My question is is it playing fair for us to already do the best response if we have only had our discussion out for 8 hours or less? I thought we were advised to wait at least a week or so. i know the temptation is in to give a Br when you find a great response right away. So is this just some who are newcomers, or has that idea of waiting a few days changed drastically? I would love to know. After all if you did wait the great response you were tempted to give a best response would still be there but others would more likely answer if you waited, you may get more responses also if you wait a bit.

People can mark best response when ever they want to, it is best to wait for about a week or so, because their are people that will not respond if a best response has already been chosen. If best response has been picked already and i think that i can add to the discussion i will respond. it does not matter to me one way or another.

I had a newbie give me one the other day in 8 minutes! LOL! I always wait 1 day that's the advise I was given by someone when I first started! If it's already given out when I go to respond I'll leave, isn't that the point? tdemex

hi tdemex thats the whole point of waiting a week to let those who work get in on the fun too, most people will turn away if its given so soon

I agree that to some user it may be unfair. I wait at least 2 or 3 weeks to give a BR. As far as receiving one I do not care and it certainly does not deter me from posting a response. I never check to see if BR has been "awarded?". Most of my responses are from my email notifications and it is not visible when using this method to post.

I dont know if its so good or if it was just an aha moment as when I read your comment I remembered' reading one from you about best responses ages back and I had made a discussion bemoaning my only getting a few responses and I know I had already given the best respoonse. oh I was so green and got into so'much static over making discussions over not smoking.I lost points And my star. I learned I am not the confrontational type. he he

hi whiteheather I learned to wait from a mylotter'who said, and this is amusing, this mylotter happend to be whiteheather a long time back, maybe you should wait two or three weeks to give a b r as some mylotters are' turned away when they see the br is already given.I headed your advice and I began to get twice as many responses when I waited before giving out the BR

Hatley - I've seen people give best responses in less than an hour!!! I still answer if the discussion interests me, but dang!! And, here I have discussions that are a year old or more that I still haven't gotten to for a BR. I'm just bad at it, although I do try to get to them every few weeks! I don't know what a BR does to benefit us, but at least give the world 24 hours to turn so everyone has a chance to respond!! And, again - I am really glad to see you back!

hi neildc I learned to wait as often I gave a best response only to have someone respond a day later with even a better response. then I wish I had not been so premature with my br giving so I could be a bit more fair. now I wait at least a week or two.

Hello Hatley, unless the topic was a specific question which you wanted advice on and the answer comes right back in and you don't need any more responses to it, then I wait. I usually wait a few weeks until I'm certain the topic isn't going to crop up again and then give the best response. If I open a topic and it has already been given the best response then I'll still answer it. I do feel guilty though when I get a best response straight off after a couple of hours as it has been given too soon and the poster should have waited to review all the responses. I'm suprised though if you open something quite old up though to see that no best response has been given at all, I think we should all give them as a matter of courtesy to those who have replied.

hi thea thats it when I first came I too gave them in a hurry and found I was only getting a few answers to my discussions then someone clued me in wait at least a week. lo and behold I got] slews of responses so it worked I wont wait months tho as that is unfair.

that was not very nice of him to do that. but also we really should give best responses to eachof our discussions. this is a nice way to give a pat on the back to a mylotter who has touched you wih his or her response , we all need pats on the back once in awhile.

Hello Hatley, one of my friends posted a topic last week just wanting an answer to something which was given in the third response he received so he tried to close the discussion down by giving a best response. I went in as about number ten and said to him it's won't work, it's going to carry on, even though at the bottom of each response he'd typed thank you but this question has now been answered. I said no one will read the responses above and will just keep posting so even though you have your answer you'll need to be good now and give a nice answer to all these Mylotters still answering. Which reminds me I'm going to go now and check how many responses he got in the end to his 'this topic is closed and best response has been given' remarks.

i can perfectly understand what you mean... unfortunately, it is really up to the owner of the discussion to decide when he/she wants to give the best response... and if the person is impatient and decide to give br after a few hours of posting the discussions, then it is his/her decision... there is no specific rule actually of giving br... take care and have a nice day...

hi lingli yes ultimately the owner of the discussion canand will do what he or she sees fit. I just wish they would wait for every one to read the discussions before deciding on best response. It seems to me to be much more fair if you wait at least one week.

