after you have a baby --can you get your body back??

A call to mothers out there... I have 2 kids, and I started my family later... I am in my 30s and I have always been a smaller figure woman...not that I am big by any means... but after I had my second child I have noticed that things are proportioned differently!! I work out 3 times a week and I do really watch what I eat... but I know, I know, I need to work out more and I am so disappointed with my time lately that I cant fit it in.... I am trying to set my alarm to get up earlier but I have been very bad about hitting the snooze and not getting up. I just saw this weekend they have a new workout video by Shawn T.... Insanity!! and it is a 60 day program and you need nothing but time and your own body --no weights or anything and you can get ripped in 60 days-- I think it is possible but I cant afford the 120.00 plus shipping that the dvds are. I have workout videos that I do now, but they are a couple years old...and some times they dont seem fun anymore... just the repitition of it. so my question is.... after you have a baby can you get your body back??

Hi bookreadermom, I have two kids too, I got married at 30, and had my first child at 32. With my first born I was so conscious about the weight that I gained during pregnancy, and just two weeks after i gave birth, I went into exercising and dieting and I in 2 months, I got my old size back. It took a lot of discipline, but I was pleased with myself. When my second child came three years later, I was never as determined. I started putting off my aerobics and came out with all available alibis not to do it. Now I've gained 25lbs over my old 120 lbs, and I'm not happy with how I look. I still have plans of working out, maybe going to the gym for a more serious weight loss program, but I keep on wondering when I'm really going to do it. I'm still using the alibi that I'm such a busy mom, but as the old saying goes, if there's a will, there's a way. I have yet to internalize this adage.

It is very possible...We just need the strict discipline. I gave birth 3 months ago to my second child. Fortunately, the only thing that got a little big were my arms. I'm still struggling with the loose skin and compared to you, I'm not really into exercise regimens. I'm very, very bad with that..I can't stick to an exercise regimen because I always have so many excuses. But what I can't do in any exercise programs, I do by walking. I accompany my young son to his school everyday. And I try to shed off the extras by walking. I know it's not much, but I do try to do something about the extra skin. My sister and I gave birth this year. But she was 8 months earlier ahead of me. And she has more problems with shedding off the excess weight. I told her to put more activities in her daily routine even if she's 24-hours inside the house. A sedentary lifestyle will be her biggest enemy.

I have 3 children and am EXTREMELY fortunate to actually be lighter in weight now after my 3rd child then I was before I got pregnant with the first one!! I maintained myself well during pregnancy and gained around 23 with each pregnancy. I think a lot of what your figure does and where the weight comes or goes depends highly on genetics too. Of course you can get your body back!! Some metabolisms require more work to shed weight, but you are off to a fantastic start with working out!

I never got pregnant and don't have any babies yet. I always worry about if I could get back to a good shape like now when I get pregnancy in the future... will I get fat? Will I get big and loose belly? Will I keep getting more and more weights? When I am on the beach, I saw some women that have couple kids, mostly have the streched marks you can see easily, very easy to tell they have had babies. I know exercising could help but is it a guaranteed that we can get back to shape?

well I have to say that the response here has been on the positive side...you have to want it though in order to get back into shape...I am at that point now... I was bad over the winter and didnt stick to my diet as much and now I am paying for it.....but for most women we do have to put in the effort and excercise to get back in shape...and that is my goal now. I did get back into shape after my first child --it took me a while but I wasnt as determined, I am now and I know I can do it.... I just have to stay focused and get up in the mornings to get in my workouts!! LOL thanks for the response and happy mylotting.

I understand where you are coming from. I got my body back after my first child, but I'm still looking for it after my second one. I know it's in there somewhere under the extra pounds, and I hope I find it soon - lol!

I was going through discussions I have responded to, and I found this one. You said that you were hoping to be in better shape by your birthday, which is in September. Since it is the beginning of September, I was wondering how you were doing with your goal. I hope that you are satisfied with your progress, and I hope that you have a wonderful birthday!

i don't think so.when i was still in my college days i only have a waistline of 25.now it's 32.my body didn't go back to its original size. i feel like i became bigger now after giving birth to my first son. i really had some efforts of getting my previous waistline but since im with people who eats a lot i don't think my mere thoughts can suffice that. problems can't also brag me not to eat. i just can't resist foods now especially when they're my fave ones.

Sure, I think it is possible. I'm a mother of 2 myself and I was able to get my body back pretty quick each time. However, now that I'm in my 30's my body doesn't seem to be quite as forgiving, so I've been working out (lifting weights) to make up for it. LOL

I never got pregnant but I know someone who did get her body back after giving birth (she gained 25kl, but lost it all a few months after). Also, my mother is actually in better shape after giving birth to me and my sister than before she got pregnant. I think you're doing enough, working out 3 times a week and watching what you eat. You'll bound to reach your goal someday. Good luck!

this has always been my problem from the start, before i had my kids, i was slim, very slim no matter how much i eat i was slim, like i have a waist of 24! and my arms are not flabby, my legs are not flabby as well..and i do not have any excess in my waist.. lol i love it back then, no matter how much i ate ice cream i do not get fat! but then it all changed when i had my first baby.. i was like a pig!! my husband used to warn me to control it but i can't it was part of my pregnancy where i want to eat almost anything! i even started eating veggies when in fact i do not before. and well that's how i started to gain so much weight from a 45 kilos i went to 72 kilos when i was carrying my baby!!! it was crazy and after giving birth i tried sooooo hard to trim down, i exercised, i ate less..but it was no use, i would end up having the feeling of fainting when i eat less..or i easily get tired, maybe i was doing the wrong thing. but then i finally accepted maybe this is how it is. i am not that right now, i gained some but some says i look better now than i was the skinny one..but i still want my body back hehehe but it is hard, but i am still so very much trying.

