Why do some people have dry scalp? Is it a genetic thing, or is it because of something environmental, such as frequency of washing, not drinking a lot of water, etc? What are the best products to deal with dry scalp?

try a shampoo for dry hair and/or dry scalp or dry flakes in hair. make sure it has natural ingredients, and it wasnt tested on animals.

My granddaughter has a problem with this....I was with her when she went to have her hair done....they told her that using too hot a water also has an effect on your scalp...so using tepid water is supposed to be much better then too hot a water!

Going into different weathers can sometimes cause dry scalp and its not just fromof course using gel or hairspray but just from not drinking enough water can produce this and i actually haven't his all the time and its called psoriasis and it is always itchy and not fun at all. You can use some some dandruff shampoo that comes in the blue bottle(forget the name) but its not cheap and you can use that just make sure its the moisturizing one that will help keep your scalp moisturized more.

I am no doctor and can't support my ideas with any facts, but I have heard that washing your hair too often can have one of two effects, either your scalp will dry out because you take the natural oils away or it will over produce the oils to compensate for over washing. It might just be that your scalp doesn't like your shampoo. I have the oily reaction to washing my hair too much, but I can' allow myself not to wash it every day, the idea bothers me. I use head and shoulders and it works pretty well. good luck with your scritchy scalp!

Underneath that hair is your scalp. The scalp is nothing more than skin. The skin has natural oils in it. When you use harsh chemicals on the hair it will automatic go to the scalp which in returns will dry it out. You need to use something that will put the oil back into the scalp. I have found that Rosemary Oil is very good for this. Just use about two to three drops od Rosemary with Avocado Oil and message into the scalp for 1 to 2 minutes a day. This will bring the oil back into the scalp, which eliminates the dry scalp.
