived from a shellfish source.

Please don't take pills for reducing your weight. I never take pills. Better i can give you an idea to reduce your weight naturally, provided you need to follow. The physical exercise is easier and effective. I tried as per my elder's advice and now got reduced. I used to climb the steps one hour after my breakfast, lunch and dinner for atleast 15 minutes. That's it and it worked for me. Why don't you try this ?

Hello dearie... I looked it up online and if you look at the "claimed health benefits" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chitosan it says it would only help you loose like 10 calories a day! Doesn't sound worth your money to me, most of those things never are. The last time I lost any weight we did an Atkins style diet via my Hubby & this was before Atkins. We ate meat & veggies (no starches or grains) and went to the gym 2 hrs everyday and I lost like 35 in 4 months only problem now is that we have kids, no child care & the FREE gym @ his work also doesn't provide child care soooo we are out of luck & I can't get as nearly an intense workout walking pushing the stroller as I can on some of those machines. What's a person to do? & I can't afford a gym membership & most places that do have child care want quite a bit extra on top of the membership. I think something like say $3/hr... $3/hr x2 hrs = $6 x 7 days = $42 x 3 kids = $126 in child care fees a week so I can work out!!! Yeah I guess I'll be fat a bit longer.

OMG is that all? I cannot take it anyway as it contains shellfish and I am allergic to shellfish. Read the posts and see the diet that someone poste4d. It makes snese and I am going for it, I think. Maybe not quite so stringent but it does make sense

I think your best is to call the pharmacy and ask them about the product and if they know anything about it. Another idea is to type chitosan in a search engine and look for it that way. I think I have seen something like this before, but I can't be certain that I have. I would say your best bet is something like slim fast. I lost 6 lbs the first week, and that's a lb. over half of what you want to lose. I also eat yogurt and that helps.

Don't try it. What the stuff does is prevent fat absorption by the body. It works, but you also will have nonstop oily diarrhea that is running out of your behind and no control over it. You will need to be in diapers because the stuff will just drip out nonstop. Rally yucky. It's also not healthy. You need some in your diet to absorb some of your vitamins. Better to watch what you eat. Cut back on the junk, cut back on the fatty foods, switch to whole grains, add more veggies. You will loose weight.

I lost weight slowly by eating a normal sensible diet. 30 pounds lost so far. I still eat some junk foods once in a while, but less often and smaller servings. Instead of buying the larger bargain packs, I buy 1 small snack pack. Yes, they cost more, but I'd rather spend a bit more per serving and get a portion controlled pack. Fortunately for me we have small packs of chips and such, like you would put in a kids lunch box available at the corner markets. I buy 1 and get my junk food fix without a ton of calories. My big diet downfalls are fats, butter, olive oil and pasta. I cut back on how much I used in my cooking without making any major diet changes. I still eat the same as before, but I use less fat and cook about 10% less pasta per meal.

It really sounds very gross but I have decided not to do it. One response gave me a dit that her odctor gave her and I am going to start it tomorrow. couldn't start it today as I hadn't shopped over the weekend and not much in the fridge! many thanks fopr your input. Another reason is that it contains shell fish and I am allergic to shellfish!

Sorry, I'm not a girl. Do not use it. It's not healthy, and it doesn't really work. Losing weight that fast is very unhealthy. If you really want to lose weight, and do not want to end up sick, walk 3 miles every day, and eat veggies and fruit only. I'd rather have you do that, then end up on vacation feeling ill, and sickly (even if thinner).

No, I have not used these products, If u do not want to pay for the doctor you can very well enquire for details at the pharmacy itself which sells this stuff. They may be able to give an idea. But confirm if it really works.
