Mylot allows you to copy - paste even before 500 ratings..Did you know???

I found this out today. Anyone can copy paste while posting in mylot before they reach the official 500 rating. The only problem here is you can only copy paste about 3-4 words at a time. This came to me as a surprise because I thought mylot restricted the 'pasting' facility absolutely. It will help me give links and references while posting in the future. I hope this information is new to you and helps other new mylotters...

It is not new information. Many are aware of it but choose not to use it. In the same way that you could drive a car when you are 16 - but you don't or you could go out drinking when you are 15 - but you don't or you could drive up a one-way street the wrong way - but you don't... or maybe you do? Why mess about with things that are not supposed to be done and risk doing them wrong - and losing everything?

Yes, I do know that, specially if you are reading Mylot FAQ, you will also know it too. But there is always a rule of thumb on copy pasting. You need that to add in the discussion to make it more interesting , but in a sense that you would not practice plagiarism and just copy a topic from else where and then post it here on Mylot. Maybe that is the most important thing to remember, not the ability of someone to copy paste, but the regularities with regards to plagiarism.

I have known about since I reached 200 posts, but I don't use it, as I feel it is taking the easy way out. I would much rather type my own ideas than copy and paste soemthing Ihad seen elsewhere. I really do think the copy and paste function has been misused. I just hope that mylot does away with it, as to me it can be cheating in certain situations. It takes more thinking to come up with your own ideas, and I think that is why users copy and paste, because they don't want to have to think about what they want to say. It isn't that hard to do your own. If I can do it anyone can do it. Good luck to you and happy mylotting.

I disagree. I think the copy paste can be valuable. Say you want to comment on a news story or blog post, but you can't or would rather not link to it, then you can post the news story or something right into your message and comment on it. That is the way the copy paste is supposed to be used, to comment on something elsewhere on the net, not to plagiarize. That is what I intend to use it for as soon as I get my 500 posts (which is coming up soon)

I didn't knew this ....I have tried it once when i wanted to share something from my own blog But it showed a message saying you need to have at least 500 responses to be able to do this.So i never tried that again. But thanks for informing us anyway i think many will find it very useful....specially all those who don't like to type to much.

Hmmm i don't know that, but if that true that not make a big effect to us. Than must paste 3-4 words I prefer to write it myself by my keyboard. It will be more efficient than I have to copy paste to myLot. I really, really want if I can copy my text and the paste it to mylot, so if I found some discussion that need some short story in it, I need not to rewrite that. But I will be patient until my rating reach 500.

Hiiiii Sagnik 42 I wasnt aware of it.Thanks for informing me about it.But i have doubt how much it will be effective because there is limitation of 4-5 words only.We can type 3-4 words easily isnt it?It will be good only when words are very large and spelling are confusing.

I did a copy and paste once and never could remember how do do it again! I'm very computer naive! I can surf the web, send and recieve e-mails but when it comes to doing stuff like copy and paste forget it! I can't even figure out how to post photo's on Mylot or on Facebook! I did figure out how to get the photo's on my computer and I think I did it by accident! I'd love to copy and paste on Mylot or on Facebook! Unforuntely I don't know how! If it was written down and I kept it near by I'd be fine! Ohterwise forget it! Trying to explain it to me by just telling me ii goes right over my head! I can't comprehend things like that! That way! I get so darn frustrated! I really need a "computer or pc for dummies" book!

Yes, I knew this not long ago. And now I am nearly 500 posts, and I hope I could reach 500 ratings soon. It is good to use the copy function, very convenience sometimes. Have a nice day!
