Would you return the money or keep it yourself?

A moral question I have to ask. If you saw a $20 bills on the floor at a restaurant, or hotel, or your workplace, would you pick it up, return it to the front desk, let them find the rightful owner of that money bill? Or would you rather keep it yourself for yourself, since no one knows. It is a moral question you have to ask yourself honestly.

If in a restaurant and hotel I will not give it to the front. Because it is not too much money, and no information for that. Even you give it to the front is no use to find the onwer. I think I will keep it and later give it to the fund for poor children. The poor children need the money. Happy mylot!

I´m sure that if I turn it over to the front desk it will end in the pocket of the person at the desk. It´s different if you lose a passport or an ID. I would keep it unless I see someone nearby desperatly looking at the floor.

If no one really notice they are losing the money at the moment? What would do you then? Keep it forever, or pretend that it was yours after while?

There is no doubt that I will keep it to myself as now its my money because I found it. Ya if there someone coming & searching for something, then I'll definitely ask them & return it or else I'll keep it as a gods gift!.

wow, that is another honest answer. For me, I probably would do the same too. But if someone desperately looking for it. I will return it no doubt.

In these hard times, more than likely I would keep the $20.why? because more than likely whoever you turn the money into is going to do nothing more but put it into their pocket. So save yourself the high hopes and keep it.

You are honest, and if you keep it yourself, would you be comfortable about doing it? What if the same thing happen to you, if you lost $20, and that also mean hopelessly to find it.

I would return it to the front desk. And, yes, that's my honest answer.

No doubt or hesitating, will return it. Say if it's a public place and you can't ding the owner (read: without any identity), I'd rather give the money to beggars. There's no good of using something not belongs to you. Do small deeds will result you in bigger blessings :)

In a restaurant or hotel I would without doubt turn it over to the front desk. It could be money that someone desparatley needs to pay their tab or it could be a hard earned tip. I would not feel right at all putting it in my pocket. At my workplace, it is different. I work in a very busy store and on occasion people do drop money. Our policy is that we hold it for a couple of days just in case the person comes back. If it is more than 20.00, my boss holds it longer. I have found a wad of cash...someone's entire paycheck a couple of times. Both times the person came back in a panic.

I will keep it because i doubt that the person on a front desk will return it to the true owner... If i give it to the person on a front desk, there still a possible that they will keep it for their own too...

honestly, for me it would depend intirely on the situation. If I found the money at a restaurant underneath a table or near a table I would give it to the restaurant manager an ask them if they could contact the person who was at the table before me (if they payed by credit card or made a reservation or something). however, if I found it in a open place like a hotel lobby or a park that maybe hundreds of people walk through in a day I would keep it because who would even have an idea of who in the hundreds of people droped the money. ps. as a side note I can honestly say that if I didn't want the money or need it at the time (or felt guilty taking it), I would give it to the next charity I came across. and Guilt erased because the other persons hardship if it was a hardship now is turned into something good for somebody else.

I would ask if a waitress didnt get a tip from the table I found it from, then give it to her. If they got tips then I'd keep it, sinse the place would know if they were missing 20$ and would have talked to the customers.

If I found it in a public place, like a restaurant and had no idea who dropped it; I'd keep it. If I saw someone drop it; I'd give it back. Same for if I found a wallet or pocketbook; I'd look up the owners name and return it. They key for me; is knowing whose it is---I worked in those places and the staff loved 'found' money, because it became theirs.

If there was hope on finding the owner of the money I would turn it in. If the $20 was just on the floor and it would be impossible to be able to find out whose money it is, Then I would keep it. If I found an envelope with lots of moeny, I would for sure turn that in, If I lost lots of moeny I would want someone to be honest and turn it in too.

This has happened to me a couple times. Once, in a gas station parking lot my aunt found $100. She asked around to the only people around and they all said it wan't theirs. She has plenty of money and knows that I'm struggling, so she gave it to me. Another time, I was a little more dishonest about it. My mom had taken me to a really nice restaurant for dinner and I was flat broke. I wasn't even sure I had enough gas to make it back home. A man sitting at the bar paid his tab and got up to leave. I had been eyeballing a twenty dollar bill under his chair. After he left, I excused myself to the bathroom, pretended to drop something and picked up the $20. I did feel a little bad, but I REALLY needed the cash. I justified it by thinking that since I really, REALLY needed it, maybe it was a gift from god. I probably should have given it back, but I just couldn't bring myself to do the right thing since I was in such a mess financially.

I would keep it for myself I think. Like previous responders said, if I'd return it to front desk, people at the front desk would definitely put it into their pockets, so I would look for a chance to give it back to owner myself. If I would be unable to find the owner, I would just put some of the money into good use and store the other part somewhere, in case the owner of the money will be found.

infact i have a particularly peculiar experience. i once did pick up the bill, but that was followed by some misfortune in which i lost exactly the same amount. i don't think i am superstitious but i did learn my lesson - what is not mine should not be taken. i do return the money. as to where the money goes after that is not for me to reason. i do my part and am at peace with it.

That's a real moral question you've offered, and I guess almost most of the people would return it to the front desk, and let them find the rightful owner, cause that's a little money, and it isn't worthy of taking it as yours, you give it back and maybe you could feel pleased to do like that.
