When I passed by those shops like Memory Lane, Living Cabin, Hallmarks Cards...I was just wondering.. how they managed to survive with the electronic cards waves that hits every shore..people tends to send mms, sms, e-cards etc...faster and cheaper. What's your opinion? Which one do you prefer, when and why? I believe 'who' you are sending the greetings play a part in your decision making, is it true?

I will send e-mails for communicating with people, etc. but for birthdays and for Christmas I do not feel it is appropriate to send an "e-card". I think it is so impersonal to just cut and paste something into a template and then off it goes... It is nice to send something that you took the time to pick out and sat down and wrote something in it for that person. Otherwise, who really knows who sent the message, etc. As far as the cost goes, yes you are right. Hallmark and the other major brands charge WAY too much for their cards, I mean come on - $9.95 for a card?!? So I go to the neighborhood Dollar Tree where I can buy greeting cards 2/$1.00 or I get the cheaper versions of the Hallmark cards at Walmart. Call me old fashioned, but I really do think that that is something that should stay personalized with a "human" touch. Have a great day and happy myLotting!!!

Dear schulzie,First and foremost I would like to said that I am truly honoured to have you sharing your views here! You are the first myLotter that I knew having the star rating of 100/100. How do you achieve it? Fantastic...keep it up! I truly agree with you that: greeting cards is something that should stay personalized with 'human' touch! I actually make my own greeting cards with my 'art & craft tools'. even it is not perfect but the time I put into it and the 'thought' that counts! I like to imagine hos happy the recipient will be when he received the personalised card with special & unique messages! Thanks and hope to hear from you again in my other topic of discussions. Happy myLotting and do keep in touch!

Today, because of technology, a lot has change. It made life convenient. Communication has been very convenient and fast. Although these changes has make the life better, I think traditional ways of communicating to people especially to your love ones are still the best. I still make personalized greeting cards and letters to my family and friends during occasion because I think even though it is not that expensive, the thoughtfulness is still there. ^^

Thanks. I believe that personal touch is better to show that you really love the people around you. I have a box where I keep all the letters and greeting cards I received from my family and friends. It made me happy when I feel like opening it and reading all the stuff, remembering the old times.

It's strange but I really don't get into sending greeting cards anymore. I used to do it all the time years ago but then I just quit. I just don't bother with it anymore. I still get one for Mother's Day for my Mom and Christmas ones for family but that's about it. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS**

what i usually send is greeting cards like hallmark cards. plus every time i go in they have cheap candy can't find that candy any where else but there. and not only that i find that hallmarrk cards mean more to someone then some free card you got from the internet. i know i would be a little upset if someone gave me a birthday card like that. i would only be a little because you know at least they sent something and remembered. but besides that it doesn't mean as much as a real card. a really card you can keep forever.

Dear justbeingtiffany, Yes, me too .. Hallmark cards are premier cards, well known for its special designs, quality papers and its creative messages! I used to collect all the Christmas Cards (Hallmarks cards) and others too when I am younger. It has sentimental value to me and I like their beautiful and creative designs, fantastic cards! I do appreciate greeting messages via e-cards, mms etc, because it is the 'thoughts' that counts..especially people are so busy nowadays, so electronic messages & greetings are the most convenient! Thanks for sharing, I truly hope to hear some views from you on my other previous topics. Thanks and do keep in touch :)

Dear Brienn, So nice of you to share your views here. Thanks a lot, really appreciate it very much! It is such a thoughtful gesture of your father to send beautiful & meaningful greeting cards to you and family! Very thoughtful of him, a very good and caring father! By the way what OFW stand for ??? I normally send sms to my friends during Chinese New Year, and eve of New Year. I do send conventional or self-made greeting cards to my close friends.. Do share your views on my other topics, take care!

There is something special about traditional cards. Just as there is something special about handwritten letters as opposed to emails. They seem to have more of a personal touch and they are tangible (you can see them, pick them up with your own hands) ect.. While e-cards are cheaper and can often be fun, clever or even personalized I still prefer traditional cards myself. If one visits a bookstore in my city just before christmas, mothers day, easter ect.. they will find a crowd of people milling around the card stand. So its safe to say that cards are here to stay. Even better are those beautiful handmade creations that some people make for their friends and family. :-)

Dear tabatha, You and your mum should be a role model for our new generation...who still keeps the tradition of sending letters, greeting cards on occasions and anytime when you thought of them...that is so sweet! You really make all your friends and family happy for knowing that you always care and thinking of them! I also want to be your friend (outside cyberworld) because you treat all your friends very special and nice! So, the next time when I visit New Zealand, hmmm must plan around Christmas to feel the Christmas ambience and got chance to purchase the local make greeting cards too! YES, YES, YES! Thanks for sharing and take care!

