Well, WAMP works only on windows while XAMPP works on Windows, Linux(where it's called LAMP) and on Mac. WAMP gives you the option to change php and apache versions easily to match your development server(if any), but XAMPP has a lot more features like FTP, mercury mail and also has support for Perl(as an add-on). I tried WAMPP but it's very hard to switch between apache and php versions because you have to manually move all your configurations, I've also had a lot of problems and long latency time while switching versions and changing the menu. But what gives XAMPP the lead(for me at least) is it's killer feature of portability called "XAMPP Lite" and that's why I use it.

Both full and lite version is portable. I think the only difference between them is the number of tools that comes with.

You can use ob_start() for buffering all of the contents before headers are sent.

I am php programmer and I am not a fan of WAMP. I am always going to use XAMPP. I have been using XAMPP from last 3.5+ years and seems to work fine for all my application and is very much easy to configure and operate. we have developed variety of project on XAMPP like dolphin (social networking),smarty (template engine), blogging (wordpress), e-commerce (magento) etc.

I use Xampp for development. It has Windows, Linux, Mac, and also lite version for download. The Control Panel is useful and convenient. There are so many different tools bunch with the full version so that you don't have to download them separately. I am in love with it. Happy myLotting:)
