Hangers! T-Shirts! And Ironing! What do you think?

Here's an interesting one for you all! I wear all kinds of different T-Shirts with jeans so I'm more commonly known as the jeans and T-Shirt man! I hardly wear anything else! Here's the thing, after I have washed my T-Shirts I generally just shove them in my chest of draws as they are or I may hang them up on a hanger but this probably sounds pointless as I never iron them! Do you iron your T-Shirts? I sometimes notice that there are a few creases and lines but nothing too serious. There is a time though when I return to ironing and that is when I buy or purchase a brand new T-Shirt, then I treat it like a prize possession and I make sure it's always neat! So, what's your take on this? Are you bothered about walking down the street in a T-Shirt that is not ironed? Believe me, I'm generally of smart appearance when it comes to dress but I get a bit lazy when it comes to ironing! Thoughts if you please!!!!!Andrew

Hi Andrew... Before, when I don't have an ironlady in the house, the t-shirts that we used inside the house are just washed and put on hangers to dry, because i am lazy when it comes to ironing clothes. Since I have an iron lady who I pay for washing and ironing clothes, all our clothes, whether it is used in the house or office, are all ironed-out. Its pleasing to wear creaseless clothes or shirts for me.

I can definitely relate to you on this one! I am quite lazy myself when it comes to any form of ironing. I like the idea of paying someone to do the ironing nowadays and they offer this service at my local drycleaners. I don't think that it is too expensive either. Well, I make take them up on that offer! Andrew

Hi, Andrew. With my own family now, I still continue to iron T-shirts and all other pieces of clothing, except for those worn as "house dresses". When I was still single and younger and living with my parents and other siblings, I was the "iron lady" of the house and have grown to be very good in that skill, lol. I guess that is the only house work that I excel. I am really bothered walking down the street with an unironed T-shirt or jeans or skirt (even our underwears are ironed for hygienic purposes. To me, I am never complete going to the office, walking down to the mall, and much more going to church with an unironed T-shirt, skirt or jeans and it is always neat, smart and presentable without those creases!

I guess you're not going to believe this but I really do take pride in my appearance! The way I have created this discussion it probably sounds like I have never ironed ever! Well, I will take the iron out very very occasionally, perhaps for a special occasion let's say! It's not an activity I want to spend a long time doing though! Andrew. Oh! Welcome to My Lot by the way

hello AndrewFreyne, My wife used to iron my T-shirts too but since our electricity bill is getting much so she stops ironing them anymore. Besides that is additional work load too. So what she does is to fold them at once when they get dry. By the way, we're just hanging our clothes and put them under the sun to have them dry. Hanging the T-shirts with hangers sometimes will leave some marks so better if you fold them. It's not good to look at especially when the hangers are not in good quality or maybe too big or too small for the T-shirts.

yes, I sometimes experience that with the hangers. I notice that a hanger is either too small or too large. If it's too large then I have to pull at the t-shirt neck line and this stretches it. I still like the idea of filling my chest of draws in a matter of seconds! Andrew

Oh.. I am a girl but I do wear t-shirts and not iron them. I am not meticulous about these things. I do see a lot of people wearing clothes with a lot of creases on it and it's obviously not ironed so it doesn't matter to me. But I do hang or fold my shirts nicely so as to avoid formation of too many creases. And usually cotton shirts, well they don't need to be ironed at all. But if I am going to a formal event or meeting important people, of course I dress up appropriately. Ciao!

Yes. Like here in the Philippines people just hire maids to do the ironing and the washing of clothes.

Yes, that makes sense, formal occasions and the like, I too share your thoughts on this. Ironing no doubt is a really boring pastime. I have much better things to do and I'm also thinking that if there was a ton of ironing to do then I would probably pay for a service, this happens in a lot of places now I've heard. Well, that's life. Andrew

Hi Andrew, well sometimes we can get those kinds of t-shirts which look ironed straight from the washing line whilst others look like an iron is in order. The confusing thing about this of course is that they are both made from the same sort of t-shirt material. Now personally I loathe any form of housework including ironing but do tend to suffer through it rather than go out in crumpled clothes. I had thought I'd hit on the perfect solution a couple of weeks ago when my son expressed a desire to learn how to iron and the first time had great fun with it. He only managed to do it one more time before expressing complete boredom with the activity so I'm back to the usual position of putting it off until it's necessary. You'll find a vast number of t-shirts helps out with this problem.

