When responding to a discussion do you read the post or just the title?

The title says it all. I think having the right title determines how many responses you get. I have sometimes just read the title and then responded, but I try to read through the post first.

i agree with you, the title does say it all. whether i post or not is primarily determined by the title of the post. if the title of the post catches my eye and piques my interest, then i shall read it and post if i deem it worthy of a post. i say deem it worthy because sometimes titles can be misleading. you see the title, think it will be awesome, then turns out to be a dud.

Well I always read the title first to see if the post might interest me first. Then I read the post all the way through, or if it is one of those really long ones then I will scan the post and then answer it.

When I am attracted by the title, I would read through the post to get the overall background, so that I can offer my opinions which is additional or special, but always concrete from my understanding.

The title has to be attractive, if that is the case I would start reading the excerpt and when the thumbs are up I would read the whole post and decide whether or not Ill leave a post. I agree, the title is very important. Mankind is lazy, we don't read everything in full, we scan. ( unless you're my mum )

Thanks for responding I think one reason we just read the title is because we're in a rush. Maybe that's why Twitter is so popular...

Usually just the title. Whenever the title doesn't say enough, I usually read half the description.I just read until I understand what the discussion is about.

I always read everything thats written unless its a single large paragraph with 10lines. When its broken into paras its easier to read. I do skim through all the posts so that I get an idea of whats already there. I go on adding a few lines in addition to whats already there. Skimming gives me some time to think abt answers. Others answers also give ideas. Very rarely I jus post.

ruhalda, you bring up a great point. It is a good idea to break up your post into bite sized chunks, your readers will be more likely to finish reading the post. You can do this by using indents, spaces, bold, italics, underline, and the icons The same applies towards comments. Thanks for responding

Hi rahulda, You are right. Reading a long single paragraph discussion is a bit annoyed. Sometimes we lost at the middle of it. It is easier if they write it in a few paragraphs and point by point.

I'm with Mike which is why I don't make a lot with mylot. I read A LOT. I will read a title and if it intrigues me then I will read the post. If it still intrigues me I will read the first several responses, and their comments...If I feel I still have a strong feeling on the subject then I'll read the last several responses and comments to be sure the conversation is still going the way I like. And only then do I respond myself. I don't always get to the responding phase. I would be quite rich by now if I was paid for my actual read time.

I am sort of like that too, and that's one reason I try to stick to shorter posts. I won't usually read a long one unless it is on an interesting topic. Thanks for responding

hi k46620 I read post and title as sometimes a catchy title doesnt really tell you what the discussion is about. i had one that all read the title and few' the discussion and by the answers I knew they had not read my discussion.thats not a very wise thing to do as you are shortchanging the person who made the discussion. if he or she can take the time to think out a discussion and type it,you owe it to that mylotter to read the discussion first then respond to it

I usually do read the whole disucssions, unless it is really long and then I don't as it takes to long t read the discussion. In that case, if the title interests me, then I will respond. That is basically how I pick the disucssons I want to respond to, is by the title. Ome titles, just seem to dump right out at me, and others don't. It just all depends on what the title is. Lately, the discussions seem to be getting a little better, than what they were, and I am finding more to post to, and I am glad about that as well. Good luck to you and happy mylotting.

Thanks for responding Seems like a good title is one of the most important things to get someone to read your post and hopefully respond

Hi K46620, I always try to read the whole post before giving my response. Sometimes title is misleading. They put that title only for an attraction. By reading the whole post, we can avoid giving a wrong respond. It is also give some idea on how the discussion starter feel about his discussion. Title alone didn't determine how many responses you will received. There is a lot of attractive title but received less responses. Having a lot of friends might help to get a huge number of responses especially if your friends are active.

Thanks for responding, titles certainly are not the only factor in getting a response. I know I should read the whole post, and usually I do, some tittles are misleading.
