I'm totally baffled right now. Has this happened to you?

I received an alert warning me that myLot has noticed a rash of inappropriate tag words on my discussions. At least, I think they said it was my discussions and not my comments. Even if it was comments, I've NEVER used inappropriate tag words, not once, ever! Have any of you received an alert like this one? What happened? Is there any way to find out if specific people (trolls) are adding inappropriate tag words to our discussions? I did some research and did see some rather strange tag words under some of my discussions that had nothing to do with the topic. One tag word was "8". That's all, just the number and it had nothing whatsoever to do with my discussion. I KNOW that I did not put that in there and, when I clicked on it, another member did pop up, someone with only 29 posts. There were some other strange keywords that I KNOW I did not add under other discussions of mine. Has this happened to you? I've written to myLot admin about this but I don't know what else to do. If it has happened to you, how did you handle it? Were you banned? That's what worries me most... being banned for something that is entirely NOT my fault. I'm going to add no tag words to this discussion. I plan on not entering any tag words until this is straightened out. Do you think it's trolls at work?

Hello mentalward, I'm answering this from email so hope I'm not duplicating someone. I noticed this at the weekend and alerted Mike to the fact that inappropriate words about him were attached to his tags on a discussion with just two responders, thinking that one of them must have put the words there. I did not realise until Mike told me that anyone can go into a discussion and tap it without responding, obviously a complete waste of time for anyone except time wasters. The best way to avoid this is by putting as many tags onto your own discussions as possible, I've been doing this for weeks now, I aim for 8 or 10 tags so that it cannot be labelled with unsuitable or defamotry words. Hope this clarifies.

Thanks for your nice response Mentalward, even though you already had your answer. I owe Hic a thanks for pointing you out to me. I believe that the abuse of tags was started by returning members who are not allowed to rate discussions negative. I haven't noticed any on my own discussions by using so many tag words but take no credit for this idea, I read it a few weeks ago and have been implementing it since.

yes , i think that we should tag appropriately the discussion. is it still allowed to skip tagging the discussions. cause i don't like adding tag any more on discussions i post to specially if someone has given the same tag on the discussion.

I did a search to see if there were other discussions like this one but nothing came up. If I had seen others, I would have responded to them instead of creating a new one. But, I'm glad it was for everyone, just to let us know that they're going after the culprits!

Yes, we all received the alert message. I wouldn't let it worry you. They just probably have many people putting tags with topics that they don't really go with so when there is a search for such a topic theirs comes up.

We all received the alert. They know we all didn't do it. They probably contacted the ones who specifically did it through a PM or something.

Sometimes, I won't use tags, especially when I can't quite figure out how to tag it. I don't think we have to tag, but it is helpful for searches though. I try to tag as much as I can, when I can figure out what tags to use that is. Like the users said,we all got the alet,as I gotit too, and when I saw the alert, I wasn't worried, as I knew that basically it was a generic alert for everyone. Ihad heard about the tags that were being put on discussions that were rude. That to me is just plain childish, and you can bet that mylot will deal with them. Good luck to you and happy mylotting.

I always try to use as many tags as I can and they're always appropriate to the topic. I know that alerts are sent out to everyone but must've had a brain fart or something once I read what it said. I love it here so much that being unable to interact here anymore was all I could think about, so I took it personally. I'm VERY happy to know it isn't just me but that everyone got this alert. I'm also very happy to know that myLot is on the ball and doing what they can to get rid of these troublemakers.

That was my initial reaction too. What inappropriate words?? I never ever wrote inappropriate tags in my discussions and responses. Then I realized that it was a warning for everyone in mylot hehehe Its good that they took notice of the activities that was happening here in mylot and they acted upon it by reminding the delinquents of the effects of their actions.

I don't know what to think about it mentalward, but I don't think it was just targeted at you, but rather the entire community as I'm guessing every member got this alert. Heck, even my husband received it and he hasn't even been on here in over a year! (I was curious, so I checked.) I've received inappropriate tags in discussions that I've started before. Tags I know that I didn't put on there such as a couple of letters in the alphabet. I don't know why some people do this, nor do I understand how mylot could catch the culprit(s) that do it. It sure would suck BIG TIME if the OP got in trouble because of someone else putting inappropriate tags on their discussion. I hardly bother adding tags to other peoples discussions anymore, with the exception if it doesn't have any or hardly any tags at all. Though I certainly don't abuse my tagging power! I'm just trying to help the OP get their discussion noticed. One thing I still try to do though when it comes to tagging discussions is add a "mature content" tag, but only if my response, or the discussion itself, warrants it. With all the crazy things that have been going on, on mylot lately, admin might want to only grant the OP the power to tag their own discussion, if they wish to do so. That way no one else can abuse this feature. It's just a thought!

I've heard of one other person who got this email too. It makes no sense because why would the discussion maker put such tags on their own discussions? Duh?! Mylot associates need to realize this and wake up and smell the roses! It seems that trolls are on the loose again and something needs to be done about it but when?! Geeze....

As others have confirmed we all received that particular alert and I confess I too thought it was directed at me and I wondered what I had done! I too try to tag appropriately and I have noticed some senseless tags. Hope this will educate members and if the trolls are at work let‘s get those reports happening!

Yes I received the same message this morning and I thought I was the only one who received it. I know I don't put inappropriate tags on my discussions so it must be someone on mylot fooling around and I hope ADMIN catches them. This is such inmature behavior.

Before reading this post I thought that alert was intended for everyone, then I read this post and I thought, oh, no, it was not for everyone? It's for the selected few who violated the "tagging" rule? So as I read on I started thinking of reviewing my posts too to check if I did have such tags. Good thing your friends were quick to set the record straight - the alert was for everyone... Whew, I could have freaked out too. Cheers!

I just read the same alert, but didn't take it personally, as the tags I use, I feel are appropriate to the discussion. The alert is, I think, aimed at people who use tags that are irrelivent to the discussion.

How is the family. I'm sorry I haven't called yet but I'll surprise you one of these days. Let me know what is going on. Hugssss leenie

Hi mentalward, I, too, received this alert. Along with it was another alert telling me about myLot flyers. Did the alert actually say it was in your discussions? I don't see where it says that exactly. I think I tag fairly well. Usually I use about 5-8 tags. The max is 10 tags. Sometimes, I am guilty of using the tags from similar discussions, but they still pertain to the topic at bay. Anyway, perhaps it is trolls. Who knows? I still don't see where it says it's actually my discussions. It looks more like a general alert.

I myself received an alert about my tags and it shocked me as I am new to all of this (3 days old as a matter of fact). Still learning. I have read the regulations, etc. and am pretty sure that I have not entered any odd tags and I know for a fact that I have not entered any innappropriate ones, that I do know for sure. I would assume from my past experience that contacting MyLot administration was probably your best move and hopefully they will be able to rectify this situation and find out whether or not someone else is tagging your posts inappropriately. Good luck and I look forward to hearing the response you receive back from administration,

Yes, I have received this alert to into my account. After reading everyone's comments here. It really helped to lower my concerns about it. I will be sure to add tags to all the discussions I start from now on. Thanks.
