Many movies today are made with a lot of graphics or visual effects, but with Hitchcock he builds suspense with the story, with implication, not with gore, with subtle story telling that leads in such a while and builds a tension that often the watcher doesn't realize is being built, until suddenly a jolting moment happens and it hits you a jolt of fear. It is what makes his movies so great. I know that so many talk about the showewr scene in Psycho, and the suspense, the music, and visuals, the slow build up all together make a great movie moment. I found one of the most eerie and yes scary scense in the whole movie was the ending, when Norman is sitting there the camera is on him, and he just has that odd look on his face and you hear him thinking in the voice he used when speaking as his mother .... [last lines] Norma Bates: [voiceover in police custody, as Norman is thinking] It's sad, when a mother has to speak the words that condemn her own son. But I couldn't allow them to believe that I would commit murder. They'll put him away now, as I should have years ago. He was always bad, and in the end he intended to tell them I killed those girls and that man... as if I could do anything but just sit and stare, like one of his stuffed birds. They know I can't move a finger, and I won't. I'll just sit here and be quiet, just in case they do... suspect me. They're probably watching me. Well, let them. Let them see what kind of a person I am. I'm not even going to swat that fly. I hope they are watching... they'll see. They'll see and they'll know, and they'll say, "Why, she wouldn't even harm a fly..."

I tend to watch movies I enjoy more than once, I like the details in the movies because they can make the movie that much better, I also saw you were asking about Hitchcock's tv series, I post a url where you can watch some of the episodes hope you enjoy it. I personally do not think the first episode was one of his bests, but it was ok.

I'll go against the grain and pick Shadow of A Doubt. Now, Psycho is good (so good I watched it once and it scared me so much I vowed never to watch it again) but I've always preferred Shadow of A Doubt and felt it was really underrated. I found Uncle Charlie a very sinister villain, because he seemed so normal. The kind of guy a small town family would be happy to have visit. And, you gradually find out just how twisted and evil he is.

I prefer North By Northwest. It has suspense , romance , and humor. It also has a great score written by Bernard Hermann, the same composer who wrote the score for Psycho.
