Don't you think Indian political system is all messed up? We see our politicians fighting for power. But what is the fight really for? To really develop our country or for power? Don't you feel there should be a retirement age for politicians as well? I feel more and more young citizens should come forward for politics.

Yes you are absolutely correct. In india, the age of Politician starts at 55+ which is considered to be the retirement age of politicains in other countries. The maximum age a person can work in a government job is 60 but these politicians contiune till 80 which is not at all a good sign in politics. The present chief minister of TamilNadu is 87 years old and I still wonder how he is in ploitics till date. Currently, he must be the oldest Politician in the World. Yes, the Over aged Politicans are a cause of concern and this has to be addressed soon. I donno how they can take a proper decision at 70's and 80's. God save the country

Absolutely right. India is a young country with an average age of 40 years. But the one's ruling it are twice this age. Hope a law is soon passed regarding retirement age of politicians. The politicians should concentrate more on the country's growth than satisfy their greedy needs at the cost of a country's growth.

Recently I saw a photo of Barrack Obama and Medvedev. Obama was visiting Russia where he met the Russian president. Both are under fifty and looked too much energetic with their eyes saying a lot about their passion. Their work and body languages are for everyone to see. Not always, but more often, it is better for a country if it is being run by young people. We all know the reason and euphoria behind Rahul Gandhi proved that indians are not against the ideas. but yet, when it comes to chosing the leader, we tend to give too much weightage to experience than youthful power. The time has come when we need to change our thinking. Political parties will also have to change their thinking.

Its unfortunate that we tend to follow the western world in many other aspects except politics.

yes, these politicians fight for their powers rather than fighting for the country and with the country's problems like poverty and unemployment. There should definitely be a retirement age as we know that old people are a bit far from understanding and there hearing, saying and understanding have shorted off. How can these people run our country.we know that our country is a young nation i.e. most of the population is in the age group of 15-30,its young India then why not young government.

To develop our country this type of fight is unnecessary. Rather after elections the ruling and the opposition party should join hands for the development of the country. The Ruling party should have the tolerance to take the advice of the opposition and the opposition should co-operate with the ruling party till it completes it term. They are really fighting for the (money)power. There should be a retiremenmt age for politicians. But we have to increase the number of states and the Rajbhavans.Because these Rajbhavans are the old age home for the Indian Politicians. We have to accomodate and take care of these people at their old age becase in their Gold age they developed us ???? I agree with you that more and more youngsters should come to politics, but not to this muck. Young people should comeforward and form a new political party for the upliftment of the women and the poor.

Totally agree with you. If they are really keen on developing our country winning elections really isn't necessary. But we all know why they are here for. And we have learned to accept all of it.

First of all there should be a retirement age for politicians. They look so awful when they limp their way to the palriament. its a shame they are not willing to give up their seats for the betterment of the country. And even if they do, they will see that their own kith and kin will be elected. Ordinary citizens will not be given a chance to stand up against the might of their riches and political parties. They want to see the bread butter jam cheese and everything to continue. Riches and power.

Dear Sandeep, First of all I am so glad to see you starting this type of discusssion. There seems to be so many cricket discussions etc, that it's nice for a change to see an Indian put something up which is of a higher priority, we definately need more of these discussions on mylot. I hope that you will be starting many more a such. I have much to learn from this all and perhaps some to contribute too. Indian Political system...all messed up.....tell me about it.....I have no idea how to even understand it.....I have infact given up and try to concentrate on things laterally related as I feel too much frustration with the frontline attitude. It would definitely be nice to see more youth step forward, and I'm sure they will be doing soon. However, the seniors to have some wisdom born from experience, so as long as the youth can be mature about it, then it's exactly what India needs. Great discussion....keep writing more!
