Mozilla/ Java problems....

Ever since I updated my mozilla 5.2 and Java my screen constantly goes gray or black... I have restored my computer 3 times already and still nothing... I hate when programs update themselves we fall for the upgrade and then this happens... anyone else have the same problem and if so how did you fix the problem (without having to buy a whole new computer)....