here i am yearslater. go read the guidelines as while it may not be a rule perse mylot admins does suggest you wait two weeks to as I su ggested let people who have been away now have a chance to respnd also they say it is not fair to choose friends or buddies,be impartial.two weeks is not too long and it is much fairer. this is in the guidelines by the way

I hardly ever notice if a BR has been given in a discussion unless it is because I was given the BR right away. I'm sure it is mostly new people that do that, the rest of us generally wait so long that by the time we do give a BR the person we're giving it too has forgotten all about the discussion

I would say that eight hours is awfully early to be giving a best response rating. I usually respond to discussions rather than start them, but when I have started them, I usually wait a week or two before giving a best response. And, if there isn't a response that I think is worthy, I don't give a best response rating.

hi renitaperrone yes that older mylotter was in a hurry'and I would bet shes one who only gives brs to her friends which is okay up to a point I think we should give at least two or three weeks before giving outBRs and we should give a BR only because its the best response we have seen no matter whether a friend did it or a mylotter one had never met.

hi piya when i first started here I gave best responses at once and wondered why I got very few responses to my discussions. I 'made a discussion complaining about not getting many responses to my discussions. a kind mylotter responded and told me to wait at least two weeks before giving out best responses as some are turned off if the br is already given out when they come.

Maybe the thread starter didn't know much about giving the BR. I guess they needed to know that they have to give chance to other members here to participate so that giving BR is not biased. I do see most members give their BR after three hours of posting their discussion. But it is really up to them to close their own discussion, close in a sense that you won't have the chance to get it once they selected the BR. I do give one week or days to give my BR, so that I will still get more respondents to my topic and at the same time give chance for other members to point out their views by participating in the discussion.

hi strawberrychocodahi wow what a user name. they may have been new but dont think so as they had a lot of points after their username. but of course they have'the right to give brs whenever they feel like it.my point'was only that it is not very fair not to let a lot of people read your discussion first, I personally dont respond just to get a br. I respond because I liked the discussion.

This is a great question especially for the newbies. Although I did read the FAQs, I was wondering what BR is all about... I'm glad I did not dive in yet to choose a BR! Next question: is it necessary to always choose a BR, what if there's none? Cheers!

thanks nenuphar hatley here Ido think that we should' always chose a Best response even if its just the best out of a bunch of not too great responses. it still gives allof us incentives to respond to the discussions that appeal to us. after all all the' respondents did give their time and effort towards responding to ones discussion and that should be rewarded.

A discussion should not be resolved too fast as it will slow down your responses. For me it will take me months to give my BR as I believe a discussion will draw in many more responses if it has not been resolved. I am in no hurry to award my BR.

I wait ages before awarding it as many of my discussions bumpback to life again. I have see users on here awarding it 'between friends'andthat is totally wrong and not what myLot is about. We are told to wait at least a week and so they should - but they don't read the FAQs and make their own rules up

I have noticed that some people give out br's far too quickly. After all it is rare for me to see a discussion in less than 8 hours as I am in a different time zone. I tend to wait a week at least and sometimes a month before I give out any on my discussions. If a discussion interests me I will always respond regardless of the br as I just like giving my opinions. Not that I post all that much these days though. I do find that more people will respond if the br has not gone out and if the discussion starter bothers to come back and respond to the responses. Some people do not do that at all and I find it very annoying.

Hi Hatley! I have seen people give the very first response the best response! Now that is really strange! If I see that a br has already been given it won't stop me from giving my response, but I can see that it would stop some people from bothering to respond! I think that different people and different discussions can sometimes make the difference! I can see that if once in awhile you get an absolutely incredible and unbelievable response within a day and you want to give the br, at least you have waited! I try to wait, but then sometimes I wait too long and forget to do it until I go back and see that I have unresolved discussions! But, then sometimes I have given best responses and find months later that they have suddenly become unresolved again! Another mylot mystery!

hi opal I always wondered about always just hitting best 'response on the very first one.thats unfair to all the others who responded. I really read them all then narrow my choice done to two then to one but I seldom give my best response to the very first unless its really a lot 'better than all the rest.

I've given out a best response before only to find that the next response posted was better then the last. I think a person should probably wait for a few days before giving the best response, however if you are forgetful, it may be best to post sooner. Better to give a pre-mature best response then no best response at all... don't you think?