Well hello thea, nice to be chatting with you once again. I remember once upon a time when I showed exactly the same enthusiasm for this task and yet this seems to have diminished, a lot time ago infact! Well, I guess I like to look smart when I go out and so I'm thinking that I should just grind my teeth and get on with it! Ironing is not the end of the world! Andrew

Indeed it is not Andrew, it's much worse to mop the floors and try to wash up with only a trickle of water. On the bright side though just imagine if you insisted on wearing shirts.

Yeah I do iron T-Shirts...I wash and dry them and try to keep them folded neatly. It always seem that when I put them away sometime or another they end up getting some wrinkles in them. The T-Shirt wrinkle monster has attacked. I have to get the iron out to run away the wrinkle monster. This seems to happen everytime I decide to wear that T-Shirt from the drawer. Usually don't hang up T-Shirts. Maybe I should. This could possible keep the T-Shirt Monster from visiting.

Hi rosepedal, this all seems like a tremendous task to me! I wish I had more enthusiasm for the task of ironing! It's just so easy to take my t-shirts out of the wash, hang them up, wait until they are dry and then get dressed quickly regardless of the wrinkles! If I'm meeting up with someone for the first time though, maybe a total stranger then I think that I would make more of an effort to iron the wrinkles out of my T-Shirts. Nice talking to you again. There are several T-Shirts in my wardrobe and the thought to hang them up after they are washed and dryed, just sounds like a lot of work for me. I guess we have something in common. We both always look for the easy way. I don't mind to do that do you? Have a good day...

Yes, I have quite a few that I only wear around my flat and I never wear them outside exposed to the outside world! I don't like the task of ironing though plain and simple! The constant movement backwards and forwards of the iron, so vexing! There's also that constant steam that seems to penetrate my nostrils and this makes me gag! Oh well. Andrew

I rarely iron. I take t shirts out of the dryer while they're still damp and put them on a hanger. I don't think anyone should have creases in their jeans....I can't remember why i have an iron.....

I've heard that this is sometimes a good idea, to take clothes out of the dryer whilst they are still damp and then hang them up on a hanger, this then supposedly takes the wrinkles and lines out and when the item is eventually dry it really looks ok. Well, I have never tried that anyhow. Jeans are a really strange piece of clothing as I hardly ever notice any creases or no major creases anyhow when I pull them out of the washing machine. Let me guess, your iron is beginning to gather dust like my own? Well, I'm glad that my iron still works to tell you the truth! I just blow the dust off and get ironing with any new t-shirts that I buy. Andrew

I've hung shirts up on a hanger that were damp and it does take the wrinkles out as they dry. I rarely do this because they feel stiff. I try to get shirts out of the dryer as soon as they're dry, before the dryer cools down. No wrinkles.

Hello Andrew. I have a lot of hangers for my shirts, T-shirts, jeans, casual pants, sweaters and so on. I always hang them in my wardrobe to make sure that they look nice when I wear them. I used to iron my clothes a lot before getting married and sometime after getting married. But gradually I feel lazy ironing them any more. I just let my clothes the way they are by using those hangers to make them look nice and neat.

That sounds reasonable! I don't like ironing much although when I am going out somewhere and meeting up with others I will tend to make the effort now. I won't normally spend longer than five minutes ironing a shirt or two of them! Andrew

Hi Andrew, I hate ironing, really detest it! So if I can get away without ironing even a single item of clothing, I would. So I can't imagine ironing tshirts or jeans! I usually take them out of the washing machine immediately and hang them up to dry - that way, they get less creased.

I guess we are of the same mind on that one! It's unfortunate but I just don't have the space to take clothes out of the washing machine and hang them up to drip dry! I live in a one bedroom flat and space is limited. When I do any form of ironing I struggle to place the ironing board somewhere but eventually I get there! I hope that some new technology is invented in terms of never having to iron anymore! Andrew

Back in 'the old days' (LOL) when I wore jeans and T-shirts I never ironed them. I always folded them neatly. That way they didn't have any lines or creases in them. Purrs, Catwoman=^..^= & Mija

Well, I guess the folding technique could work although I have never tried that one! I have started getting the iron out once again now though as I recently bought some new t shirts and I really do want to look after them and make sure they always look good. Andrew

Hi Andrew, my trick is to drip dry everything and hang it out on hangers. They take a little longer to dry but it has cut my ironing right down. The only things I iron these days are business shirts everything else gets drip dried! The clothes drier works well at removing creases too if you don’t mind using the electricity.

