As I sit here tonight my granddaughter, who has type 1 diabetes, is in the hospital...again. Her sugar was 930 when my stepdaughter took her in...jumping from the 200's to the 400's and then up to 930 in less than 2 hours regardless of what they did. I pray every night for a cure for this disease. Stem cell research provides hope and I'm a strong supporter of that research.

How old is she now spalli? 930 is a hell of a spike. I know younger teens often have a great deal of trouble with it because of constant hormone changes and body development.

Having grandchildren I know how it hurts when somethng happens to one of them. I pray that your daughter is soon well. Let's all hope that things turn positive towards stem cell research and those that are blocking the progress will finally see that they are wrong doing so. My oldest son has to battle diabetes constantly and it took the life of my sister when she was just 50 years of age.

Thank you iris. My granddaughter spoke before a senate sub-committee on stem cell research a few years ago when she was 15 and she had many folks in tears. Her disease consumes every minute of every day of her life, with arthritis added to the mix, making her day to day activities even harder.

I have known for a long time nancy Reagan was a staunch supporter for stem cell research. Obvious reasons of course, but a supporter non the less. I do agrea this is an area of science that needs to be explored. As long as we can avoid a situation where we are harvesting embryos for it. There are alternatives being developed and other existing methods such as cord blood. I have a duaghter with type 1 diabetes and this is something that can possibly be a cure for her, not a treatment, but a cure.

She has delt with it since she was 10, she is now 18 and managing it herself, repsonsable for her own dr.'s apointments, med refills, etc. I still guide her and suggest things and help all I can, but she pretty much has things under controll on her own now and is extremly vigilant. She is a pretty repsonable youg lady and takes it pretty seriously, so hopefully she can avoid the horriffic complications often associated with it.

It would be a wonderful thing if research led to cures for these debilitating diseases. I've made a friend at the cancer treatment center who has undergone stem cell treatment. We are waiting to see how it comes out.

I have known this for a while. She has been in favor of stem cell research due to President Reagen having Alzheimer. He was a great man. It must have been tough for her to watch him slowly diappear like that mentally. There is a lot of research that could be done using stem cell research that could help in the fight against Alzheimers and other diseases.
