Do you believe in UFOs?

In a recent poll of over 1000 British TV viewers, 55% said that they believed in UFOs. I find that quite surprising. A year or so back there was a story in the papers of mysterious lights which were seen by many people in the Midlands one summer night. There were too many witnesses (and photos) for it to have been a hoax but 'little green men' or 'visitors from another planet'??? ... Hmmmm! Do you believe in UFO's? Have you ever seen an Unidentified Flying Object (that was not a bird or a plane that you couldn't identify) ... something strange like lights in the sky or a very fast moving object? It seems that many people do believe in them, so what (if anything) do you think they REALLY are?

I believe in both UFO's and alien life forms, most definitely! When you consider that we are but one galaxy amongst billions of others, to not accept that other forms of life exist beyond us is naive in my opinion. I do belive I've seen a UFO before too. It was very late at night and I watched a group of lights moving extremely quickly in a triangular formation way up in the stars. The distances it was covering in such a short time frame were unbelievable and I stood there looking up at it's movement for a good 5 minutes before it suddenly shot off in one direction and then disappeared. As for the earth bound UFO sighting's, I do think that more times than not there'd be tangible explanations for what's been seen, but in parallel, there'd be many cover-ups as well. Roswell for example. To state this was a weather balloon is ridiculous if you ask me. The problem today is that UFO's and aliens have been marginilized into a flying saucer/little green men genre and this in turn has clouded a lot of people's perceptions I feel. "The Blue Book" is an example of a document that covers a lot of credible information regarding UFO's and sightings etc and maybe one day more information will be released because I'm convinced that governments keep a LOT of information from the public. Back to Roswell again, man landed on the moon within decades of that time, yet our advancements with flight prior to Roswell were nowhere near advanced enough to have made the leaps and bounds they did in such a short timeframe. It may all sound conspiratorial, but I do believe that there are many, many covered up instances throughout our history that will one day come to light. I hope so!

Last I heard, a colony of around 50 aliens came down to earth a few years back and disguised themselves as sumo suit rentals.

I thought I'd seen a UFO but it turned out to be a helicopter in the middle of a cloud. I don't think there are little green men but I do think there are UFO's. As some famous person once wrote, 'There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy.' I think there are many things around us that are unexplained but may be explainable in the future. After all, can you explain electickery to a person from Roman times?

When and if I meet someone who greets me with "Ave!" and acknowledges Julius, Antonius, Hadrianus or some other famous person as his Emperor, I will do my level best to acquaint him with the mysteries of the electron, the computer, televison and the camera. I should probably be dragged to Rome and forced to face the lions at the Emperor's pleasure for my pains. I would wish to be armed with a taser beforehand, I think, so that I could, at least, demonstrate the effectiveness of my sorcery. I think that, on the whole, I would prefer to try to impart the processes of paper making and printing, the secret of semaphore, the mysteries of Morse code, the intricacies of the internal combustion engine, all of which should be quite comprehensible and of great use to the expansion of the Empire.

It is quite obvious that the majority of sightings are not related in any way to extra-terrestrial beings, but I am naïve enough to totally dismiss the possibility that some may be exactly that.

I come in peace, hehehe.. Legends, fictional and sci-fi things always interests me. I think for centuries UFOs has been a rumor in every part of the world and in every generation. I don't know if anyone has seen UFOs for real, I don't know if they are true, but I'd like to be one of those who can prove it someday hehe. Yeah, I think it would be a great dream for me hehe. Ciao!

Many years ago whilst still living in the U.K. I had a friend who was a pilot. BOAC who made the run from Heathrow to JFK airports. The year was 1969 and this was just before I left to live in JA. He related the story that he saw UFO's about an hour away from JFK airpirt. So did everyone else on the oplane who were snapping away taking photographs like mad. He radioed in the info and fighter jets were sent out when he got closer to the States. Meantime the ufo's had one large saucer and lots of smaller ones and yes, it was in the daylight. When the planes came out to check - I think that the planes could be seen on he radar then the smaller saucers went into the large saucer and it just took off. The crew and passengers were escorted off the plane into a room and all cameras were seized by, I believe he said, some kind of military unit. Not sure of this. The crew and passengers were advised not to speak of this and all film weas removed from their cameras. They were told that it would cause a panic world wide. In JA a pilot that I know saw two saucers at dawn as he was leaving an airport. He did have another pilot with him but they did not have a camera. They did not tell people as they were oin the army and knew that they would be ridiculed for he rest of their careers. So yes, I do believe in UFO's. Likewise I also believe that many so called sightings do have a scientific answer. Not everything seen is a UFO. Excellent post

Wow! And this is most certainly not the first instance of its kind I can tell you! World War II pilots often saw mysterious flying craft around them while in the air during battle and they even had a name for them "Foo Fighters". The very fact that there are continuous cover-ups of things like this and gag orders placed on people only strengthens my belief that MUCH more is known by governments and the military than we'll ever know personally. Why else would they be so eager to discount everything? I agree that in many cases there are tangible answers too. Because of the hype and the stereotypical mindset people have about aliens and the like, people can often get overzealous; but there's most definitely real scenarios as well. I hope that in my own lifetime at least, the truth about things like this will be revealed because I've always been fascinated by this subject and used to read up extensively on it.

