Swine Flu at Work How to avoid it

Seems like everyone is coming down with this swine flu. I have people I work with that have all the symptoms plus fevers that are lasting longer then a week. Yet they still come to work. How do you avoid catching this flu if everyone insists on going out when sick?

Hi moneymommy...I would try to avoid touching anything else that other people touch and wash my hands constantly. I didn't know that you were supposed to go to work if you had the swine flu - I thought you were supposed to stay home! Good luck with staying away from everyone and I hope you stay healthy!

i DON'T SEE HOW U ARE GOING TO AVOID IT if all those idiots insist on coming on to work. I don't understand why people will not stay home & stop spreading it around. I hope u don't get it.

Avoid it the same way you would avoid any flu or virus. Wash your hands often, keep them away from your face. Up your Vitamin C intake, take immune supportive herbs like echinacea, goldenrod and elderberry. Get plenty of rest and eat nutritious food. Not everyone who is exposed to the virus will come down with it and of those who do, there are some who will have only mild symptoms.

After all, it's a kind of flu, respiratory disease. It remind me the times of SARS. Plenty of sleep, to often wash hands, keep the room airy, physical exercise, to intake plenty of nutrientsubstance, etc. We are suppose to pay attention on it, but fear is useless and helpless, I think.

Well the good thing is that they're saying that the swine flu is less serious than the regular flu. I don't know why some people go to work/school when they are sick. Makes no sense to me. I guess just wash your hands a lot more than usual and keep hand sanitizer everywhere (work, car, house, etc.).

Take your Lysol can to work and use it on all surfaced you touch. Wash often, build up your own immune system and get plenty of sleep. Your employer should give guide lines for all sick people. Many are still not taking this illness seriously enough.

The best recommendation for trying to avoid the swine flu is frequent hand washing. Don't know how much that helps if the people you work with have the flu already. You can only do so much to avoid it. Hard to believe that people would go in public places and to work when they are sick with anything but it happens. I take vitamins also but that's not going to help if I'm exposed to flu like symptoms. Stay well, carolbee

moneymommy, I hope some of the tips here will be of help. KEEP YOUR HANDS CLEAN: Wash them thoroughly and frequently – especially before eating or preparing food – and rinse under clean running water to remove any infected mucous. DRY YOUR HANDS AFTER WASHING: Wet hands are more likely to pick up and spread germs. KEEP HANDS AWAY FROM THE FACE: If someone sneezes and then opens a door, the next person to touch the handle will come into direct contact with the virus. So, do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth until you've washed your hands. SNEEZE INTO A TISSUE- THEN BIN IT: Cover your mouth and nose when you sneeze and then dispose of the tissue carefully. Don't leave it hanging around or re-use it several times. AVOID OVER-USE OF HAND GELS: Don't rush out and buy dozens of hand gels to use on the move. They're useful in situations where there are no washrooms. But if you have access to soap and water at the end of a journey, use that as it is just as effective. KEEP SURFACES CLEAN: Proprietary sprays are fine, but a mild solution of washing-up liquid and water works equally well. OPEN A WINDOW: Humidifiers and air purifiers may be effective, but they are still not fully tested against the swine flu virus. One of the most efficient ways to clear the air and dilute the virus is simply to open a window. LOOK AFTER YOURSELF: The body's own immune system offers the best protection from illness. Eating a good and varied diet, drinking plenty of water and taking regular exercise are the best ways to stay healthy and avoid getting the disease in the first place. Plus, if you or your family do succumb to swine flu, being in good health will help everyone to shrug it off quickly and without complications. I feel that we really need to be calm at all times and be more discerning with the situation and environment around us. Don't take anything for granted and chances. Take care and have a nice day.
