A way to discourage over-immigration

I heard from a friend that this is the way they stop immigration taking over the country in St. Kitts. They do not let any foreigners have jobs there, unless they can provide a service that is not provided by the citizens of the country (and of course they don't get any government support, either). I realize that St Kitts is only a small island, but I think the US should have the same laws. With the economy the way it is today, hundreds of thousands of Americans are out of work, so all the available jobs should be going to Americans, not foreigners, especially the ones that hate our country anyway and are just here for whatever they can grab.

The problem in the U.S. is that we have illegal immigrants here who work for cash as day laborers and, in many cases, have taken jobs away from American citizens because they work for less money. Our government has taken steps to put a stop to this but it's not possible to stop everyone who is willing to hire an undocumented worker for the day.

I must say I dont blame the illegal immigrants I blame the companies that hire people under the table because they want more money in their pockets. It is the business owners that are killing us in this department. Hire people that are legal and most of the illegals will go home because they have no way of earning money. If they really want to be here then they would find a way to either get a work visa or become a citizen legally

I couldn't agree with you more, gramma, and it makes me very happy every time I hear about another business being busted for this. I also heard a while ago that our economic difficulties have caused some of them to go home because even the day laborers couldn't find work.

I think a huge industry that has to be investigated is Construction companies and Landscaping companies. We as American citizens hiring them should be able to ask for proper paperwork and legal paper work for everyone working on our property. Not just what the owner has. I am hiring them to do my roof then I should have the right to have their legal documents shown to me.

Their are a number of things that i feel that we can do and yes the work is one of them, but the problem their is the people that are hiring them. and another thing that can be done is cutting off their public assistance. I do not have a problem with any one coming to this country, because that is what we were built on. But if they do not come here the proper way, then they have no business being here, and when they are caught they should be sent back to which every country that they came from, and they should not be allowed to come back.

I do not know one illegal that is getting public assistance. Okay maybe medical but not money or food stamps. If they are illegal and getting monetary or stamps that means they have provided paperwork stating they can be here legally. You need birth certs and social security numbers to get all those benefits.

They shouldn't even be getting medical, assistance, as there are so many Americans that need medical help and can't afford it. Giving illegals medical help is using resources that could be used to help Americans.

all fair enough, what do you mean by public assistance? illegal immigrants here (uk) wouldn't be able to get any assistance (except medical).

there in your country because they want to earn more money and make a better life for themselves, or because they are fleeing some kind of oppression. getting angry with them is not the answer, those responsible, as said above, are the businesses that exploit them and reduce the number of jobs available to legitimate workers in the interest of saving money.