There are cave men drawings in a an underground cave in France and beside the usual, 'man with spear versus animal stick drawings,' there are several drawings of 'people' in space suits. A bubble headgear. Primitive man only drew what he saw. I have seen photographs of these drawings. Again. In several of Leonardo da Vinci's drawings there are UFO's and 'spacemen'. There is so much that is unexplained, and I, too, have always been fascinated by this topic. I totally believe that worlkd governments have hid so much information from us for 'our own good'.

Well, of course 'UFO' stands for Unidentified Flying Object, so it could really be anything from a real alien visitation to a bird or a plane or even some piece of trash that someone threw at you! I suppose that the pictures a while back of strange lights in the sky over Birmingham with many eye-witness accounts were partly responsible for the result of the poll (55% for and 45% against) but there seems to be a large number of people who want to believe in them - even if they have never seen them and think most of the pictures and stories are phoney.

Do I believe in UFOs? Sure, why not? After all, they're UNIDENTIFIED flying objects... they could be anything. They don't necessarily have to be from another planet. They could be jinns or faeries, for all that. Or swamp gas. Once they're identified, that's another story.

I don't believe in them. Therefore, they don't exist.

My mind isn't made up on this. I cannot see any reason why there shouldn't be UFOs visiting us from other planets and have read many an account of people believing they have seen Unidentified Flying Objects including the case you mention. Interesting more recently, as in just a couple of months back, there were more similar sightings in various areas of the UK all on the same night. But because I have not had first hand experience of such sightings I can only make my decision on what is reported in the press. As most press accounts are usually quite sceptical it is hard to say yes I believe or no I don't just on these reports. So I am very open minded and often look at the skys in the hope of seeing a UFO.

I believe in UFOs. Look up the blackbird. It was made over 50 years ago and still is the fastest high flying jet today.

Let me put it a bit differently. I do not believe in UFOs but I would like to do that. I have seen a few series on Discovery Channel who talk to people who claim to be eyewitnesses to UFO incidents but I will not believe until I see one myself.I have not seen one but the only thought of existence of life on some other planet sets my adrenalin pumping.

I saw once an UFO. It´s not a matter of faith: I saw it with my own eyes and I was with other people. Noone could say what it was. That does not mean it had little green men from Mars inside with their pointed ears and maybe obly one eye in the middle of the face. I don´t know what they are. As I don´t know what God is. There are a lot of things that we are not capable of ecplaining. Life itself id the most incredible miracle. Take care

This is a tricky one, because let's face it, if there were other life forms 'out there,' along with UFOs to get them 'down here,' wouldn't we have had some sort of evidence of it by now? Or is there evidence, and it's been suppressed in the national interest? When I look up at the night sky, it seems that I can't just be looking at a vast expanse of nothingness, but I find it hard to grasp the concept of alien life forces. However, just because I can't get my head around it doesn't mean they don't exist. I have an open mind on this one, but I'm open to persuasion.

I would say that its not only human beings that can be the most scientific in thsir approach. As God has created this world he would have surely created other creatures more better than us.So bottomline is that I do believe in UFO's.Have a good day

I believe in UFO though i haven't ever seen it. But one of my roommates happened to see it when she was in middle school. She said she was riding a bike at night, and then she noticed a flying saucer on the sky following behind her all the way home. She was scared and ran to home quickly.I hope i can see one, too.

Well..if you think of UFO's as Unidentified flying objects..and not simply associated with alien creatures..then yes.. I believe in then..I think perhaps .. what people think are UFOS from other planets ..are spy gadgets sent out from our planet..

UFO means unidentified flying object. It does not mean little green men or grey. Yes I have seen a UFO and I have never come across an explanation for what I saw. Until I do it will remain unidentified.

Hello Owl...I've heard many reports of sitings such as you mentioned...and the explanations that usually "officially" accompany them. I rule nothing out, really, but have not personally seen a UFO or anything close to an alien. I just keep an open mind. :) Karen

There still isn't enough authentic proof about the actual existence of alien UFOs visiting our planet. Such reports of alien sightings have become far too common to evoke much widespread general interest anymore. But yes, I tend to believe that we are not the only living planet in so large an Universe. When we know that even the number of stars in this universe cannot be counted, we cannot for sure say that there is no life outside Earth. Logic says that there should be. But yes, whether they are indeed an advanced civilization and whether they do have the technological ability to come and visit earth on holiday trips is definitely a topic of a good debate.
