I have been visiting few freelancing websites for software development.. But, I wonder how ppl get the jobs intially.. How could we prove the clients that we are capable of doing the work properly and in defined time ?

Are you a developer?. Actually freelancing is the better and secure site for both Buyer and provider. You may have experience in some domain. You can bid a project in this site depends upon your domain. Then you may contact thru freelance.

I know this, but any website you check, the work is given to experienced team/member of that website. As a new member how to get projects ?

I am not sure about this. If you are a new user then you may get a project from there, when you make your profile and portfolio is better than others.

You'll most probably need to start off with the smaller and simpler jobs, offering your services at dirt cheap rates in order to be awarded the job. You should also add to your profile your website with examples of your work eg. small utilities/applications that you're willing to make freely available either as full or crippled demo-ware... ^_^