I think perhaps my love of traditional cards has been passed down from my mother who still to this day sends cards with lovely messages in them to her friends. Not just on special occassions, but just to let them know that shes thinking of them. I too think its wonderful to give cards as a surprise. We shouldn't have to wait for special occasions to share our feelings. Also I tend to send traditional cards to those I know well and e-cards to everyone else.

Today's time, technology has been a part of everyday's life. It made peoples life more convenient. Communication has been better because you can reach every person you like anytime, anywhere. But I think that its still better to communicate with your family or love ones in the traditional way like making them your personal greeting cards or letters or personalized gifts because even though its not that expensive, the thoughtfulness is still there which is more important.

to be very frank i have not bought a greeting card for about 10 years now. the people whom i would send cards use internet. we keep in touch through phone and internet so when it comes to sending cards then we have started sending e-cards. but when it is about gifts then we don't replace them with e-cards.

Dear abanerji, Yes, nowadays conventional cards are beginning to phase out due to the convenience, faster and cheaper version of electronic greetings like e-cards, sms, mms etc. But there are some who still prefer the conventional greeting cards due to its personalised touch and can be kept as collection of memories! Totally agreed with you about gifts can never be replaced with e-cards! Thanks for sharing and hope you will drop by at my latest topic on : Greetings in your national language or dialects. Tks!

Ya, this is one of the questions arise in my mind whenever i see the greeting cards in stationeries shop or gift shops. Indeed, i believe there are still people who are still like to send these cards to their loved ones or friends now, although there're much more ways easier available such as using sms and e-cards. Ya, i agree with you that the person who we are sending is one of teh factor affecting which method we'll prefer to send the greetings. For important persons such as very good friends, or couples, it will be good and sweet if we can give them the cards, instead of just the e-cards which are virtual. The feelings and meaning in it would be not the same then.

For birthday, wedding anniversary or valentine's day, I prefer to send out the conventional greeting cards. Because people actually keep these kind of greeting cards, in my personal opinion. For festival like Christmas, Chinese New Year, Hari Raya and Deepavali, people will just throw away the cards. For people who I am not really close with, I will just send the electronic one. So much for sincerity, haha... well, it is the thought that count right?

I actually stop sending greeting cards long time ago. I now prefer to send greeting to my friends via sms or mms. Agree with what you say, sending electronic greetings is much more cheaper than cards. And you forgot to mention an important fact. Reduce of using greeting cards is good to help reduce cutting the tree. Any where sometimes when I see cute and nice greeting cards I will buy some and to be sent to close family members which include my grandmother, she has no handphone or email, , LOL, so must send her a card.

Used recycled paper ... do it ourselves.lol Thanks for sharing and do keep in touch!

I like to send a card in the mail whenever possible. One out of every 10 people (in the USA) works for the postal service, therefore, if the postal service keeps going down hill, it will make the economy even worse. So I say send those cards and letters and lets keep Americans working!!

Dear James, Hahaha...No.. we are living in a fast pace, internet broadband era! Where e-Card , sms, mms are the 'in thing' here in the cyberworld! But, there are something 'unique' that the conventional proper card has that the electronic greetings cannot REPLACED! It is the handwritten personalized message, physically can hold in your hands, and keep in a treasured box to be look into again & again :) Thanks for sharing and hope to hear from you again in my other topics!

I agree with you it depends who you are sending the greetings plays an important factor, because most people won't send an e-card to their mother. But, I prefer an actual card it seems more sympathetic. E-cards are great to send to someone your not that very close to. I think even though e-cards are a huge hit many people still enjoy taking the time to put in some effort for someone very close and dear to them.

Dear tpersaud2, Yes, we still have to send the conventional cards to our friends and relatives who are not internet linked...and it also be more appreciated because we can feel the sincerity, personal touch of the sender! From the responses received from this topic, it can be concluded that 'who, how close is the relationship' is the determining factor on whether it will be a conventional card or the electronic e-cards! Thanks and do share some greetings in your national language / dialects on my latest topic of discussion. Thanking you in advance!

