I just committed a serious myLot sin. What was that you ask? I just happened to type a real person's name into my discussion(forgetting that it was a no-no), and I was confronted with the dreaded red-letter upbraid warning me that I must not use such a word. Now, I don't know who made up these rules, but it seems to me that when a word is used in a name and also capitalized there shouldn't be any confusion as to how it is meant. Add to that the fact that we're all supposedly adults here and I just don't get it. Anyway, I made a huge mess when I went back to try and remedy the situation, but I guess anyone responding to the post knew to whom I was referring. This hasn't happened to me in a long time and I'm wondering if it has happened to you lately. Have you innocently typed in a word that is common only to have gotten a warning about it?

Shocking is the word I would use, gabs.I'm all set to tag my discussion when all of a sudden I discover that I've committed a myLot crime.

I get the message all the time. I don't really think about the word being a "no no" when I am writing responses. They are just words we use in every day conversations, but for whatever reason, they system finds them to be offensive, or something.

Did you get a warning immediately after you typed it or did myLot contact you? Only once did I make a typo. Accidently misspelled something in a discussion once and the word typed had an extra "s." Same definition as a donkey! Before the discussion went, I got a warning but that was the extent of the problem. I corrected it right on the spot.

The few times that it's happened to me, carolbee, it was immediately brought to my attention so that I could correct the error before adding tags.

Seriously youre not allowed to type names?! Oops inever knew that! I should really read what you cant do... I will probably end up getting my account shut down!! I can understand why they have that rule though, luckily i havent used any names yet. What about if it is your pets name? Because im sure ive used that before and ive seen other people using them! This hasnt happened to me yet, having a warning i mean, I hope it never does! How many warnings do you get before they shut the account down?

You can rest easy, Jo, because it's only the one particular name that I can think of that is not allowed. So, feel free to use all of the other names you want.

I have never done it, yet. I've only been here two days, so it would be horrible if I broke a rule. D:

My error usually has to do with the shortened name for raccoon. For instance the place where Grandpa Bob lives in Minnesota is CCoon Rapids. I have also spoken of hunting those furry masked animals. It also works to leave a space like this D ick Cheney. We are adults, but the policing agent is probably a computer, who then cannot put any reasoning into its warnings.

I have not had it happen many times, GG, but it's still a shock when it does. Which reminds me that I was reading a post a few days ago that was in serious danger of crossing the line by the use of a word repeatedly, but they didn't seem to have a problem with that one.

I did the same excat thing on your post as a matter of fact about American Bandstand. When I typed in Oick Clark the right way. That is really crazy to me I mean that is the man's name. I laughed to myself when I did that and thought wow I said a bad word without meaning too.

I have done that here at Mylot a few times also. I do not see what the big deal is about it either when it comes to some of the words that are not allowed here. I understand some of them but not all. It has not happened to me lately though.

NO, I haven't done this yet. However, I am sure that at sometime I have done something to cause my discussion to get deleted. There are many rules here that I am not sure as to why they are there, but I guess we have no choice but to follow them if we want to stay here.

Obviously you are right about that, carolscash, and I suppose there might also be discussions I posted which might have been deleted.

Has to do with case sensitive and all that. The computer system is only as good as the person who set it up. And that can be scarey. I have started to write some ones name and caught myself. I have gotten that red-letter upbraid several times and to figure someway to relay what I was trying to say without committing a mylot foopah. Like for instance, my recent Koon cat had to be revamped.

Well it certainly will inspire us to be more creative, celticeagle! Anyone with an interest in words should be able to come up with a way to get around them.

I got the warning once too, and not sure what word I used that they said violated the TOS. Anyway, I just redid the post and everything was okay then. I am glad that I got it though, as I don't really want to do anything that violates the rules. Of all the posts I have done in here, that was the only one I recieved, so I guess I have been doing fine. It is hard to know what we an pot and what we can't, but at least mylot is here to let us know, and I think that is a good thing. I love mylot and I am here to stay. Good luck to you and happy mylotting.
