Do you get blank calls in the middle of the night?

Just now not even 10 mins back I was just about to turn off my computer & go to sleep. The phone rang.I received the call & said HELLO.But there is no response from the other side.I held the receiver for 2-3 mins & hung up. The same thing had happened some 7-8 months back.My friends & my neighbours also tell me they do get blank calls. Do you get blank calls in the middle of the night? What might be the purpose of those who call?Do they check whether anybody is in the house or not?If not do they think of robbing the house? Your thoughts...

Hi krupesh, Yes, I do get some calls like that in the middle of the night. Thing is, there are times when I am are really waiting for a call at midnight from my mother who lives on the other side of the globe, so when the phone rings I am thinking its my mom. Then all I here on the other side of the line is a weird sound, sometimes some background music or noise, or just plain silence. It's annoying but I can't switch off the ringer as the next call could by my mother's. It's tricky.

I never get them because I turn off my phone ringer at night time. So no one can call me once I turn off that ringer. I don't think it is people who know you and are checking to see if you are home to rob you. I think it is people who are mean and have no life who like to call and wake people up in the night because they think it is funny to do. I used to get them a long time ago when I did not turn off the phone ringer at night.

I think that most of the time it is just people playing pranks on you. We haven't gotten a call here like that. We have caller ID as well, and everyone that knows us, knows... atleast we think they do. In any case, I wouldn't worry about them. The fact is, your home when you answer so if it is a robber, most likely if they're calling to check their not going to come in if your there.

It has happened to me every day two to three times but is never at the same time and I hate it when I get those calls especially if I wake up to answer the phone. I don’t know how it might be or why it might be happening but it is annoying because this started two weeks ago. But I don’t hear a thing and there are times that right after I answer I hear when it gets disconnected. I wish that if it might be because someone want to hear what might be going on my side of the line they might just get some courage to ask or even better to stop making those calls.

I used to get a lot of these calls during the night, but now here in the U.K. calls can easily be traced if you report them. But before the law came into force, I used to unplug my phone and leave an answer-machine on all night. It is not worth losing sleep over.. It has also been a way for thieves to find out if anybody is at home or not. As soon as they hear the dial-tone stop, they would hang up - an answer-machine can give that sort of effect. - Derek

No, they probably wouldn't do that because they would think that the answer-machine answering was a real person. They wouldn't know one way or the other. And, they would have to get in without activating the house alarm anyway. Most thieves herein the UK wouldn't bother to break into a house once they see an alarm siren on the wall, unless they were very sophisticated, and then they wouldn't bother with a little old house like mine, they would be looking at breaking into somebody very rich who had stuff worth stealing. - Derek

So, assuming it was thieves, they would think you were out and turn up when you were really in? Could lead to awful consequences

Hey, No I don't get any blank calls in the night time or during the day, sometimes we do but we most of the time think that it may be a bad connection, so we can't hear the other people on the other side of the phone. Make sure you have a good day, Happy Lotting!!

I have not experienced this sort of thing for such a long time. I would be very annoyed if I was getting silent calls in the middle of the night and I would want to know who it is that thinks that doing something like that is okay. I wouldn't worry about anyone thinking to rob the house - most likely it is just kids messing about.

somtimes it can be a wrong number and no one at the other end wants to admit it. I do not think it could be robers but it does not hurt to check the house for your own safey. but the calls I get are ussualy in the daytime. not at night, but it could happen.

I do not have enough fingers and toes to count the number of such blank calls that I have received at the craziest hours of the night. For a long time I used to get it at really random hours. Finally, I decided to keep my phone on silent mode when I went to sleep at night, coz its so irritating to answer such calls and then have no one at the other end of the line responding back. As for your questions about the intent of the call, I have no clue.

I once did but the person's # wasn't protected so I woke up at 3am and every hour kept calling the person. =P They finally picked up in frustration, proclaimed they didn't know me or call me, and never bothered me again.

I have had the same thing nearly everyday when i come in from school and around 4 o'clock. Nothing has happened to me. I suggest just leave it and if you call straight away after the call(if you live in england) call 1471 free of charge and they will give you the number take it down every time and if it is the same number call the phone company and ask if they call block or find out who it is. Good Luck Don't WOORY about it. :)

No I don't get them because I am not in the phone book. Friends and family would not cause concern in the middle of the night - though they know that I am usually up in the middle of the night any way

I do get blank calls but its not just at night, even daytime sometimes. I think those people are just too free or maybe feeling so bored that they try to have some fun at disturbing people through blank calls. These people probably just ramdomly dial a number or hotline on the phone and then keep quiet all the way when someone pick up the phone.

I've never gotten them before...never heard of them. I would be alert, but not too a point where I'm paranoid. Unplug the phone if you can and use your cell phone for emergencies.

We don't have a land line. We use our cell phones, so we just turn off the ringers before going to bed. Sometimes when I wake up in the morning, I would see a lot of missed calls. Some of the numbers I don't recognized so I just delete. If you answer the phone and you get nothing from the other end after a few seconds it usually means it's a telemarketer. I just hang up if I don't get a respond after I say hello once and it's quiet on the other side.
