People hearing sounds in the night

Depending on where all of you good people live, I am sure you hear various night sounds according to your location: country, city large or small, etc. I noticed last night, since all the windows were open, the beautiful sounds of the crickets and tree frogs, the occasional talk or laughter of a neighbor, and once in a while, the sound of a vehicle driving by on the street, or a dog barking. Which sounds do you people hear in the night that are unique to your location? Thank you. Karen

Hi Kitty! I hate when something wakes me from a sound sleep. It can be very startling, so I can see how it frightened you. I hope you sleep peacefully well tonight and have a lovely day tomorrow. Karen

HI KAREN, First of all i envy u that u can have your windows open. I like to do that but not right now. I really don't hear any noises at night, i live in a cove & it's pretty quiet , thank heavens. about all i hear is my clock striking. I'M SO USE TO IT DON'T PAY MUCH ATTENTION TO IT. I can hear the freight train when it goes through in the daytime.

Hello my friend. I do not have a chiming or striking clock, but the neighbors do, and sometimes I can hear that...very pretty. My clocks only "tick." My dad used to always like to have a kuckoo clock in the house. It fascinated us when we were kids. And I love the sound of a train going through in the distance...sort of a nostalgic sound. Nice sounds :) Karen

Well, I only hear tree frogs and crickets sounds when I'm on vacation in mountain area once a year.. In my room, mostly sound that I hear is air conditioner. I found myself can sleep easily when hear this song. Another sound is vehicle that pass by my house and the bird's chirping (seems like they make a nest on the roof exactly up from my room's ceiling).. If it's Monday night, there's Monday night market in front of my house. That market is long, contains many small traders who sells clothes, music (CD, mic, etc), shoes, slippers, boiled nuts, ice, etc..so it's noisy. The market closed at 11 pm. During market, the CD's seller turn on the tape loudly so people can hear the quality and various of music...

Hi Chrysan. Those sounds are rather pleasant during the springs and summers here, though sometimes a bit loud lol. I am not sure I would like all the market sounds at night when I am trying to sleep. Nor would people who work at night and try to sleep in the daytime! Have a good weekend. Karen

Hi Angel. It's good to sleep in the quiet. I also hear cars in the night, but I run a fan to shut out those noises. Well, except for the occassional siren. They are hard to drown out! Take care. Karen

Hi mc. Do the sounds annoy you, or are you used to them now? We have the tree frogs, but the birds here are usually quiet in the night. Other critters roam around sometimes, though, trying to get into the garbage dumpsters way out back. Ick! Have a peaceful night and a good weekend. Karen

Hi Nitin. Ack! Barking or fighting dogs can be so annoying when they go at it during the night time. Makes it hard to get to sleep, especially if they are right outside your house. I couldn't beat them, lol, but I might throw an old slipper at them lol. Karen

Hello there. Do you live in a large apartment building or such? I live in a smaller apartment complex, but there are large windows on both sides, so it is very rare not to hear sounds at night. Karen

Our tree frogs went crazy last night and the night before. We couldn't hear anything else it was so noisy. As soon as the temp starts to drop they do quite down. We usually hear coyotes, owls, and barking dogs, we hear cows if they have just been relocated, they will moo all night long.

Hi Pat. I love the tree frogs sounds, but oh yes, they can get really loud! Coyotes are a bit eerie sounding, but also something unique and a bit cool about it. I miss cows lowing too, but perhaps not all night long! Karen

Hi Kunizzul. I deliberately run a small fan at night all year round so that the steady sound drowns out odd noises and makes sleeping much more peaceful! Have a wonderful weekend. Karen

Honestly, my subdivision is so close to the street, and the unique sound I am so often to hear at night was siren, squeaking sound of vehicles on the brake. That is all I can hear from quiet night time. What else? occasionally dog barking sound from the neighborhood.

