How did you feel a week before you first went to college?

I am to become a freshman at the University of Illinois in about a week and a half. needless to say, I am completely nerve-racked. I find my self depressed often thinking about all that I am leaving behind, my girlfriend, my family, my friends, the security of my own home, and a place I know and am comfortable with. I know this is my whole future ahead of me, and it is all a bit overwhelming. What were your concerns first entering college? were you worried, scared, excited? Was it everything you expected it to be?

First of all, congratulations to you on entering college. For most students in China, you are a lucky guy. The college entrance exams (gaokao) are very difficult here and owing to the large population of China, everybody has to work really hard, which is beyond your imagination, in order to enter a college they dream of. And of course to get a further education in America would be more tough. Here we feel very oppressed about those exams.

I though everything will be fresh and interesting, and all the students there must be very excellent. I prepared everything new and went there a day before school opens. Now I graduated for three years but I still love to recall the nice time in university.

When I was going to college, I just couldn't wait to leave at that time. I really wanted to see what my university looked like. I bought everything I needed and packed them in my bag and counted the days. After I went to the place, everything there was new to me, friends, courses, living places, stadium.... Now I have been studied in university for 2 years, I can't wait to graduate and find a good job. University life is wonderful, but the world out of university is much more attractive.

I know how you feel. Not quiet yet though because I have a whole month before I start my first year at college but I'm freaking out already. I was excited before highschool ended but not I'm just plain scared. I think once we move in, everything would be alright. Good luck moving in and adapting to the university life.

I was actually looking forward to leaving. I love my mother dearly but my life at home was pretty much over. Once I left high school, that was it for me. I was nervous about starting in a new place and with new people but I was also excited. As soon as I got there I was so comfortable and it felt like home to me. I made friends right away and I did well in my classes. I hope you have the same experience. Surely everything will work out fine for you.

I leave in less than two weeks, and I am also tweaking out a bit about it. I have mixed feelings. I'm ready for something new, to be independent, for the adventure, but I'm also scared about leaving, nervous about living on my own, and sad that I'll be leaving my family and friends behind. I think things will work out just fine though, and with the internet and telephones/cell phones communication is so easy! I plan on writing letters though. I am going to be an English major after all, so I love to write.
