Hello, I am currently interested in the construction of 'earth friendly' homes. Particularly the ADOBE type. Well the adobe homes are to my understanding, made of either bricks or rammed earth (mixture of straw and earth mainly). I am a natralist and I am very interested in these type of projects. I also like art and craft, so you see where I am in my thinking. Any way I was curious as to persons who might be interested in these issues. Whether you like me are interested, but have not done this type of project as yet, or you are involved in this type of project. If so I would like to have some ideas on what I could do to start a project like this. Also what project are you involved in? Sharon

I am quite interested in these things and did some research and bought some tools to get started but then life got in the way. My favorite such project that is ongoing and open to the public, though, is that of the late Nader Khalili, whose work is feature on the CalEarth site: http://calearth.org/galleries/eco-dome.html I guarantee you will be awed.

I did construction in Sun Valley Idaho about 20 years ago and worked on a bunch of solar, and different types of earth friendly homes! I was always interested in this type of construction, I used to subscribe to "Mother Earth News!" it is a great resource for this! Heres another link to a great resource:http://oikos.com/ I've gotten plans from them for a solar adobe home I plan to build in Mexico where I currently live! It's very easy to build a roof unit to get hot water for all your needs including a hot tub! LOL! The solar electric units have come down in price a lot over the last year, but the batteries are still very expensive. I'm in a good area for the solar adobe home, but adobe is hard to find any more, New Mexico now is the hot spot for these types of home! I've written other responses on this topic, maybe you could do a mylot search for them! tdemex
