Seems that Henry Sy is not to be dislodged from his post as the richest in the Philippines. Despite of the global crisis, his worth soared to $3.8 billion compared to last year's $3.1 billion. Last year's list compared to this year is almost the same with John Gokongwei and Tony Tan Caktiong switching the 5th and 6th places. Senator Villar was not in the last years's list. But now he made it, making him the 9th richest in the Philippines with a whooping $530 million. Whew, I couldn't count the number of zeros anymore.

No doubt Henry Sy would be the richest person in the Philippines. He have put up a lot of SM malls and have gone from the city to towns and provinces. But you know what, he can be the richest person but he is also the reason why some provinces and towns economy have gone down. Putting up an SM mall in provinces can destroy the business of local businessmen and women. I know this cause we have experienced it in our town. That's why some towns have opposed on Henry Sy's proposal to put up SM mall at their place. People also hasn't noticed that SM is taking away our money every payday and bonuses. So surely he will get richer and richer when everyone is just well, spending their money on SM malls. This is reality. Ciao!

It's ok.. Maybe that's just how business goes. You can't beat the titans of business industry. It's just hard to beat them.

Well, one thing I can say about him, he's really shrewd. He has some business tactics that are somewhat unethical. I don't have proof of it and I am just basing it on hearsay. One question you can ask him when you get to meet him, and that is - are you happy?

You are right . Henry Sy of SM has gone a long way. BDO is under the umbrella Of Henry Sy. Money begets money. Of course it is from hard work , good financial investment and having a good business acumen.

I think that these people that we can rich became rich because they planned well enough for their investment, meet with the appropriate people, and very good in business projection. I read a story about Manny Villar even he was a still a pure entrepreneur and far away from politics, and I was amazed on how he was able to project that a piece of land can be very expensive and profitable years after. Yes, some may call it luck but I think it's your strategy and feasibility study before you invest on something that really matters. I just hope most Filipinos can think the way business people think, and I am pretty sure the economy of our country will grow. Thanks!

Luck combined with hard work. I remember a story that an ordinary Filipino would tell a child, study hard so can you find a good company to work for. Chinese or with Chinese blood would tell a child, study hard so that you can put up your own business. No offense meant to us Filipinos of course.

Henry Sy are richer this year because of SM and other companies that he owns. I think he should share his fortune it to his employees. If only I can be like them but sad to say I'm not and I'm jealous to their fortune. Even if they are rich in this world they can't bring it when they die. Why not donating some of their fortune to the less fortunate people.

that's true. despite of his controversies and some other debts that he has, he's still one of the riches man in the philippines. but i wonder, how long can he enjoy his money if he's already that old. those two other rich peoplea re getting old too, i hope they do have enough time..to share their blessings..more before they die

Henry Sy sets a fine example for every Filipino. We may not accomplish what he has achieved at least we must do our level best to improve our individual standard of living.

Henry Sy's retail business is still the best business as consumers will always buy consumer goods in SM supermarket, hypermarkets and will always go to SM malls to forget their problems by watching in SM cinema and eating their favorite food at the SM foodcourt. I noticed recently that SM's condominiums and residential businesses are sprouting everywhere. So Henry Sy's business is the necessities in life and it will never diminish but only increase in sales.
