An interesting discovery about babywipes!

I'm not sure what to think about this.. I had a pile of wipes one of the kids pulled out of the package on the floor, and i was mid cleaning when it happened.. in the kitchen. So i take the wipe and start wiping the stove (you know that grease layer that builds up if you neglect cleaning the back of the stove) and holy moley! the baby wipe takes it off better then the mr clean wipes, better then even the magic eraser.. I am happy that i found something that cleans well.. but .. WHATS IN THERE THAT MAKES IT WORK SO WELL? And now i'm thinking.. do i want to be using it to wipe the kids hands.. after all they do put them in their mouths! Have you had any lightbulb moments lately ? or perhaps like me, a discovery you are unsure if your happy or frightened of!? oh and.. how often do you clean the back of the stove.. i mean where the dials are..

I pull the knobs off the panel about once a month and it's never really bad because I do so very little frying. I've always been a person to think as you just did about how safe something is knowing the big job it does besides. My biggest concern was the birth control pill.

I live in an apartment grandmaof2, i think someone superglued the knobs on before i moved in because i had the same stove in another apartment and they came off, but these ones do not.. what kinda knob would glue on a knob!? I hated taking the pill too.. i didn't take it long, and i only tried the needle version once too.. horrible things.. made my body do weird things!

they are safe i asked my childrens dr a long time ago because i was afraid of the same thing , some of the things that are in there are in food as well , as long as the child is not eating or sucking on the wipes its fine ,

YOu know what? I once saw a mother wipe her toddler's hand with a wet wipe and let him play with it later. The mother is so engrossed eating that she didn't realise her toddler is actually stuffing that wet wipe into his mouth. Only after much later did she realise it! It is so scary. He might have choked!

thanks for sharing. Do you clean them weekly ? or monthly ? or like some others have responded (and i should do) clean them everytime you cook/clean the top of the stove ?

I keep babywipes in my craft room....they clean up paint very well off little fingers and glass etc.....so I have a stash of them in there.....I just cleaned my stove good as I had company...but I use orange cleaner from the dollar store for that.....takes off anything!

i try to stay away from weird brands of things in the dollar store.. like the food/cleaners/wipes/toys.. a lot gets by regulations, cause i was on the american recall site (i'm canadian) looking for something for an american friend, and the dollerstore had a lot of toys recalled because of waht they called "excessive" amounts of lead in the paint.. so i have to wonder. i do though buy the smaller format name brands they sometimes sell.. those cute little dishsoap bottles are so fun!

Hey Sissy! I do know what you mean! And I'm sure that they wouldn't have them made for the kids if there was anything in them that was too strong for the kids knowing that kids put their little hands in their mouths! I have used things that are meant for one thing and used them for another something like you are doing and they ended up working incredibly well! I wouldn't really worry that the baby wipes clean so well! I would wonder why the stuff that is made for the cleaning doesn't!

yea.. the babywipes company should cash in on this, and add some cleaning fragrance in it and market it for kitchen/dusting under another name.. kind of like how colgate and palmolive are the same company.. but if everyone knew that do you think you would brush your teeth with the toothpaste that came from the same factory as your dish soap ? lol it acually has teh name of the company on the backs of the toothpaste Colgate-Palmolive. I guess if everyone read the everything in their bathroom like i do.. we would all know!

sometimes things you dont expect to be toxic are.. and sometimes you really dont have much choice.. i mean.. laundry detergent is toxic.. but you gotta use that unless you wantn your clothes to stink dont you ? hah i have tried that all natural stuff.. cause of a medical condition i had, and i didn't find it worked very well.. luckily the laundry detergent wasn't the cause of the irritation!

It does make you wonder. It also cleans glass pretty well in an emergency also. I clean the top of my stove everytime I wipe the stove.

I'm not sure what kind of babywipes your using but most are made with water, washing liquid and lotion. I'll have to try them on my stove. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS**

twoey when they where little i used the pampers sensitive ones, but now a day, i go cheaper cause i also babysit and i'd go broke wiping butts with those expensive ones haha. Walmart brand ones. parents choice wipes. about half the price for 100 more wipes then the pampers brand. woot.

That IS both interesting and scary indeed. While it's nice to find a new cheaper alternative, when it comes to wiping those behinds and their little hands... I'd do some research, maybe NOT ALL WIPES clean that well... I can't think of any discovery of mine own though.

Hi there Sissygrl That was the first thing I thought of when I started to read your dicussion. If that is what babywipes will do grease and grime what does it do to baby's bottoms? Oh my, the thought is not good huh? I still use wipes on my kids even though they are 4, 6 and 8, they sometimes get sick in the car and I can't always stop immediately so they can mop themselves up with the wipes. Unfortunately I haven't had the pleasure of having any lightbulb moments of late, fresh out!! Oh and I don't have dials on the back of my cooker!!

Wow, thanks for the tip! I hate the magic eraser, it doesn't work for me. Yeah, I'd think twice before wiping the kids faces and hands with that wipe now, too!

The magic eraser.. its neat, and it works on a lot of things.. but it doesn't work so well on grease. . and if you are using it on something else that's slightly abrasive, it falls apart.. also if you have cheap paint on your walls (my super painted the walls not me, and choose a nice BROWN colour.{nice being sarcastic}) it rubs the paint as well as the crayon off the wall!

Ive used them to remove make up,spill from on clothing and remove dirt from sneakers. I've seen people use the baby wipe containers to store things in too.

Another very interesting discovery is something that I learned from my father about expired birth control pills. My father was a Physician's Assistant for the Federal Bureau of Prisons. When I was younger, my mom had all kinds of plants in the house. When they weren't growing so well, my dad would bring home expired packets of birth control pills and tell my mom to dissolve them in water and then use that to water the plants. It fertilizes them somehow. It always struck me as weird that something that was supposed to stop fertility in humans helped the plants to grow.

wow now i learned two things today!! but i dont think i'll ever have expired birth control pills laying around the house.. my tubes are tied.. which i have another discussion about if you wanna check out my profile lol. polo - wow, another use for the babywipe! my friend dusts with them, and then i started too, but i really was shocked it too off the greasy buildup.

Wow thats really amazing about those birth control pills! Baby wipes are great for cleaning all kinds of stuff, they really are multi purpose, they clean stainless steel pretty well too, brings up a lovely shine.

I love baby wipes and usually use them to take my make up off as they claim to be 'gentle'. Not so sure about this if they can remove a layer of grease, thats rather scary.

I don't know what the secret is, and I've never tried that, but I'm now starting to think that my husband and I need to get some baby wipes to use to clean up the kitchen. They'd sure be a lot safer too for a family with people and animals in it, because a lot of those cleaning supplies can be downright dangerous!!! thanks for sharing this amazing discovery.
