Blame it in the rain...

We are expecting visitors today. So we clean the house and change the curtains. So when they arrive, they can see that, at least, the house is presentable and not an eye sore them. We prepare the food. At least we can have something to offer them when they arrive. Even it's just little snacks, sandwiches and drinks. Now, rain falls about an hour of their expected arrival. And the phone rings. Visitors are not coming, blaming the rain. They will not come anymore. Now, if you have a meeting, just like this, though it is not that important, will you still go or blame the rain or the weather for not coming?

Hi Nieldc! How disappointing to learn the visitors you've been expecting will not come just because of the rain. After all the preparations! Nhahhh!, I'd hate them really! I don't think rain is really a big hindrance if the visitors really want to go. It was actually not the rain but it was the attitude of the persons. Why your plans will be changed just because it rained? It's alright if there would be flood all around and transportation will not be at all possible. But if it is only raining then I find it not really an acceptable reason. Anyway rain has been an ordinary thing in the country today. There is no week that passes by without the rain coming in even for one or two days only. It has become an off and on rainy season already. In my case I don't allow rain to affect my day to day routine. I think that should be our attitude otherwise rain will make us very unproductive.

Hi salonga. Oh yes my friend, that really disappointed me, because it was not that heavy rain and it stopped after a few minutes. I also believe it's the attitude of the person and I am not like them, so that makes it more disappointing. I also don't want to be affected with the rain. And in fact, I also bring my raincoat, so whenever I have to go with my bike and it rains, I still come.

Blame the rain too. You know our country when it rains. The flood easily rises, traffic issues, gas price and a lot more. If you think that all your efforts were put to waste, just think of the bright side. The house is already clean plus, you have prepared snack for yourselves. ;) Keep loving life Neil.

Yes koala, it can also be a blessing in disguise. But I am one person who holds on to my word. I don't want people wait for me if I have a meeting and the weather should not be a reason. Maybe they can try or will still go after the rain, even if it's late. Besides, their place is not that far from ours.

Ow.. then the excuse did not turned out to be effective on you. Maybe there's a better reason/ explanation for the absence. Oh well, you can always give me those sandwiches.

that is so sad. i know your friends wanted to come and you would have had a great time but looks like its fate. perhaps its safer at home in a very bad storm. i know in florida here in the USA. when its possibley a hurricane headed there no one gets to see friends for days unless they are brave enough to chance travel.

Hi bunnybon. Probably, if it was a great storm, but it was just a ten or maybe twenty minute rain, and no flood. And the distance from our place is really not that far.

Hi neildc, I think to cancel an arrangement with friends at short notice is very rude especially as you say no great distance is involved. I wouldn't be happy with either unexpected vistitors just turning up or expected visitors cancelling at the last minute. In this country we are more likely to arrange to meet outside the house except for close friends and if we blamed a no show on the rain we wouldn't most likely meet up with anyone for three months of the year.

Hi neildc, no, you misread my last point, last winter it rained every day for 3 months so if we had let the rain be an excuse for cancelling then no one would have seen anyone as it was constantly so wet, so we had no choice but to venture out in it.

Hi thea. Sorry about that. Okay, now I get it. If we will blame the rain, the weather, and it will continue to rain, or the weather continue for that long period, we will not meet for that period. So better go with the rain and get wet so we can meet each other, than never meet for that long.

Hello neil, If it just a normal rain and no storm being announced,i will make a call and ask for some delay i guess due to heavy rains.Becoz if it is just normal rain since it's rainy season here in our place i thought it will stop soon. I am that kind person like you who would always try to make everything alright when expecting a visitor. The house,curtains...and foods. So,i will also consider the effort of my expectant hosts, rain won't be a hindrance unless there is a flood. You should have invited us here in mylot so we can devour all your prepared snacks my friend ...hahaha Cheersssss

Wow! talk about pure bad luck there. It's easy to blame the weather but unfortunately some things just can't be controlled. it's alright neil, just relax, things like that just happens, but some time i do become a loose cannon when things are not done as planned. It's just another bad rainy day i supposed. well, it rained here too, bad day? yeah, cause there aren't cats around to adopt with

Blame the rain, its really a knock out hindrance to every activity that we plan outdoor. Rain ruins everything that we planned ( except that when it includes rain on our activity ) well, it really happens sometimes when everything is ready and then it collapses to what we don't expect to happen. Rain sometimes is a total nuisance.

oh yes anex. but i cannot consider rain a reason for not coming in a meeting, considering the distance and the quantity of water poured down was too light.

