I can't even believe I'm asking this question, but I'm very interested to know everyone's opinion. I can't remember when I got my first bra (too many years ago I guess). My daughter is 10 and I swear she is almost ready for one. Is it too early? Her daddy & I are so not ready for this. I know kids these days are growing up faster and maturing earlier....but really? Can't wait to hear what ya'll have to say. When did YOU buy your daughter her first training bra?

That's so cool that you remember it and your mom made it so memorable! I don't remember my first bra at all. I remember wearing it but not buying it or even how old I was. I'm going to take my daughter this Sunday after church, her and I alone, to get her first. I'm going to try to make it as memorable as possible. thank you!

Hi waters1748, I think it's really up to your daughter. If she's getting self-conscious about other people staring at her chest, I think it's time to buy her a bra. When my daughter was 10 years old, she was chesty and I told her I would buy her a bra but she refused to wear them until she complained that her friends kept looking at her chest. She became embarrassed and decided herself that it was time for her to wear a bra.

That is what I wanted to hear. So your daughter was pretty much ready at 10, but you waited for the right time. My daughter is excited about getting a bra. The reason it came up is because her daddy & I have been noticing that she seems to be developing enough to need one. She is my oldest, is it weird that this is just freaking me out? I just can't believe we are at this stage. Thank you for your answer, it was pretty much exactly what I wanted/needed to hear.

I know what you mean. Girls are more complicated. They have all these phases that they go through. Wait till your daughter starts to have her period. That would freak you out even more but just prepare yourself and your daughter for that phase earlier and you two will come out of it all right. Good luck.

Thank you to all my myLot friends for making me feel better about this decision. My daughter isn't really chesty yet, so I wasn't sure. But I know in some of her shirts, I can't help but look there and notice them, so I can imagine that boys do too. Eeeks! Periods! Oh, my, I'm just getting through this bra thing. I guess that will be next huh? Thank you for all your help, I've officially decided to take her this Sunday after church, just her and I, to get her first bra.

I do not remember that either. I remember more about mine than my daughter, because my mom put it off so long that all the girls in class(even the obviously flat ones ) had them before me. When my ten year younger sister went to junior high, I told mom to get her a bra, Mom said, "She doesn't need one" and then I told her how I had felt. I know my daughter developed more, and sooner than I did, and did not like that fact. She wore sports bras all of the time until she could not get away with it, because of a dance team she participated in. If at least half the girls the same age as your daughter are wearing bras, she needs one if she wants one. If she looks like she needs one, even slightly, get her one, or she will be teased for the way she looks.

I had a friend in school that needed a bra before all the rest of us girls and her mom finally got it for her. She was very embarrassed when people would stare or tease her about it. I'm going to go ahead and get Sydni her first one this weekend. I can't stop looking there when she puts certain shirts on. I look at her and my eyes go right there and I think to myself "if I'm looking and noticing it, then so are boys". So Sunday is the big day. Right after church I'm going to take her. Wish me luck!

I got my first bra in sixth grade. I really didn't wearing it but I was starting gym and my mother forced me to wear it. I try to get out of wearing it as much as I can but now I think back, I think I should have listened to my mother but the bra was really uncomfortable. If you think she is ready, you can buy her one. Some girls are excited to get their first bra.

You know, now that you mentioned that you were in the 6th grade, that sounds familiar. I'm thinking I was about that age too. (I'm only 40 but it just seems so long ago!). You said if I think she is ready to buy her one....I agree. I think I'm going to take her next weekend. And yep, she is excited about it. I'm not really excited, it means she is growing up! What's next? A car? eeeekkkkksss!

Hi waters1748, I just started buying my daughter training bras, she is only 8 yrs old. I only have one daughter so it feels horrible! I know how you feel. My 1st training bra was when I was 8 also and I guess she is growing fast like I did.
