secret life of american teenage, 10 Things I Hate About You, gossip girl, are just a few of the tv series that are filled with teenagers or young adults and how they mess their lives up. no offense. but a lot of the tv series are more negative then positive. the teenagers who are watching this stuff probably thinks it alright to do it. The only shows that are bearable to watch is CSI, and that's about investiagtion on dead people, which is already depressing. Isn't there any happy and positive tv series to influence people? what is up with depressing shows? there is enough depression in the world, can we at least have a better world in t

I think it is normal for teenagers to mess up their lives. Depressing shows aren't always the greatest, but a lot of teenages are depressed so it's probably closer to the truth then some ohter tv shows. I agree that there is enough depression in the world, but shows that display are in their own twisted way showing the truth.

actually yes- misery likes its own company. If you;re going through a rough time, it's always somewhat reassuring to know you;re not alone...so programs like this are useful in that regard. They are telling teenagers 'we share your teen angst...you;re not alone'

for them i suppose it's fine but what about those kids who are not going through rough patches. I seriously feel it can cause them some harm. Nah, i still think that the media should encourage more positive choices and life style via these series.

I TOTALLY agree with your comments. Much of TV content is depressing these days and even the good shows (like you mention) are on morbid content...what is wrong with our society? And IS it the taste of our society that is to blame? Or is it, like the media tells us, down to OUR taste? Is this what we as a people want to really see? We love scaring ourselves after all.....I think the whole world needs to sit on a psychiatrist's couch and figure out what is going on with us!

yes thank you! finally someone who understands. I thought i was the only one who wants to see something good and in search of a better word; happy? I understand a scary movie one a while but on a daily basis i'd prefer something less dark. Thanks for replying. best respond.

I love watching secret life of an american teenager and 10 things i hate about you...those are actually good shows. I love Greek...that is a good show...but also not the whole show is depressing...I think it's really close to reality and how teenagers are, not everyone is happy go lucky all the time...we don't have the shows that they had in the 50's and 60's where everything was perfect because that isn't real life.

I assume that they are trying to educate families and parents about the things that actually go on in most high schools in the USA. TV shows that come out follow a trend. If one show does well then here come several more. When I was a kid it was westerns, then sci fi, the detective shows. Somewhere in there sitcoms were always around, but like everything else if one person has a good idea then everyone copies it.
