I know many of you will give their opinion about this topic. I believe most of you wants to have at least to have 2 rest days in one week in your job especially to those employees that has a family. In this kind of topic,my point of view is that is depending upon on the nature of your job. And that is depending upon if your body can do it. With me, the nature if my work is customer service, so it is really tiring, there are some instances that I get 100 calls a day with different concerns. So i think one day rest day is not applicable to me,but with the kind of life that I have now, I am experiencing the recession, I am doing the what so called rest day over time or the what is known for RDOT.I only have one rest day in one week work. i have to do this to provide the needs of my family, but not all the time. If my body can, i will do it.But honestly, it is really hard.what about you?what is your point of view about this??happy myloting!!

I believe two days would be best for everyone. But I don't think anyone gets that. My husband works two jobs and usually only gets one day off each week. I own my own small town newspaper so I am constantly keeping my eyes and ears open for news. As the only reporter, layout person I don't really get any time off. But yes in a perfect world we would all have two days off to relax and enjoy time with family and friends.

that would truly be the best for everyone my friend. because we have saturdays and sundays off from work. wow! with that kind of business and the only person totally involve in yor work, can you still find time to your family my friend. but if you truly just love your work then long hours or only few days off is not really a questioned to be pondered about. but i do hope you could find time to rest my friend jhelai

I think it is important to have at least two days off from work each week. Our bodies and our minds need the time off or eventually we will begin to have problems, both physical and even mentally. Now I know that today's economy is hard and we do have to work extra time to make ends meet but it is important to get that time off eventually or you may reach a point where you are unable to work from being overstressed and tired and just worn out. I feel that it is important to take care of yourself first because you won't be able to help the family if you are not doing good. That has been my experience for myself anyway.

I think I am the person that you are talking too. I have my two rest days. But I can't totally rest on those days because I am here online and trying my luck to have a good earnings.I can really see and feel the effect to me. Most of the time, i will so hard headed and easily get irritated in the office because I did not get enough sleep. I can also feel some physical and mental problems. Even I sustain myself with food, my mind is still not functioning well, so taking a rest is really needed. thanks for sharing.happy mylotting!

In my case I have two rest days every week. I can say that I would want more but it is hard to forget that I also want to finish some works at the office during weekends especially when meeting deadlines. I guess employees should be given two days of rest. One day is too fast especially to those who have overtimes usually.

When I was still a student, I managed to have a summer job. The job needs a lot of physical work and I only had one rest day. On my first rest day all I've was sleep for that whole day :) It was then that I realized how important sleep is. Thanks to God for providing us a way to really rest. People who really work are the only ones who can really appreciate the importance of sleep.

You are right wrangel15 .All of us should have at least two days off. We cannot enjoy rest day if it will be only one day, but due to crisis, there are some instances that I only have one rest day in one week.As what I have said in my discussion, I do the rest day over time or the RDOT. I have to do it because I want to save for my future and support my family as well. Thanks for sharing!!

wrangel15 you are right my friend. one rest days is not enough. even two days its quite not that enough too. we also need all the rest we could get to be more productive in our work and be a more good employee. but still we need a job so i guess 2 days off would be enough for the moment. sometimes we only got 1 rest day because of our overtimes. whew! but what can i say, i need the money and job. jhelai

I have four days off most weeks but sometimes I will work an extra day to get some overtime. I work 12 1/2 hour shifts so on the days I work I don't have time for much else but I find that it is worth working that many hours so I can have four days that are all mine to do what I want with and not have to worry about going to work. Even when I want overtime and pick up an extra shift I still have three days off which is more than moat people get. I had a job for several years that I was lucky to get one day off a week and it was in customer service. I finally figured that the stress was not worth the pay and the hours work so I went into a new field and now am making more money and I am not stressed out all the time so it is wonderful.

my friend rberon. you know what its the very first time i have known your type of work. but with that kind of dealings., i guess one rest day is not really enough. i dont know they are paying you. would it still be no work no pay theme or... i cant find other ways for now. but with us, though i work in a government office. but being a rpoject based contractual is not an easy way to do it. we dont have rest days and we always deal with over times. specially on quarter ends. if we dont have work meaning we are not paid. and our salary is not that big either. so if its time for over times, i always wanted to do it. so that i could have extra cash for our daily needs and the needs that i could provide for my parents. i know its hard... and i know you still strive to make it for your familys sake, right?! but hey., we are only human. we do really need all that extra time out for ourselves. but then i always end up wondering., why on earth do i have to questioned this kind of things where in fact i am here because i needed to and i need to help my family in any way i could. then why should i always asks myself about it?! maybe sometimes, we just need to rest and rethink everything else... before, we end up tiring ourselves too much and end up being sick... i dont know what i am saying here friend. but well that is what i have in mind at this very moment... i am bringing home some office works., so after mylotting... work work work again. jhelai

