Its becoming fashionable for people to link fat and cola. Everyone likes to blame colas for making people fat. People have weird ideas like 'if your starting to diet, then start drinking diet cola'. The genius among them will say 'even diet cola is not healthy'. This started from the TV, then the newspaper, then health websites. Now this craziness is on Mylot as well. What about people who don't drink cola? Don't they get fat? Weren't people fat, even before cola was invented. Even vegetarians, who don't drink cola become fat. Its the amount of food one eats and less exercise which makes people fat. I guess after reading this article people will start blaming chocolate for making them fat.

It's getting to the point where you can't believe anything anymore....remember all the different types of sudden alerts like bacon causing cancer? Well turns out you have to eat a ton of it a day for it to have any effect.....same here....ten years down the line they will say...oh...it's okay to drink cola!

anything eatable in required quantum is good for health..the moment you increase the level to desirable..there is a disbalance and it automatically leads to metabolic disorder..so the quote of the day..."EAT WHAT IS NECESSARY..HEALTHY..TASTY..AND NEEDED TO KEEP YOU FIT.."

I think it should be blamed on family traits and metabolism. I am careful about what I eat. I do drink sodas, though I'm careful about the amount. Diet drinks cause more problems than just obesity. The articial sweeteners give me migraine headaches. They do to my mother, and my youngest daughter as well. (there's that heridity thing again). My son drinks Dr. Pepper all day long. He works outside at a golf course. He plays basketball, swims, and rides his bike. he is tall and lanky with not an ounce of fat on him anywhere.

Hey vanillarey! You are definitely right about the fact that it has more to do about how much you eat then it does about what you eat! Obviously if you eat large portions of food you are going to get fat no matter what kind of food you are eating! I have heard that drinking diet coke is bad for you, but I still drink lots of it! I have never been good at dieting or exercising! I gain weight, lose some, gain some more! But, I don't blame it on the food, I blame it on me!

Hi vanillarey, I hope that you are enjoying your cola and all the sugar in it doesn't have a bad effect of your teeth. People become fat by eating too much and not exercising enough. Personally I have never wanted to drink something which has nine teaspoons of sugar in each glass, it is pointless. It is empty calories and has more calories than an average meal. Personally I don't drink it, along with any other sugary drinks, because I don't like the taste, too sugary. Also, in a hot climate it is dehydradting to drink sugary drinks. But if drunk in large quantities it will indeed contribute to one being overweight as it is laden with calories.

I was told it is not the cola alone that makes you fat but it is the High calorie content. Some only drink a can or two a day..others can drink up to a 12 pack a day. Now that runs into alot of calories. I have a 24 ounce bottle of Dr.pepper and it says 3 servings per bottle at 100 calories per servings will equal 300 per bottle which means if someone drinks up to 2-3 a day they are running into some high calories..those calories plus food intake..someone could be taking in enough calories to gain almost a pound a day..especially if they aren't exercised off..So alot of couch potatoes will gain weight, while others who are more active don't. I once saw on DR.Phil..that someone who cuts out pop can lose 50 pounds a year without cutting their other foods as long as they don't consume more..SO people drink diet pop so they won't have those extra calories to contend with..

I think fat comes from eating too much food and not enough exercise also. I know alot of people who eat alot and they never gain any weight and do not exercise too though. It all depends on a persons metabolism also.

Hello my friend VANILLAREY Ji, I have wrongly posted as it is half complete. I further bring out in support of genes responsible for fattness as below. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/3352749/Scientists-find-fatness-gene.html "Scientists find fatness gene By Roger Highfield, Science Editor Published: 12:01AM BST 13 Apr 2007 More than half of the population carries a gene that makes people more likely to pile on the pounds, scientists announce today. They hope the discovery could eventually lead to treatments to help people lose excess weight they carry simply because of their genetic make-up. Obesity is associated with an increased risk of type 2 diabetes, heart disease and other medical problems and is rising in prevalence in most western countries, where at least 20 per cent of the population is clinically obese. The work - conducted over 15 years - indicates that some people are programmed to put on weight. New hope of treatments to bolster diet and exercise have emerged in recent years with the discovery of an "alphabet soup" of genes that influence obesity, from the way fat cells develop to the mechanisms that make us hungry. Today's announcement, in the journal Science by teams in Oxford and Exeter, is significant. Unlike previous work, it shows a very common genetic link with mild obesity rather than a rare genetic link with extreme obesity. The team of 42 scientists found that if people carry one copy of a variant in a gene called FTO, as does half of the general population, it will lead to a gain in weight of 2.6lb or put just over half an inch on their waists and raise their risk of being obese by one third. If people have two copies of this variant in the FTO gene, which is the case in one in six of the population, then they will gain almost 7lb more than those who lack the variation and are at a 70 per cent higher risk of obesity. In the future, once scientists have found additional obesity genes, it may be possible to offer advice based on a person's genetic make-up." MaY god bless You and have a great time.

I don't think cola can really makes us fat. The callories content is not so much. Usually people drink cola with some snacks. Perhaps cakes, or some sweet snacks. I think that snacks is the problem. So not really on cola. More over, there's diet cola on the market. It's suitable for diabetes people and for people who are dieting from over weight. But however, i don't believe if cola can make someone fat very easy. Don't drink it too much. However it's not good for our bones. So, instead blaming cola causing overweight, i prefer to say cola can damaging our bones. Good luck and have a nice day. Happy mylotting.

I don't think cola can make us fat. There are more than just cola to make people fat. I believe it's the amount of the foods you eat and exercises you did. The more you eat-the less you exercise then you're getting fat faster. I believe in that. Though, i don't exercise much. But drink cola too much is not good for your health either. Your teeth and your bone especially. I'd rather drink green tea than cola. Maybe you can try green tea instead of cola from now on.

I find that people link any other cola with Coca Cola and assume that they all have the same calorie content. That is just so wrong.

It's the idea of being thin that people create hype on things such as cola can make you fat. True, cola has a lot of sugar and you do have to burn out that sugar so that it does not turn into body fat. But being fat does not result from drinking cola alone. A lot of people who are fat have problems with their metabolism or hormonal imbalances. I have a hormonal imbalance which was detected ten years ago. This was the time where I started gaining weight even if i did not eat, exercised till I dropped or used diet pills. It was my gynecologist who found the culprit because I had PCOS. All diets are fads. People will blame anything or anyone. I recall one weird news report of some teenagers who sued four known fast food restaurants because these restaurants was the reason that they were fat.

Eating habits are hard to change. Diets have been so popular for years and years. It is just now that people are beginning to realize there is no magic pill. You have to exercise and take in less. This includes eating the right foods and the most nutritious.

I guess calories are calories and regardless of where they come from too many will make you fat! I guess drinking a lot of cola can be an easy way to gain weight because a lot of folks may not be aware of how many calories are in one glass. I drink the diet variety and I much prefer it.

Its actually the lifestyle that gives a person his shape. Its all in the lifestyle. And when we say lifestyle, this how you manage your life. How you eat, how you interact, your activities of daily living.. and everything. Being fat is mostly associated with your diet and exercise, but is also associated with your genetic makeup. Even if you have healthy lifestyle, if your origins are full of adipose, then most probably you are too. Cola and chocolates, or any other high sugar containing foods are not bad at all. But remember, any excess is not healthy. We need moderation. And we should not just depend on dietary modification, but also with our activity..

I don't think cola can help make you fat. I guess it depends on the amount you drink every day. If you only drink a small amount then its okay. Plus there are different other foods that can make you fat and the amount of exercise you do in a day. Some people exercise a lot and other exercise very little.
