How many ear piercings do you have?

September 15, 2009 4:52pm CST
My little niece came to visit her favorite aunt (me) and I almost choked on my cherry muffin when I saw her ears covering in rings!.. she had like 10 piercings on each side, which is a total of 20 earrings plus she had belly button rings.. I told her mum that when I feel better am sure going to have a word about this with her as she really does look hideous oh and I told her that! I only have one piercing on each ear and I had that done as soon as I was born, as thats the custom in our country. When a baby girl is born they immediately pierce her ears.. So how many ear piercings to do you have and do you think its nice to have a whole ear filled with rings? I personally don't think its smart..

Hello jellymonty...I have two in each ear. I would like to have another. To me it is real cute to wear three pairs of earrings. The part that I don't like is the body Piercing. To me that looks so wrong. But I am an older lady and I guess maybe that is something that the younger generation likes. No wait I will take that back my sister in law has her belly pierced and she is older than me..You have a good day...

I'm sorry, this seems like a totally unrelated question but what's the "labret"? And, because I've always wanted to ask someone with a tongue piercing, is it really weird the first couple of days when you first get it? Like, do you have to learn how to talk around it?

Ohhh, alright. Was just curious about the whole talking with a tongue-piercing in. I figured you must get used to it, much like braces. :)

I think i just an oldfashioned one...just one each ear, and I barely use it...I just put it on sometimes to make sure it's not closing up.

I say "to each their own." I wouldn't do it, but then again, I've done stuff with others wouldn't do. If it's not hurting you or anyone else, what's the problem?

I don't know if you wouldn't do what I have done, but some others certainly wouldn't even get a few little tattoos! As for being the mother of a 13 year old with a ton of piercings, I don't even want to picture myself in that situation. Sorry, but it is hard for me to know what I'd do now, it'll probably be way harder if she was in front of me. I guess, however, since it is already done, it would be extra tough to convince your niece to rethink them.

ooohhh please tell me what you've done that I haven't done.. I'm dying to know that... Its no problem for me but she's only 13 and it doesn't look nice on her at all... if you had a 13 year old daughter would you allow her to have her ears looking like a hyena had a feast on them?

I only have one on both sides of my ears. And I don't even earrings often. They make me feel itchy and I feel uncomfortable. I only wear them occasionally. I don't pierced them when I was a baby but when I was eight. It's not really a custom and I know someone who didn't pierce her ears until now. For us it's only fashionable. I don't see it's smart to pierce too much too. I fail to see the point of doing that.

yes I too don't see the point of earrings really. I only wear them if I'm going out and have my hair tied up. my hair is long and loose most times covering my ears so I never see the point of wearing earrings.

Your school had a rule about how many ear piercings you were allowed? Wow! That really sounds like a breach of personal choice and free will, but each their own, I suppose. My school said that you had to wear clear, plastic studs to school, but they didn't ban like neck piercings or anything. Actually, I take that back. I think they had a ban on nose piercings, so the girls who had to have their noses pierced for religious/cultural reasons had to either take out the piercings or cover them up with a bandage or piece of tape. Quite odd really.

Hi jellymonty. I remember one incident where I was riding in an elevator and I couldn't help but stare at this lady's ears because it had about six or seven earrings (thus piercings). She must've thought that I was envious but I was actually disgusted because it was obvious that she does not take off these earrings and her ears are quite...dirty. Ugh! I only have one piercing per ear that was also done when I was born. When I was in college I asked my mom if I could have another piercing because I wanted to have two earrings per ear because I thought it kinda looked cute. But my mom said that I would regret it later so I did not get my ears pierced. Thank God I listened to my mom. =)

i only have one per earring. when i was in high school, a decade ago hehehe, i used to have so many piercings. it was kind of "in" that time. my mother would scold me every time she sees it. so whenever i go home, i made sure i'm only wearing one per ear. hehehe.. right now, i only wear a pair of earrings occasionally. but some of my piercings are still okay.

Ten is a very big number for a kid. Usually people in my country go for one or two or maxium of three piercings on a year. I have gone for two and I think it is the maximum. My parents didn't like the idea of two on a year, but my husband and I liked two. I think it is crazy to go for more than three and I don't think it will look good.

I only have one pierce in both ear. I dont want to have many piercing because I believe that it could leave a bad mark on your personality. And sometimes when applying for job, they will asked you if you many piercing in you ears or any body parts. If you said yes, you will failed.

Hi jellymonty! I think that when a person is an adult they should be able to choose if they want piercings, and how many and where. In my opinion 13 is too young to have that many. I first got my ears pierced when I was 11. When I was in high school in the late 70's I was the first girl to get a second piercing in one ear after I saw someone on TV that had that. I did it myself with a needle because I knew my Mom wouldn't let me get it done. In a way I think piercing my ears more became a type of rebelliousness for me, because I have 5 in one ear and 3 in the other. The thing is my hair has always been pretty long and covered my ears unless I pulled it back or styled it in a way that my ears show. So I guess I have the choice of letting my rebel side show or not. :)

I don't have any piercings in my body. I don't want to have the piercings because it is painful and I don't wear ear rings. So it's alright for me. Some people think it's cool to have many piercings, but I don't think the same. I love China

I understand your feelings, BUT... I have one piercing on each ear as it´s the custom in my country to do it to baby girls when they are born. I am chilean. And I am 64 years old and have seen and done a lot in my life. A long time before you were born, a revolution took place among the young people. This revolution started in England. The Beatles used their hair long (up to then only girls would use it that long) so every young man let their hair grow. While the boys were letting their hair grow, we were shortening our skirts. My mom said it was indecent. She made me sew the hem down, I put it up again when she wasn´t looking. Time has gone by and other ways of dressing have appeared. The boys (then SO well dressed) now use horrible pants. Worse still, for my old taste, are the tatoos. And the piercings everywhere!!! I used to give clases at the university. There was a student that had a ring inside her mouth, in her tongue. I just couln´t talk to her: I just kept looking at the ring with no other ideas in my head. And the gothic girls!!! You don´t know if they are healthy or anemic!!! I decided not to pierce my girl´s ears when they were born, against my elder´s wishes. I thought it was barbaric. I shouldn´t have bothered. Both of my girls pierced their ears as soon as they could. Not as many piercings as your niece, but more that needed. Now they are fortiish and wear a pair of conservative earring each. Don´t worry. She´s come around. We all do. Just give her time. Take care.

i also have my old piercing in my ears when i was still a baby my friend. and even up to now i still have it. but i am adding one pair up. so i have four holes. two in each ears. but i am not having to make it more than what your niece is having. that would be way too informal and well out of this world. it aint really smart to have so many ear pieercings and we may look odd and bad. not such my type. jhelai

I have 3 on one ear and 4 on the other. In college I also got my eyebrow pierced. I have no problem with ear piercing and body piercing. But, I don't think I would let my 13 year old daughter get 10 holes in each of her ears. When she's older than she can decide if that is what she wants to do. I probably would let her get a second hole in each of her ears at 13 though.

I only have two ear piercings, one on each side. I don't like multiple ear piercings because I don't think many earrings look particularly aesthetically pleasing. But that's just me, I'm not a big fan of piercings in general, although belly-button piercings have the potential to look nice if not a little trashy at times. :?
