Driving gives me an adrenaline rush. What about you?

I have been crazy about driving from a long time. I simply love the feel of maneuvering a car and taking off. It gives me a heady feel. Sometimes I feel I drive a car like a two-wheeler. I wonder: Do you emote with your car? Do you feel its emotions? (I can hear my car crying when someone scratches it etc.) Do you drive just for pleasure?

'Taking off' is absolutely right! I had never known what the big deal was until I started driving....a few years ago. Infact, reading your question instantly reminded me of that first time I actually 'drove'. I was sitting in the driver's seat (uh..obviously!) and it was my first driving class. There I was, heart hammering so loud, hands gripping the steering wheel so tight; we (the driving instructor & I) had gone around inside the driving school, on some mock roads, looking at road signs, changing signals etc - very 'boring' stuff. All of a sudden, we had one of the most life-changing conversations of my life. (PLease note - 'DI' = Driving Instructor; 'ME' = me) DI: Alright, it's time to drive. Turn left. ME: Uh, Left? DI: That's what I said. ME: But that's the main road. DI: (gave me a look that spoke real loud) So I literally turned the wheel and went left, got out onto the main road and sure enough, we were moving. I mean, I could see trees and buildings going past - or - were we going past trees and buildings? Anyway, there was movement - and it was because I was 'driving'. Oh! The excitement of that moment! The feeling of literally flying! The indescribable joy! After 'flying' for a while...about ten minutes of glory, the instructor asked if I wouldn't mind increasing the speed..just a little - maybe 25 km/hr.... I have had many euphoric drivings moments after that (maybe I'll share that later on) but that first day was literally a 'heady feeling.' Thank you, tutor19us, for reminding me of that day.

Wow! Jag2009. That was a good one. As I read your piece I recalled my driving test! heehee. I can understand the euphoria you would have felt. It surely is a great feeling to be behind the wheels and just zip. There are moments too when I feel so tired to drive. But as soon as I get behind the wheel the energy of the car just takes over. Jag2009, please do share more. :)

Glad you can relate:) In fact, I have recently moved to another country and driving is something i miss very badly! Some of my best "high" moments have occured behind the wheels! When you have the music blaring and the ac on high/windows open (depends on the time of the year), you can be anyone you want to be in those few moments; it's your own world and your rules rule! When I started to drive, I lived on an island..so it was great to drive along those endless beaches. In fact, next to riding a horse on the beach (my 2nd favorite beach activity), my next best option is driving along the beach. Where I used to live, the road used to stretch right into the sea. The first time I drove in like that, kind of into the mouth of the sea, it was such an exhilarating feeling...made me wonder what would happen if I pressed the accelerator - would my car & I swim? Who knows! Would the dolphins I could see in the distance swim alongside me & my car? Would I be swept along like a "bottle in the sea" and land up on an unknown, mysterious shore? Would a handsome, dashing pirate come sailing along and take me & my car far away to his ...well..wherever handsome, dashing pirates live... What I mean is - the feeling of freedom and space..was incredible! Hmm...Sigh!

My hus is the right person to repond to the discussion. I feel it is all bakwas (crap), he becomes very sentimental when something happens to the car.He even parks the care to the side of the road and keeps watching it hours together forgetting thet I, his wife is waiting in the car for so long. If I question anything at that time, I am gone...Uff it is too much of drama. The vehicle is exposed so it will have scratches...he spends a lot of time with his car, cleaning, wiping, pampering too...I must say...the car has been the cause for many conflicts between us. Car lovers behave like psycho most of the time.

Psychos. Yes right word radx. :) See a lover waiting eagerly for his/her lover to appear the eagerness; they project a near psychotic behaviour. Any feeling that goes beyond mere interest resembles psychosis. A madly passionate interest is visible in your behaviour. A person who is crazy about driving or cars is generally passionate about his/her toy. :) The spouse has to start inculcating the interest else life becomes a tad boring when a husband/wife keeps talking about his/her car and driving and the other spouse gets more bored. In my case, I have married another crazy so we have like loooongish discussions on make, model, engine, chassis etc. We can just go on and on. :)

Yes, my feelings integrates with the car when driving. But in reality, the car is just a means of transportation. You must maintain your car, so useful for you. No more.

Hey killersss, Thanks for your response! Now I was waiting for such a response from another enthusiast like you. :) I can surely understand the feeling, when you say I want to race. People think I am crazy when they say I emote with my car. It is such an unnatural thing to say, they say. After all its just an inanimate object, they say. Well, for me it is not. Am sure it is not for you either. Ain't it? :) Cheers and happy racing
