My daughter is 4 . . . she loves books, but she had an early interest in them. Here are some things that come to mind about encouraging kids to read, and from what I've heard from others. Get books that peak your child's interest. If she's interested in, say princesses, get a bunch of books about princesses. At 6, if there are certain character or movie interests, get books about that. Let her interests draw her into books. Set an example. If she sees you reading, then she'll see that reading must be important. When you read, don't let it be just straight reading. Ask questions, like if she remembers when an incident in the book happened to her, or how she feels about something that happened to a character. Interact with her and the story so she can relate to it. Does she like to cooking / baking / crafting? Sometimes simple craft or cookbooks can motivate a child to read . . . because they want to make something (which required reading the instructions)! What a fun activity for you and your child! Have you searched for childrens websites? A good one is www.starfall.com It's a site that encourages children to learn to read in a fun way. My daughter has loved that site since she was very little! There are actually many websites for kids that encourage learning to read. Take trips to the library or even the book store. Our libraries and bookstores often have "storytime" events . . . kids sit around a storyteller reading a book. Sometimes they have music or craft events too - usually around a theme that encourages kids to read. And then, let her pick the books she wants to read and take home. This is not something I would do, but our neighbor swears up and down that her son learned to read through video games. He was 8 and had a lot of trouble reading, but the want to beat his older brother at a certain video game quickly motivated him to read - hee hee. Anyway, that's my brainstorming for now. Best of luck with reading!!

I always read to my son. He did not read until he was 11. He had learning disabilities. Somethings just can not be rushed. Work on simple rhyming words. Teach in word families -- cat, hat, bat, sat, rat. Teach the -at sound, and the beginning sounds. Then go to another family car, far, tar etc.... once she knows the sounds for c ar and t. She will be able to start sounding out words like cart. Make it fun. Teach a few minutes at a time. Make every activity a learning opportunity. Read signs out loud when you drive. Cook with her. type up recipes ....use pictures to help describe the words. If a recipe uses the word egg...add in a picture of an egg. She will also learn numbers and fractions this way.

I have a 4 year old and I home school her, when she is done with her work I reward her by letting her get on the computer. I don't know if you've tried it yet, but if your intrested here are some good reading sites. starfall.com, pbskids.org, and kidzone.com. I hope this help's you out a little bit. You can also try a fun craft project, by letting her make her own book. Try dltk-kids.com for fun learning craft's. Good Luck.

its my suggestion you make ur child study in a intreasting way. 1. u tell me u study for 1/2 hour and i am make a very tasty dish for u.u make for ur child that he likes the most.tell him we will eat together. u finish ur work and then we will enjoy it. 2. don't put ur child in a room. make him study in some common room. so that there can be a intreasting atmosphere. 3. always give some break. don't always say him to study, study and study. 4. always do that which is of his intreast. put condition that u learn this that we will do that.e.g going somebody's house, dine out, play game, eat some thing intresting. 5. always act like a friend not mother.don't let her bore. 6. u can also run lite low voice music around her also.