The only time I would blame something on the weather is if the weather is extreme, like a hurricane, flooding, sleet or ice, or a massive snow storm. Ordinary rain or even a little snow will not stop me, not if I have made plans and people are counting on me. Of course, there are always people in the world like my mother, who would rush to the grocery store to "stock up" if she saw one snowflake. She was afraid to drive unless the weather was practically perfect. She never drove on major highways, either. She would sometimes call me up if I was planning to go to see her at her home and tell me not to come because of the snow, even if it was one snowflake. So, no, I would not normally blame the weather but I do know people who would.

Hi Marti, Yes that's true, only extreme weather condition could stop me too, from coming to the agreed place of meeting people, whether it's too important or simple occacion. If the rain caused to flood the place, it could be understood, or if the rain was brought by a great storm. One more thing, their place is I guess less than a kilometer or maybe just that far, and if they really stood by their words, they still could come and left their place earlier.

hello neildc, it's been awhile huh. well that's life. well you can't really blame them. you know the traffic when it's raining. travel time usually doubles than the usual. sometimes i do cancel some appointments if it is really raining hard or if it is really not that important. i guess the song 'Blame it on the rain' by Milli Vanilli best suits your discussion. lol. have a good day tokayo.

wow, tukayo, i never thought of that song, really. thanks for reminding. well the distance don't seem to a problem even if it rains, the distance between our places is just so near and it can be reach by a one ride taxi or even just a tricycle.

Hi Neil, That to me my friend is a febal excuse, if I have to go somewhere to visit and made arrangements, then I have to keep it, rain or no rain, they should ge a brolly so it won't wet them, I think that is not nice as you took the trouble to get the food in and done your hoouse up nice, I think these people are not very nice to cancelled out. Hugs. Tamara

hi tamara. nice to see you here again. yes that's right my friend, if they are really good person and a friend, they will not disappoint a friend. they can do it in time and even later if the rain really goes on longer, but it stopped. sorry but i don't get what "febal" is. pardon me, my friend.

If just for the rain, what's the use of umbrellas. If I know i'M being expected, unless there's no means or way to get there or dangerous to go (theres typhoon or flooded) I have to go, what if others do the same thing to me. What would I feel. One should really apply the golden rule in our day to day living.

hi neil, maybe i can eat those foods so i can help, .. the rain yesterday is a big mess to all of us here in Cebu and i hate it, i have a lot of appointments yesterday but still it was postponed because of the rain, and yes we can blame the rain for coming but we can't stop it because it's GOD's will and plan .. ohh, i have experienced that also neil, like you, we clean the house and prepared a lot of foods for our visitors but then it was canceled just because of the rain, ggrr.. the nerve, and the efforts we have given was just for lost.. but it is ok, at least they called us and reminded us that they are not coming, and not letting us wait them until dawn, .. at least you made the effort.!! janebeth.

hi jane. yesterday's rain was not that heavy and it was only for some minutes, it didn't go on for a long time. the distance is also not that far so it is disappointing to our part. maybe, it's because, when i say something, i keep my words. and will not get affected by the weather. you know me.

Well if the weather is really that bad, then yeah, I guess I would have to cancel my visit to a friend or something. Its not really blaming the weather, its just telling the truth.

It seems they are blaming the weather. You know, if it is far, then maybe, it can be understood. But it's not that far. And if you really want to go, it can be done even on the later time, when the rain stopped.

It wouldn't usually put me off. But then we are a very wet country anyway. Maybe where you are the rains make travelling harder. It is disappointing though. All that work and now the visitors aren't coming. At least the house is clean and tidy! There's a bright side to most things!

hi neildc well in the Phillipines you probably get a lotmore rain than we do here in drought ridden Southern California. So we could harldy blame the rain for putting off some social or business meeting. I suppose we could sort of stretch it if we had a mild shake here to say we were not coming because we had an earthquake. of course the others would say why would that s top you, we get them all the time?No unless we are having a torrential flood I wou ld not put off going at all. greetings from very dry Garden Grove Ca.

hi Patsie. yes, that's true, if the rain brought a lot of water and flooded the area, then that is a good reason for them not to come. and since the distance is not far, i don't think their reason is good enough. so garden grove is very dry these days?