That's a good trick unfortunately it's not one that I can indulge in without soaking my place! I don't have the space in my flat but I sure would love to do that if it meant that I would not have to worry about ironing anymore. I do focus on the electricity usage and sometimes that enters my mind! I ask questions like, 'Do I really need to iron this?' 'Perhaps I can save on the juice!' Well, I'm accepting it as a task that I need to do on special occasions only. Andrew

I always iron the tshirts of my son. I envy my daughter who's not ironing the tshirt of her husband, just hang it after washing and then ready to wear. Reading your post, I will do it my self now no more ironing of tshirts. I could save more time if I do.

I do iron my T-shirts, for two reasons - they look better and you can more in a drawer when they've been ironed. If you use a tumble dryer and hang them up straight away, they don't usually need ironing. I very rarely use a dryer, preferring to dry things outside on the line, but my dryer is very old and shrinks most things anyway - so putting T-shirts in it is a bad idea!

Yes, I agree with you that t-shirts look better when they are ironed however I think that I have just lost the habit, I tend not to care as much, maybe this is the wrong attitude I don't know but it certainly works for me. I have certainly had a problem with shrinking t-shirts in the past but this relates to my washing machine being extra hungry! My chest of draws tends to be crammed full of t-shirts and sometimes it's hard to pull a t-shirt out. I may or may not put my iron to good use once again, at the moment it really is acting like a paper weight! Andrew

Well, if you're happy with not ironing that's great. I wouldn't if I could get away with it! Unfortunately, I have no hanging space left, and couldn't fit any more t-shirts in the drawers if they weren't ironed.

I am also a smart dresser like you but I really hate ironing my clothes so the best way I deal with it, after I have washed my clothes I don't wring it. I just let it hang on a hanger to dry so that it will not be wrinkled once it gets dry. Even my office clothes and dresses aren't being ironed but it looks good as well.

Everyone seems to be talking about this drip dry process, I have never tried that although it sounds like a good strategy to try for the first time. I have so many t-shirts and it really seems like a laborious task ironing them all at the same time. Still, I feel content with the way I do things. Andrew

Ah! I'm sure that's called the iron dance I'm sure that there are a lot of people that really don't enjoy ironing and I certainly am one of them! I will iron a t-shirt if I have to though, meeting someone for the first time perhaps, meeting a new friend and so forth! Otherwise my iron is not being put to good use! Nice chatting with you. It's really nice that you have someone to iron your clothes for you. My local drycleaners offers this service for a charge although I have never taken up the offer. Once upon a time I used to work in the city and I was all suited and booted, crisp white ironed shirts and the like, well that is history now! I forget the effort I had to go to back then when ironing my shirts! My jeans I'm not too bothered about! They seem to be just fine after a few hours of wearing them. Andrew

Laugh if you will, but I just went out yesterday and bought an iron and ironing board so that my nicer t-shirts could be ironed if they were wrinkled, and I could iron my kids' school clothes, most of wich are t-shirts and jeans. I think that the difference is just in appearance. I want my kids to look and feel better, and have more pride in their things. I do not like it when I take the time to wash, dry, and hang or fold their clothes to help avoid the wrinkles just to see them wearing a shirt that looks horrible due to the wrinkles. My main pet peeves with a t-shirt is a wrinkle collar, sleeves, and bottom that is not tucked in. I want those specific areas to look better. At first, my husband laughed at me for ironing t-shirts, until he saw the difference. Now, he understands as well.

Yes, ironed t-shirts certainly look better and far neater! Ironing for me is a task but if I have to do it I will. Ironing only takes what, five minutes to iron one shirt perhaps, maybe not even that long. If and when I iron I only iron one piece of clothing at a time! That's nice that you have just bought a brand new iron with ironing board though. I guess I need to do something like that myself but my iron still works although the cloth on my ironing is coming off a little! Andrew

Hello friend I am not particular in ironing clothes as long as it would not be crumpled to look when you wear it around. But if it would just be in the house I would not bother to iron it anymore. Not only that, I am the one doing our laundries which I hated most compared to all amongst house chores. Honestly I prefer to ironed clothes than washing clothes...yes...thanks

I used to iron on a regular basis when I was working in security, I had to constantly iron my uniform as we had to dress so smart! That period in my life is over now though and I'm glad about that. It's not too much of a hassle nowadays when I only have to iron a t-shirt or two. Andrew