I understand and good luck to us both... I am getting more determined every day to get back to my body that was before and I know that with hard work, excercise and the right foods I will...I just have to stay focused...and move my alarm clock.. We can do it....you just have to remember that and we will get there!! thanks for the response and have a great day!

You will get your body back. Though it requires a lot of effort, patience and hardwork. You just have to believe in your self, believe that you can do it. When I had my first baby, I was also fat, and in just 5 months I was lighter, I just didn't eat much, exercised 30 minutes a day.

You can absolutely get your body back , you have have to remember to start eating for one instead of for two like you used to, and don't forget walking is your friend.

Hi there.. Of course you can get your body back..as long you be patient and doing more physical exercises. I think your work out must be added by walking, cause walking is easy but more effects to make your body shape..that was my experience.. Everytime i go to work..i'm walking more than using public transportation. And it works..my body back to normal.. Have a nice try...I am sure you can do that..

I had only one baby and one on the way cause I am 7months pregnant. After I gave birth the next day I am already back to my old size... I guess its within the genes. THough I hated the flapping skin left on my tummy, I am scared now with my second cause from 24 waistline, now it 36 and its getting bigger. But is always onlu my tummy that gets bigger other than that no, it is still the same.. specially my flat fronts.

hi dear mom, i am also a mother of one year and five month oldie. she is very naughty and dont sleep in night. it is all on her mood when she wanna sleep. i have tried all patterns and all things what everybody told, be it elders or doctor or friends or relatives or nanys or my parents on both sides. i have each and every thing but my baby ufff!!!, i cant sleep. now it is fivr in the morning. she slept at eleven thirty and woke up at two fifteen and now she is playing. now she will sleep in the morning and then i cant sleep. i was having a beautiful figure nad i was very proud of it. i use to go to gym regularly as i was very concious on any extra inches anywhere. but after pregnaNcy my weight zoomed like anything i gained more than forty pounds. then when my daughter was of six months i joined back my gym and i lost some weight , no doubt but till now i am not able to get back into shape. i am started fitting into my old pants and jeans but my little stomache , which is still very loose and hang , i mean my belly, that is so boring and irritating, it is really very difficult to loose and gain back what you have and what you was earlier.

It is possible but does take alot of discipline. I too have a weakness for that snooze button. ITs like why do they put it there. Just let the thing beep untill i get up. I also have a weakness for sweets. I try to go to the gym, workout dvd's, and shows. Its real hard to find the time and to snick to it. I just want you to know you are not alone with struggling with baby body. LOL! GOOD luck.

I know, what is the purpose of the snooze button!!!!! I can get in my workout done about 3 times a week, that they use to say was good but now with all the new "reports" and "research" now they say we need to about 45 minutes a day and more often....ugh!! I am a mother of 2....where would they like me to find that time!! I am glad to know I am not alone with that darn snooze button....LOL, good luck to you too in trying to get back in shape too!!! thanks for the response and have a great day!

I think it works for some and for others it doesn't. I was lucky that after my first I lost alot weight real quick. Also after my second I went back with no problem. Please don't hate me I just think it all about luck. I think instead of spending so much money on dvds why don't you just put the music on and dance or exercise. I would start out with yoga, then do some situps, leg lifts, weights for the arms. Finish off with dancing. I think if you did this for 30 minutes aday 3 or 4 times a week depending on your schedule you will find yourself losing weight. Just think positive and know you can get your body back to the way it was before the baby and you will do it. Good luck to you.

I know exactly where you're coming from. I have to workout everyday. It's tough to be motivated when you are a mother. Little tricks I do on days I can't workout is squats in the shower, sit ups and push ups during commercials, leg raises in bed, etc. It sounds silly, but it really works if you do it regularly. It cannot substitute for a workout, but it does add to the results. Don't forget interval training, weight training, and routine changes in your regular routine. This is important to continue burning fat. The biggest thing is thinking you can do it. sounds cheezy or cliche, but it's true. If you feel you can't, you won't try as hard. Best of luck!

I dont think those are silly at all... in fact I think they might help me out!! thanks for the tips...I will start to put in little extras here and there... I did take my daughter for a walk in her stroller today so that was just a little extra for today but it is very hot out here today and I was sweating, but I will think of that a good thing... LOL thanks for the response and have a great day!! happy mylotting!!

My daughter is 7 months old now and i lost the majority of my baby weight within the first 3 months but i still have a few stubborn lbs to get rid of and they just wont shift. Ive been exercising and eating right and im slowly getting there. I dont think you can ever get your body just the way it was before you had children but you can get pretty damn close. Good luck!!
