A dog who bites

I am a dog lover. I have two house dogs who I love very much. With everything in the news about dogs that bite I figured I wuld share this with my friends from mylot. My niece has got a beagle hound dog that weighs around 45lbs. She had her 4 month old baby in a carrier and the dog went over and bit her baby. The baby had to have 5 stitches. She has tried to get rid of the dog and noone wants a dog who bites. Once they start biting they will bite again. Now she is ordered to keep a muzzle on the dog while in the house. First of all in my opinion if that was my child I probably would have choked the dog. But I would have that day took it to the Humane society or pound. That dog would not get another chance at my child. Please give your opinion and views on this issue.

I agree that the animal should be taken to a pound if no one will take it in, but the down fall to that is that because it already has a history of biting, and biting children for that matter, it would most likely be put down for being unadoptable. I'm not sure how I would handle the issue personally because although the safety of my child would come first, I also don't agree with kill shelters. She could probably try to locate a non profit animal organization (they have one in Morehead called S.T.A.R) that would take the dog in and if it wasn't able to be adopted they could locate a rescue that would take the dog in for it's entire life without the risk of being put through the gas chamber like the local pound does.

I just think she needs t do something with the dog. It is not right to have a muzzle on it all day either. How do they drink or eat with those things on? She lives in VA so you would think there would be a rescue shelter like the one in Cynthiana (I believe that's it) that is trying to take that dog Dakota that mauled that baby in Winchester. They think they may be able to bring that baby home in about a week.

Virginia should have lots of animal organizations that could help with that situation, she's just got to call and ask though. The dog definitely doesn't need to be in the home around the baby at this point though.

Did she end up taking the dog to the pound? Sometimes dogs bite if they are jealous and they were there before the baby was. I don't blame anyone for their fear of the animal hurting their baby again. My dog likes to jump on people and he's a big dog, in particular the kids so they fear him. He's really a nice dog just hyper for attention.
