Are you good at writing English?

Is English your first language? Would you like to write better English? How much would you willing to pay for tutoring? It would be at your convenience because it would be done through email. It would be a very low cost and you could pay as you go. Would you pay $1.00 a week? How about a $1.00 a month for basic English tutoring? This is a survey to see how many people at mylot are interested in improving their English skills and what it would be worth to them. I hope this doesn't violate any mylot guidelines!

I grew up in the Philippines so English is not my first language... but we speak English a lot at home.by the way my mom's an American so I'm sort of a mish-mash... English is not a problem for me really, in fact I worked as an English instructor for many years in the past and handled different english subject categories(basic, business correspondence, speech & communication...) would love to do tutorials too for anybody who might be intersted......=) the price? uhm, we can discuss that!

I wonder if there is way to do online tutoring from your home? It might be a fun way to earn some extra cash and also help others!

Do you have a website, blog or any other type of online portfolio of your skills?

actually, there are some sites that allows you to do tutoring from home... you do it online I guess... most of those who wanted English lessons are Japanese and Korean. I came across a few sites before but I didn't commit to it before coz I didn't have the time. But if you can searchh for it, maybe you can find some. In Craigslist maybe..

Hello puddytat, I have just retired from teaching English as a second language in Thailand. I taught all the skills, plus Business English. Now I am retired, I miss my work, and would love to tutor anyone interested in improving their English. I admire myLotters who try and post here, even if their English is poor, it will improve if they contine to read and write on sites like this. Incidently, yours is very good.

All the students had to undergo an entracne test to determine their laevl of English. You can't start them off at the same level, or the higher students will get bored, so it's importent they are in a class with students at the same level. Actually most of the Language schools don't teach real beginners, as the Thai schools have taught them basic grammar, and their ABC.

Thank you for the compliment! I'm starting to think maybe there's an interest for this type of learning here at myLot. Do you have any helpful tips about how to start a tutorial? Do you first see what your students already know or just start from the basics from day one? Thanks for your response!

I am good at English, because I am an American. I think it's nice of you to offer to help other Mylotters learn English at such a cheap price. Do you speak any other languages? I may ask for your help in learning that, as I don't like being monolingual at all.

My English is great because I paid attention at school! I also read a lot! But you should find a whole lot of people here who were slackers in school the way they butcher the English language here is really sad! Good luck I have a feeling you'll need it! tdemex

I guess you're not violating mylot guidelines. You're doing fine. Here in mylot we get people's opinions on opening a discussion much likely similar in conducting surveys. English is not my first language, My country is also in the Philippines in accordance to the person who responded you before me. I would like to write and speak better English if given a chance. I'm not so sure with my syntax in writing English. My understanding and learning is not yet very clear to me. $1.00 a month is so cheap, I don't think the tutor will send many email lessons a month if I only pay that less. $20.00 a month is justifiable, that's 1 email everyday. It's good to learn new learning everyday. If possible I don't prefer in emails, it would be better a live chat, much better with live mic. In order to establish a communication between the tutor and the tutee and better learning.

Now, that's interesting! I have considered even making dvd series to aid in the tutorials. Do you have any more suggestions as to where you prefer the live chat to take place? It would be nice if we could do that here at mylot. It could be like a classroom setting. We could even use a whiteboard as a chalkboard. The use of a microphone is brilliant! It makes sense. I don't know why I didn't think of it. I, now hereby pronounce myself onto a journey to get this project started. You think there would be a market for this at $20 a month? One email a day would be easy. It could include tips and exceptions to the English language. Hey, this could be fun! Thanks!

What would be the first thing you would want to learn? Would it be basic spelling or would you like to learn more about the grammatical aspect of the English language? Any suggestions how we could get involved in such a task here at mylot?