I am quite confuse on your respond my friend.lol. With me, my rest day over time or RDOT is being paid by the company. It is actually bigger than my regular pay that is why used to do it to add up to my earnings. i have to do it for my family.Earning a leaving here in our country is really hard. hard work is really needed for us to survive.I hate bringing jobs at home,it seems that you will be working 24 hours already. my job is actually not very easy, anytime I can be out of the company so I have to take good care of my stats.happy myloting!!

am i confusing you friend?! lol! i am a government employee but not a Regular govt employee yet. so we are called project based contractors. we dont have rest days. but our contracts always ended up to every third month. and fortunately we still ended up being renewed by our company. we dont have huge salary so when we have over times., we would truly do it. to have extra money in our pockets. work is hard specially in our position. we dont know when we are still needed or not. but we are hoping for the best. jhelai

My friend jhelai it is more clear now. lol.Why you still keep on staying in the company if they don't regularized employees? what about if they did not renew you already?I hope it won't happen, but we cannot control the situation since we are in the recession period. Most of the companies are cutting cost and one thing that they do is they lessen the number of their employees. Why not look for a company that will give you a better income?I can see that you really have the skill. You have the talent. I hope you the idea that I gave you will help you think. happy mylotting!!

when i used to work as a regular employee, the official work days is five and we get to have the weekend off. however, the very nature of my job, which sometimes involves travel... sometimes my weekends were consumed by work also. then i could schedule a rest day within 30 days. i could have a long weekend if not too busy with work or no rest days at all when i'm preparing for travel and trainings. this set-up is fine when one does not have spouse and kids to come home to. it's a totally different matter if one has a family. it should not be all about work or earning income. i's a necessity yes, but we also have to spend quality time with family and friends and re-charge ourselves for the following week. otherwise burn-out is in tall order. hehehe i had experienced it. working 7 days a week... travelling a few days to a few months each time... living in hotels... eat and run/drive... going home a couple of hours just to say hi and i'm off again to a new place... sleepless nights... working 16-20 hours during busy days... getting to sit on my desk only once a month (sometimes)... missing holidays and special events in the family... etc. at some point, would you believe that almost all the taxi drivers know who i am in that city i used to live in. they knew my office and home whenever i called in for a cab. i could easily take a few minutes nap whenever they fetch me or drop me off to my destination... without the need to direct them. it was very financially rewarding but very tiring also. after a few years like that, it has taken its toll on me. and i badly needed the break. as a freelancer/independent right now, i have the option to really work hard for a few weeks and then i could afford to have a vacation for several weeks if i don't want to work. i'd be financially settled for a few months if needed. or i could do light work every now and then (but continuously) so i could afford a few rest days each week. now i make sure i spend lots of time with my family.

I have 2 rest days in a week and I don't want to reduce it to only one day. For some employees working in private companies there are 6 working days and only one day off. Government employees have 5 working days and 2 days off, with the exception of those who are in the military and medical services, i think. I think we need enough rest to recover from hard days work and to have some time to bond with our family.

Wow , good to hear that you still have part time job aside from your real job. In your case, it is not advisable to have only one rest day. Working online for me is consider as my part time job. Thanks for the response.happy mylotting!!

It is good that you have a permanent rest day. With me, since I am working in a call center, there is no permanent rest day so it is really hard to adjust.Time schedule also changes. How i wish that my work schedule would be fix with the time and the rest day but whatever i do, it won't be possible. It's good that you help your Mom in the household chores. I can see that you are really a responsible daughter. Happy mylotting!!

Hi rberon, NO, I'm not amenable to having just 1 rest day per week. Two rest days a week is what is generally being followed by most companies, and I believe it should stay that way to ensure that employees get the rest they need to recharge and re-energize for the next workweek. I don't know with yours but in most companies, working overtime or during restdays may be allowed only when there are things that are urgently needed to be done that can't wait for the next day. And this is not the prerogative of the employee, the decision lies on someone who heads the department, and that will be based on the workload at a given period. But of course your case may be different and the scenario I described above may not be applicable to you. Peace!

Yes, you are right, in my situation, it is really different. In our company, the employee has the opportunity to use his / her rest day to work for an additional income. I used to do it due to economic crisis.I have to save for my future and of course to help my family on their basic needs. It is really hard in my part but I require myself to do it. happy mylotting!!
