I hate Irritating and load consuming text spam!

I have been receiving a text spam for the past week giving me instructions how to stay subscribed to a service that I never subscribed to! What really irritates me is the fact that my load balance gets eaten up by these messages at the rate of 2.50 per spam and another 2.50 to turn these messages off. I don't understand why I have to pay to read those annoying advertisements and to turn off these (dis)service would mean another expense on my part! Can anyone please tell me how to spam proof my phone? Aren't these unsolicited messages illegal?

yeah. i think you should call your service provider too. you can ask them to turn the unsolicited messages off and explain to them that you had no idea how they have been activated. calling customer service is free too as long as you have enough load to make a call but there won't be any deductions. it happened to me too but it were those ringtunes (is that what it's called). and i really had no idea that i was subscribed to that so i didn't knew where my load was going. so i called and asked them why i kept losing credits, and they told me. so i told them to deactivate it. :)

I did not just call I went directly to my network's wireless center to have the service deactivated yesterday in the hope that they would be able to stop these spam from eating up my load credits. This morning, I received the spam message again with another new one! Instead of having spam removed, now, I have more of them! Grrr! I called their hotline to complain about this and was told to just WAIT, yeah, wait till they eat up more of my credits! Their excuse--because it takes 24 hours before the service is deactivated!

that sucks. :s when i called their hotline and asked them to deactivate it, they deactivated it then and there. maybe those spam messages are not from the provider's network? i wonder...

i don't know what spam you are receiving. i don't receive any. the only spam i receive is when i buy load. i will receive message that my earning will expire is such date. and also another promoting the all text promo, ilke just text ATC15 to 4900 and you will have 100 text to smart and talk and text + 5 text to other networks and 5 minutes of calls to Smart and Talk and text. besides that i don't receive any other kinds of promos. though i still receive but very seldom. and i just erase them when i do. i just don't know what other people do or what they subscribed to that caused them to receive the spam messages. so if you are irritated just get a new sim and make sure this time you won't any more subscribe to the ringtone , picture messages and whatever promo cause this will make you receive non stop spam messages.

Good for you that you don't receive any unsolicited text messages! I never did anything but had my cellphone reloaded with credits which I always do on a monthly basis. I was happy to see that I had an extended expiry on the load but a few days after I had my load, these spam messages started to come in and eat up my load.

That is why I never chose to be in prepaid. At least in postpaid I could see how much I used my load per month with the billing statement. I think the best that you could do is to call their call centers and complain your concern as I know this is considered wrong as per their agreement with the senate when they agreed to extend the expiration of the loads and to minimize these spam texts that consumes your loads unknowingly. i hope these cellphone companies would stop using these dirty tactics to use the loads which is not intended for such.

I would call the FTC (federal trade commission) and see if you can do anything. The only other thing I can think of to do is to get a throwaway phone. I use Net10 at ten cents a minute. I rarely use it and have 2500 minutes saved up, it's only for emergencies and I never get spam. Since it's a basic phone with no extras, I don't think it can send or receive text messages. I never get spam. Good luck!

I thought that subscribers have already removed those text spams. I know that they are very irritating. They always send you text messages regarding subsrciptions but you have not really availed of that services. That is totally foul.

I guess that you should call your provider's support so that you can stop all those subscribed services on your phone. I hope this helps.

I think you have to call to the hot line of your mobile service provider, and then you tell them your complains and they will instruct you what to do..That happened to me also and then i just followed their instructions and fortunately no spam texts anymore in my cellphone.

It also happened to me, i called the provider and requested for their supervisor. Im working in a call center as technical support, so i know they can do something about it, i even requested for my load back considering i didnt request for any ringtones and didnt do any subscription whatsoever. The supervisor said that i have to send a msg requesting to turn off the subscription, i told him he just need to push the buttons, we had almost 30min of aruguments and he finally turned it off! without me paying for 5.00. and my load balance back.

i guess you must have responded to one of the company messages.. when you do that even just once, your phone will get flooded with these messages and ringtones you would have to call your server and they will tell you how to get rid of these.. i have tried that before.

you can't really call-block anyone on a cell phone that i'm aware of. you can, however, stop most of the spam online. a lot of spam sites originate from inputting a cell phone number in a website, or texting to a "vote" site. if you haven't already, send them back a text with the words "stop" and "cancel".
