Hands up who has started Christmas shopping already?

August 4, 2009 10:37am CST
Who else has started their christmas shopping already? I started last month and have been buying bits and bobs as i go along, especially if i see something on sale. I have quite a litte collection already but its all for my daughter. Her birthday is a week before christmas so if i left it until the last minute things would be really tight. I just spend a little each month to spread the cost out. Id say im about 50% done with her stuff so far.

I don't really buy my christmas gifts. I hand make just about everything that I give as gifts. I like giving one of a kind gifts.

Oh yeah and because I have to hand make everything, I slowly make things throughout the year so then I don't have to wait until last minute.

I make just about anything from personalized blankets (working on a yankees blanket for my friend)...to purses, to gloves, a cool jacket, scarves and random accessories. I do sell my stuff if you are interested in anything .

I haven't started any Christmas shopping yet. I've briefly thought about it, but that's it. I usually start in October. I do my buying online in October and November, then pick up things locally after that. That's seemed to work pretty well for me.

I do quite a lot of my christmas shopping online, the shops get way too busy and crowded for my liking, plus you can shop around a lot more and find better deals :)

I have to say that I start Christmas shopping the day after Christmas. Retail stores run sales after Christmas that mark down all this great stuff that will hold at least a year. I find that I buy for the same people every year so buying ahead is easy. I like to get perfume sets for my cousin when they get marked down to at least 75% off. This lets me buy more for less. My cousin gets a great gift from me and I get a great price. I have a tradition with my daughter. We have bought Christmas stockings threw the years and put them all up each year. She has 25 at last count. We fill each one. She gets to pick one stocking a night starting 25 days before Christmas. Since this tration has gotten so big I have to buy early and cheap. I also buy online when companies give special promotion and discounts to help save money. I must say that you have to be careful what you buy. I would not buy candy or food early. I bought fruit baket three days before I was giving it to my Grandmother to find out the fruit was bad. So I would buy most food items as close as you can to the time of the giving. My family gets at least three to four extra presents a year because I buy so earyly. I also have family members who are on a very fixed income. These people get a gift box. That is right I go an buy cleaning products, personaly items, soap, deodorant, and other can goods. This is also a way to save money because you can use coupons and rebates to save money on these items. This year my Neice will be in her first apartment and she will get a gift box to help her get started in her first home. These gifts are practicle but also very needed. Christmas doesn't have to cost you an arm and a leg.

The stocking idea sounds really cool, what kind of things do you put into each one? Id love to do something like that for my daughter when she is a little older.

I used to shop earlier for Christmas but the last few years I have not. I now just wait until about two weeks before Christmas to buy gifts. I have still been lucky and found sales on the items I want to buy. My family and friends all wait to the last minutes so, I guess I pick up the habit from them.

SMILE I have always said that I was going to do this to help with the over spending for christmas. Here it is Aug and I haven't bought the first thing. Maybe I should get started. I have 2 grandsons,2 granddaughters and step grandson and granddaughter. They all have different styles and collections. Thanks for reminding me what I really need to do.

Youd better get started quick since you have all of those grandchildren to buy for. This is the first year i have tried this so i'll see come December if it has helped with my overspending or not :)

Yes, i have already started shopping. And good thing too. My sisters wedding anniversary is coming up this next week, and i do have a gift for them. Otherwise i would not have had a gift this soon. She just told me today. Of course, she does not know that i have been buying christmas gifts either. I have bought several gifts already.

I start Christmas shopping in January...when I can get my paper and ribbons at 90% off and I collect the presents year round. It keeps the budget from going in the dumpster in December, and I can enjoy Christmas and even have a few dollars to spend on something for myself!

I have a large family, so I keep a present box going all year round, for birthdays and Christmas. When I see a bargain that would be appropriate for someone, I buy it. If I know who's going to get it, I wrap it and label it, and keep a note of who is getting what. I always have Christmas wrapping paper and labels on hand, as I buy them in the sales immediately after Christmas. It's the only way I can cope with the expense, and I've been doing it for as long as I can remember.

I have already figured out what I am going to be getting everyone, now I'm just working on finding out the cheapest place to get everything. I will be getting some extra money at the end of the month and that will be what I will be using on buying the stuff.

Honestly, i haven't started yet. Probably when the "ber" months starts. here in the philippines that's the signal that christams is just arround the corner. I would probably get caught up in the cristmas shopping rush but its okay, i guess it's where the fun begins.

I haven't actually bought anything for anyone yet but I have my eye on some things that I know would be great for some people. I just have to find the time to buy the items and find a place to store them before the holiday season arrives. I usually wait until a few weeks before Christmas to actually buy the bulk of items that I give to people but I'm really trying hard to stray from that. Since I have a really nice job right now, I'm hoping I can do some better planning and make it work out better this year.

I'm so there I started in June when I went into the Belk store here in where I live I find 2 High School Musicial Dolls for under $3.00 I was like thank god I brought like 3 of them for my little girl and some Nautica Jeans for my oldest son and I only paid like $4.98 for them. I'm going back this weekend especially alot of stores have 75% off clearance plus its TAX FREE WEEKEND.

Wow thats really cheap, you got some great bargains there! Thats why i like spreading the shopping out over the months as you can pick some great bargains up, nearer to christmas everything in shops seems to get more expensive anyway.

i have totally started christmas shopping already this year. i start early every year so a)i am not in a mad panic at the last minute and b)i can spread out the cost of christmas through the whole year and c)if you see something that would be perfect for someone in july, it prolly won't be still there in december.

I haven't started a thing! Years ago I used to start very early. Now I live in Mexico and my family is in the states. I usually do all my shopping online and have it sent to my family. If I were to send things now they would have them all opened within the next week!

I have always attempted to do this, and at least earmark some of my money for holiday shopping starting at the beginning of the year. But, right now, I have a lot of debt, which takes priority, and getting gifts early rather impossible, even if I would be getting a better deal off season. My newest attempt right now is saving my quarters in a baggie, so that when the time comes, I will be able to do some shopping. If I have an emergency, though, we know where that money is going.
