We have a belief that black color brings bad luck. So, nobody will either buy expensive clothes in black color or go to a wedding or any other function in a black dress. I don't believe this, but I don't want to disappoint others by going to a function in black dress. My friends say that I look good in black dress. Do you believe that black color brings bad luck in your part of the country?

Many of my friends have many of black clothes, they looks so great in black clothes, like you, daliaj. And some of these clothes are not cheap, haha. Once I believed black dress makes me unluck when I prefer white clothes. And one day, I was really unluck when I was in a black dress to go to work. But then I found God never curses any color, including black. Then I prayed to Him. Now I prefer black clothes, and I bought more and more black clothes. It seems okay. Haha. I'm just sharing the experience on black, no any other purpose! Haha

Hi daliaj, It is an old story dear. I agree earlier it was treating as a colour of bad luck and now that attitude of the people has changed. Presently black is using even for wedding ceremony. Black colour has its own beauty so don’t feel bad to wear black.

It is good to hear that the new generation is slightly changing for old beliefs. But, is not a fast change. There are still people who are traditional and follow all these things. Let us hope for the change in the new world. Thanks for the response.

Hi daliaj, I did not believe in this type of superstition. Why should color effect our live. Yeah ... we have our own favorite color but to say certain color had a power to determine our luck is totally ridiculous.

I know that it the color has nothing to do with our lucky. But, I am forced to follow it because everybody in my country believe it. I will get scolding from elders if they see me in black color in a function. So, I don't take the risk unnecesarily. Thanks for the response.

I saw in the movie that you can only wear some color and totally prohibited to wear other color in some function. It think we, Asian, is more to this type of culture. Especially the older generation. They try to keep the tradition intact and want the youngster to follow it. But black only suitable to be wear during cemetery ceremony in the West. Am I correct? I did not know if there is other function that we need to wear black color.

for some reason black was associated with evil (don't ask me why). it was all about crows and witches and bats and vampires. some phobias are hard to shake off. all i can say is that black clothes are really uncomfortable on a hot summer day. apart from that i have not reason to avoid black.

Black is my favourite colour. I always wear a black pant and no other colour. As regards black bringing bad luck.Black is considered colour of God. Black is synonymous with darkness. God is perceived as an energy that cannot be seen but only felt. Krishna means darkness. It was symbolically used to educated people in olden times that the immense potential of God is present in the outer universe, which is dark or black.Use as much black as u wish. And do not carry a negative thought that it is bad. It brings bad luck because negative thoughts bring negative results..thx

I never knew that black color had a relation related to gods and religion. Yes, I have seen people going to Sabarimala using black color clothes. I never knew the meaning of it. Why do you wear black pant always? It seems you have only one pant.

Yes its normal to assume like that. I like black because it matches with any other colour of shirt i wear. I also like white. i used to tell my frineds who asked me why i like black and white that it reflects my heart. Either i am too bad or too good.

hello daliaj, No, I don't believe that black color brings bad luck. Though it's not good to wear black in attending weddings. In attending to a party, especially during night time, black color is mostly the most suitable for it's formal to look at.

Yup, my grandma and her generation are superstitious, and even my parents were, years back. So we didn't wear black on auspicious days, like new year or during weddings. In fact, black was a no-no. However it's different nowadays. We wear black as fashion, though we try not to wear black on certain days, like my parents' birthdays and new year days.

I also don't really believe it. I just follow because most of the people in my coutnry believe like that. I don't want to take the risk of dressing in black on special occassions. If anything bad happens by mistake, people will put the blame on me. I don't want to get into trouble unnecessarily. Thanks for the response.

No, I don't think so but Black is an attention grabber, and can create a bedroom with a dark, sultry look. Unfortunately it will also make the room look smaller and seem more restrictive. Overuse of the color black can be dangerous in a room like the bedroom, as it can darken a person's mood. It may even produce night mares. Remember that shade and tone is important, and will alter these effects. Most importantly, you should have the final say; it is the colors effect on your own mind that is important, and only you can truly understand your own impressions.

When all the colours merge together we get this black colour. So black is actually full of colours why then should it be termed bad luck. As you say people in our country do not wear ot buy black colour for any festivals or functions. But i just love black and i have many sarees in black colour. In south india when a girl is pregnant for the first time she is gifted with a black saree by her parents. Some people believe wearing black clothes to the temple or church is also bad. Whatever anybody says i do not feel black brings bad luck and this myth should be eradicated.

I also don't accept that black is bad. But, I do not use black color for function because we have been following the same for many years and I don't want to come out of it. My parents will get really tensed if I dress in black for a function. We wear black dress to church on Good Friday. Thnaks for the response.

I will say 'no'. In my opinion, we often wear black color clothes in formal situations. The black color brings bad luck?? It is up to ourselves whether bad luck or good luck.

Today in my country (Philippines), black is not anymore limited to the clothes you wear on wakes or holloween. Black has somewhat evolved into one of the most sophisticated colors (though technically it's not a color). It is now practically considered a basic and a neutral at the same time. Black is very popular in fashion and in design and it's a good thing because at least people are not scared of it anymore. There was even two celebrity couples in our news this year who had a black schemed wedding which was very artistic and funky!

Since I really don't believe in superstitions, I can't relate any color to superstitions. Well I do believe in colors affecting human brain & its scientifically proven, like for example blue color. If you look at blue color, Your concentration a memory power increases & that's the reason why people have something in blue opposite to their study table or in a training room. Similarly some colors do have some characteristics. Even though black color is used as a symbol of sorrow, I don't believe in any superstitions Happy Lotting

No in our country black color doesn't mean to bring bad luck. I like black color because it's not easy to get dirt although it's not fashionable. Also fat people might look thin by wearing black color . In big occasion men in black suits look smart and great. But people here do think that red underwear can bring good luck when you play cards and gamble . Good luck.

Well I don't believe that black brings bad luck. It's ridiculous.I like black in some ways. When I wear back clothes,I look slimmer. And my first schoolbag is black because its colour makes it look brand new all the time. There is not any link between black and bad luck. It's only your opinion. Why don't give it a try?Wearing in black or dark colours wanders in a street to see whether something unexpectedly happens.Don't woorry about those rumours
