Assuming that you are using Windows then you do not require any third party software. Windows Movie Maker will compress the file to a small data rate while still offering a decent visual playback. A short video would be small enough to email to your friends, and a long video could easily be transferred to a flash drive to transport.

Try using Total Video Converter. it has the codecs of almost all possible extensions and a powerful tool. u can even conver a 1gb dvd(.vob)file to a just 15 mb 3gp file, but with loss of quality. Hero video converter is also a good 1...it can compress/convert video files....nt 2 a very great extent bt with negligible degradation of quality!!!

The first thing you can do is tu zip it using winrar, put it in a Pen Drive and unzip it at your friends computer. Also change the extension of the video mile (.wmv,.avi) to .txt before zipping.

Well. you can do one thing is you can compress it by winRAR and take it to your friend's home and decompress there. another way is you can compress video file by converting it to .avi file.. you can do it by using total video converter and compress it to .avi file.. :-)

To compress video files the simple thing that you can do is to convert the video into 3gp format but there will be a loss in its quality. If really wish to retain the quality then i suggest you to compress it using WINRAR this compresses the file in a better way later when extracted it gives a good quality but the quality will not match the original so make sure you have a back up.

First what was your video file extension as of now? if it is still in mpeg format just convert it to avi extension that way it will be compressed. Try to search about Total Video Converter it can do that.
