Today is the harvest festival of my state. I couldn't go home due to some work. I feel so bad to work on this day. My family is celebrating the day by cooking great lunch and taking part in games. I wish I were there to add color to their celebration. I don't feel like working; I can't concentrate.

Can't you take leave for the day to participate in the celebration?Couldn't you plan a vacation for the Onam festival earlier so that you can be in your home town enjoying the colors of the celebration?I don't miss any festivals like that and my family members will expect me a lot.Cheers!

It is great that you always get opportunity to celebrate festivals with family. Now, the work is going on at a high pitch. I applied for leave two weeks ago, but it was not sanctioned. So, I went home during the last weekend to spend sometime with my family for Onam. Only two days and it was not enough, a lot of time sept for travelling.

It is really bad that you can't get leave to be there in your home town on a special event which comes once in a year.Anyhow you managed to spend some days with your family earlier.Well,we have to look after our career too and we have to face some hardships like this.Cheers!

i wish to thank the superior for not sanctioning unnecessary leaves. Its all a waste of time and money celebrating festivals. Anyway the topic creator is not a small kid to enjoy. Wish the boss give ovetime duty today.

Yes I can understand how disgusting it is to be away from home especially on festival days, I have experienced this many a times, as my inlaws never used to let me any functions at my parents place, I used to brood and cry all alone, I have somhow overcome all this now, You cannot avoid it sometimes due to work load also, be prepared for the next unpcoming festival. Just forget and finish your work fast to enjoy time with them over the phone or net.

Yes, it is a very sad situation. It is kind of soothing after goijg through all the responses I got for this discussion. I came to know that everybody go thorugh similar situations. I don't want to miss the next festival - Christmas. My husband is coming to India to celebrate Christmas with me and my family. I have to plan leave in advance. Thanks for the response.

For me, It depends on what the festival is. Mostly our festivals are celebrated worldwide so I feel happy & sad. Happy to celebrate it with my friends & I feel sad because I miss my parents. Happy Lotting

Cheer up! Don't really feel bad about this. When ever you feel homesick think of those who don't have a home to think about at all or thse who are humans like you and me but cannot afford to celebrate festivals Be happy for all those who are there for you at the time when you need their support. Wish all and be happy :) - Happy Onam

I miss home when i am away during festivals. But once you are married and have your own family it is difficult to get back home for any festival. I feel sad and think of those days when we sisters alongwith our parents had a great time during the festivals. But the more i think the more i feel bad. So i try to bring the festivity in my place so that i can enjoy it with my family and children.

Hi, I have experienced this situation for 5 long years.Very rarely I used to make it to be with my family that too only for big festivals like Diwali.I never got my leave sanctioned. I had to sanction leave for my subordinates. So I had to stay .Now I am happily settled with my family. For you I can imagine how hard it is. Have a nice day

That is sad. It is nice to hear that you are enjoying your retired life with family. Now, you don't have to worry about taking leaves and sanctioning leaves when it comes to festivals, instead you have to worry about whether your children will get leave on festivals to celebrate with you. Thanks for the response. Congrats for getting star 9.

Hi there. I think its awesome that your state has harvest festivals. I know if I were in that situation, I would really love to be there among my family in friends instead of being stuck in work while my heart and mind is with the family and the festivities. But then sometimes it is hard, trying to juggle work and time off, especially in these times. I would probably end up leaving work, it would drive me crazy not to be able to focus, because the my mind wouldnt be settled it would be somewhere else. Have a great day anyway....

It is the most horrible thought i dont want to think, but i always make it a point that if not the small festivals then i visit my house on our bigger festivals because i want to be with ym family always, i hate staying here alone from them lonely just to study and earn some stupid bucks, i seriously dont like it anymore, but my daddy will shout at me if i behave that way that is why i have to be here.:(