Hi Clorissa. It was so rare to ever hear a siren when I lived in the country side, but here in the city, even though it is a small city, I hear sirens at some point each day or night. So loud! And then the a small prayer goes through me for whomever it is that is sick or hurt. Karen

i guess im kind of lucky. i live near the top of a small welsh valley and one sound i usually hear is the river flowing down the mountains and rushing through the valley. add the sounds of lambs settling for the night, owls calling to each other and bats flying past my windows and i reckon that pretty much makes up for the noisy friday nights we sometimes get!

Ema, where you live and the sounds you get to enjoy sound heavenly. I do miss the country...and especially all the summer night sounds that go with living away from a city. Karen

Keeping windows open is not an option for me as we have a lot of mosquitoes. It is a luxury I can indulge only when there is rain as all the mosquitoes would have been washed away. It is the patter of rain water drop as it falls from leaf to leaf that is very relaxing, the birds nesting in the trees grumbling about the rain can be very funny. The noisy Loco and its followers (Wagons) can be irritating, but can pat you to sleep by their rhythm. When nothing happens, the sound of the silence is deafening, but the peace it brings is precious. I wish I could have all these, I have the buzz of Mosquitoes instead and the growl of someone snoring. I take comfort in the fact that I know that I am alive because of these sounds.

Hello there. Mosquitoes are truly annoying, yes? They make such a high-pitched whine. Here, the window screens keep almost all the rare one or two out of the house. I am not familiar with the birds you've mentioned. Where do you live. I do love the sound of rain falling. We had some about an hour ago. I am not sure I have ever heard complete silence. In the absence of all actual sounds, I can still hear a soft ring or buzz...the sound of silence, in my ears. Karen

I hate when that happens. Also, sometimes the wind sets off house alarms of those away on vacation. The sound just goes on and on until someone calls the police to enter the home and stop the noise! Have a beautiful weekend, and take care. I hope no car alarms disturb your sleep :) Karen

haha nice! Yeah i hear all kinda of noises... you have got to hate when a tree brushes against the house... that just sounds so weird! I have crickets all night long, frogs are occasional... But we get a lot of car wheels burning (I don't knwo why but they seem to always be near to hear). But possums are the main noises... they run on the roof.. and jump into the trees... sounds like troops running across the house! There are about 5 that do it all at the same time, once a night!

Hi AJ. Crickets and frogs I do not mind, but yes, a branch scraping the roof or a window is eerie. I used to swear that the natural sounds of house "settling" in the night were footsteps of a robber. That was when I was a child lol. Now that I'm an adult, I know where those creaking sounds come from. Ack! Possums and racoons are noisy! Sleep well tonight, though Karen

I live in the city, but I really do not hear much at night. The only time I really hear anything is when there is something trying to get into the dumpster in the alley. Other that that the air conditioner or my fan drown out all the other noises.

Hi lilybug. I have to keep a fan running for "white noise" to sleep my best at night. There is something soothing about it and it does cover up the real noises. Have a sweet night and thank you for responding :) Karne

Hi Marshiemallows...what a "sweet" screen name :) Ack! The occasional barking doesn't bother me, but a dog that barks all night long can about drive a person crazy. I think things always sound more scary in the night. I stayed with my daughter for a while a few years back, and the yipping of the coyotes in the country was eerie, but also a bit fascinating! Karen

the sound of trumphet but on the mouthpiece is the rubber used in bre*st pumps. i am sure it is unique because it is not found in any other country but the philippines. these are attached to bicycles where the driver presses on the rubber to make the trumphet sound and shouts "balot, penoy". they are the peddlers of eggs ducks with stillborn ducklings inside and cooked. many filipinos believe that these food makes the knees strong, hence a very popular street food. good for the old and the young. have you ever tried eating balot-penoy??? ann

Hi Ann. We DO have those kinds of horns and kids and even adults have them on bicycles, but perhaps they are smaller than the ones you describe:))) I have not eaten or even ever heard of a balot-penoy. I'm not sure I would like to eat and whole stillborn baby duck in the egg. What do they taste like? Do they really help the knees become stronger? It all sounds very interesting.
