Suicidal Thoughts - How do you get rid of it?

You read in the papers about people taking their own lives; some people have this thought consistently. People kill themselves for being in debt, for doing badly in the exam, for losing a loved one. Age is not a factor. Why does it happen? If you have thought of doing it, how did you stop yourself from thinking about it?

Personally i have been through in this situation once and it is hard to overcome it alone and i feel very weak to face life and doing it is the only option i can think that time. That time i realize it was a stupid action and i feel like a coward if i did that because god gives me lives and i dont want it while many others are fighting for their lives. I still thinking of doing it sometimes but i am thankful to have a very supportive family and boyfriend that helps me throughout lifes. I also start to pray and getting close to God..it gives me peace. Praying is the best thing to do to get rid of it.

I think sometimes you have to step away from the voices in your head, and literally change the tape. Sometimes I think that we get into mental ruts, and we can really abuse ourselves, just by what we tell ourselves, or what other people might tell us. If you can't disconnect from the negative thoughts, I have found professional help to be wonderful. Talking to someone who is objective can help you put your personal situation perspective. And finally, medication might help. I know that some people put a stigma on mental health as a real medical issue, but it is, and many people suffer needlessly. Bottom line, talk to someone if these thoughts persist. It will help.

I think most people have thought of this at one time or another in their life. I have but what stops me is the pain and suffering I would put my loved ones thru. Its a very selfish thing to do and I wouldn't be able to go thru it. I wouldn't want my parents or my daughters to suffer. So that is what would stop me.

Luckily, I have never had thoughts about it. Life is beautiful. Thou I have problems from time to time, which is just normal, I thought that it will go away, and it is just a phase. I have always been praying for guidance. I think that it is the only way for us to get rid of those thoughts.

I think about how it will hurt my family, I also think of it as a sin. After a while the feeling passes I usually have those feelings after my husband starts in on me. Telling me how useless and worthless I am. I know I'm not but still sometimes it takes every ounce of energy just to stop thinking those thoughts.

I think alot of people do this as they have not been to see a dr for help and they think this is the only way out. They do not consider anyone else when they get to that stage and therefore go ahead and do it and if they do not succeed they try and try until they do succeed. The only thing that stop some people from doing this is the fact they have children.
