Do you think it would be better if the Opposition will only have one candidate?

As Senator Mar Roxas stated, he withdraw his candidacy to give way for Noynoy and he strongly suggest that the Opposition should only have one candidate. Let's admit it, there are some opposition candidates who are qualified to be a president and they also have a lot of supporters. With this, do you think it would be better if the Opposition will have only one candidate? Or it is better if they are many so that the public will have a lot of choices? No hurting words, please.

I remeber during the Snap Election of 1985 (or was it in 1986)... when there was only Cory Aquino and Ferdinand Marcos who ran for President (not including the nuisance candidates)... it was exciting then... and the people was not that divided into choosing who they want to vote for as President... Having a lot of Presidentiable is quite confusing... especially to those who are not that educated... the selection process is quite hard and that situation is so open to a lot of election fraud... Having only two candidates is not the perfect scenrio for a democratic country... but times like this calls for only two so that there will only be one clear winner...

I have to agree with that, there is more chances of fraud happening when there are plenty of candidates running for the same position. the one in power could just shift one block of votes to other candidates that is not winning and your bet may come up higher than the others. But with the computerization we'll have to see how it will go when it comes to defrauding an election. They claim it would be harder since the votes are digitized and tampering with it can easily be traced.

That Garci issue was really headache for the GMA administration... and if someone intends to cheat... for sure he/she will take all precautionary measures with millions of pesos to bribe whoever the person is that needs to be bribed... we need to be in constant vigilant...

hi fatherblogger. just like what i have mentioned in the other post, the opposition have more great people to the challenge the administration in the upcoming elections. having one common candidate for the opposition would be better. and again, anybody from the opposition, but not erap.

I am glad that you've excluded Erap from the roster of presidentiables. I am hoping that Erap would not run anymore too. There are indeed plenty of presidentiables in the opposition and Erap not joining anymore will make the race far more competitive.

it is just because erap had been disqualified from holding any other office when he was found guilty of plunder by the high court.

Hi fatherblogger! I surely believe that the opposition will have a better chance of winning if they will unite and have one common candidate. Though it will be better if there are many candidates to choose from, but I believe it will lessen their chances of winning and grabbing the votes from the administration candidate. I only hope that people will finally learn to deeply know their candidate and vote the right one, to use their heart and brain and not what monetary and gifts they will receive on election day. I pray that GOD will finally give us a righteous leader.

I thought they were good at first not until some other candidates start coming out of the open. but i guess i have to choose Noynoy, i would never choose Erap. he still has some strong but blind supporters in his wake..i just hope the people realize who they really need for this country to lead.

the opposition should field a candidate that is both moral and have strong chances of winning but for me it doesn't matter because I will vote for someone who came from poor roots because that is the only person that understands the plight of the poor people, and he has political experience (became speaker of the house, senate president) and has the entrepreneurial mindset that he will impart to filipinos because I believe that is the only way we can be a rich nation if we will have the entrepreneurial mindset and not the colonial way of thinking.

i would prefer that there is just one candidate for the opposition so that the votes cast for the opposition would be grouped and counted in bulk and not divided into the different candidates. team effort from everyone pulls greater results. there is strength in unity.

I think yes it would be better to have a much unified opposition. That is what administration would like to happen. A fragmented opposition would mean the votes would be divided further into smaller votes which would diminish the chances of winning if the administration could garner a solid vote from their own supporters they will have higher chances of winning even if they are a minority of the whole voters. Let us say that an administration vote is expecting only a minority of 40% votes if they are sure to get that solid vote then with the fragmented opposition votes they could still win the election if the 60% for the opposition would be scattered to their candidates. That is why they should be choose a single candidate and others should give up their desires in the meantime.

In my opinion its better to have other candidates so that the people will have several choices. But as to Noynoy Aquino, I guess he still has to prove something for the Filipino people. As per Gordon says in one of his interviews, the Presidential position is not inherited, it should be earned. He should have proven something or do something for our countrymen. I guess he is only getting popular because of his dad, mom and sister kris. Actually they are his assets why he won in his senatorial race. Hmm Noynoy,,, think it over and over and over, It will be the Filipino people who will you handle if you take this position and not only two people. Think a lot of time,,,,,,

Yes, better if we only have one candidate from the opposition. A lot of people want to be presidents. Do they really have the good intentions for this sinking country? The Filipinos are confused with so many candidates vying for only one position. Some are not even qualified. Some have ulterior motives. I hope that the Philippines will still rise up from the muddy state that we are in. Politics really s.u.c.k.s.

It's definitely better for them to have one common candidate but I highly doubt that it will happen. Former President Erap wants to unite the opposition but It should start from him. He's the leader so he should act as a leader. If he wants other to withdraw from the race, then he should be the first one to do so. But in this situation, I believe Manny Villar, an opposition member, will not be withdrawing since he always lead surveys for all the politicians planning to run for presidency.