Hi there! I've used e-cards from American Greeting Cards site. I got fond of using the e-cards cause they're nice and yes very cheap cause there are free e-cards. But what I find annoying with e-cards is that, some are not sent to the receiver. I don't know why cause the site would email me telling that the card wasn't sent. I think still the traditional way of sending greeting cards by mail is the best. As long as you have the right address it will be received. Besides, I find it more thoughtful to send an actual greeting card that you can keep. Ciao!

Dear iskayz, Oh, I have not been to American Greeting Cards site, I think I must have a look at it for this coming Christmas greetings, to send some of my '24/7 online friends...' ... E-cards is more convenient, faster and economical...I think if we can personalised the message..it will still have little 'magic touch' there! But no matter how, it can never replace the conventional card...with its top-notch sentimental personalise touch that can really be felt and be kept! Thanks for sharing a wonderful piece of information, hope that you will share your views in my other topics here at myLot! Cheers!

Hello Iriene, greetings cards haven't ever really caught on over here, a few shops are selling the odd ones now probably as foreigners are asking for them but it's rare to see them and they aren't sent at all. I prefer the usual way, for a nameday someone is bombarded by telephone calls wishing one a happy name day, they are much more celebrated than actual birthdays. I think the card industry is just a big sell for the manufacturers and like the way it is here.

Care to share about it..?? During Valentine's Day & Mother's Day in Malaysia..it was quite commercialised, restaurants, hotels and cafes are capitalised on this occasions to make money...the price for set dineer for 2 person (per couple) can shoot like rocket! Therefore greeting cards prices for this 2 occasions is pricey too! Thanks for sharing and happy myLotting! Epharisto!

i used to send lots of hallmark cards before, that was when i was able to afford it.. lol ... . i feel its more thoughtful that way than sending ecard or sms greetings. they are kind of expensive right now, and i still send a few of those cards, depends on how much i got on my pocket at the moment . i love receiving them though. and i dont throw them away, i have a box where i keep all my letters and cards, and sometimes when i feel like it, i read them again

no in older days only i use greeting card to wish my friends, but now world is severaly developed there are so many medias like email, orkut scarps. etc. one of the most important disadvantage of using the greeting is that it is time waste, because it takes so much long time to reach our receipent so we should prepare the greetings some days before his birthday, but if v use email we can suddendly sent to them. so it is used by all of us

Dear handsomerohith, Hi, I can't decipher your unique username... I think is handsomer...., care to share the special meaning of it? I do agree with you on the points of electronic cards, it is much convenient, faster (almost instantly like magic!), economical too! The only setback is, it cannot be felt and kept like the pesonalised cards. Anyway, it's the thoughts that counts...perhaps send the Birthday card via e-mail, then planned with some friends to give the birthday person a surprised gathering, outing, dinner & gifts... When I was studying, we usually send REAL greeting cards as it is easy, just pass it in person. Now, I dont really have the address of all my friends. I do have their virtual address though, so I tend to send virtual greetings. But you know what? If I were to receive any virtual greetings, I dont feel a thing. It's like, so not personalised. But if I received a real card, it will really make my day and put a smile on my face the whole day or week. But having that knowledge doesnt change me. I still did not send out real cards. Now, I think I better call all my friends for their house address!

Dear submerryn, Totally agree with you....the conventional REAL card has the 'personal touch'& the 'sincerity'! What you can do is everyday, hand-made one card with your son, both of you are talented in art & craft, do it as a fun-time activity, yet can use for sending out to friends and relatives! Wow, if you start now, by the time Christmas, already got a lot, may be have some extras..can send to me and other myLotters friends too. All the best and appreciate your response very much!

Though electronic cards have replaced much of paper cards, still most people love to send paper cards.Nowadays people has become so lazy that they think sendinding cards through mail is easier than buying and then sending to post. But cards has its own importance. We can place them as show pieces or we can remember our loved ones by seeing them.

Dear zareenalot, You are absolutely right! This electronic cards can never replace the sentimental value, personal touch, handwritten thoughtful messages of conventional cards that can be felt and can be kept! But e-cards definitely much convenient, faster and economical in sending greetings to those friends who are always online. Like one myLotter mentioned, sending e-cards is good for the environment, no cutting off trees!...she got a point there too! I think the best solution is be CREATIVE, use recycled paper or other incoming mail promotional cards..and hand-made the card with fully personalised touch... Thanks and hope to hear from you again in my other topics! All the best and do keep in touch!
