Hari Raya festive season is on the way, another 2 days Malays people will celebrate Hari Raya. I am a Chinese and I am celebrating Chinese New Year (CNY) every year. Before Chinese New Year is coming, I will buy some new clothes for myself. I will standby at least 2-3 sets to be wear during Chinese New Year. When I was young, I even bought a new set of pyjama to be wear during Chinese New Year. I want everything to be new on that Special Day. Apart from new clothes, I will buy new set of shoes and if my financial allows, I will get a new handbag too. Do share with me whether you will get a new clothes for New Year. How many set of new clothes?? Thank you!!

hi Shia.. I start buying clothes in a year long but keep them just for this CNY big day. I will have at least 3 sets of new clothes, 1 pyjamas, and a pair of new shoes. A bag is not a must, but if I come across a nice ones, I will normally buy and keep them. I remembered back those days, when I was young in my childhood, my mum will tailored my CNY clothes for me and I have at least 5 pairs of them! But now, after knowing its not the necessary, I had 3 (for the first 3 days of CNY) since I will be travelling quite a lot from my paternal home town to my maternal home town. New clothes are not what I look forward, more I will want to have the pre-CNY preparation, putting up the deco, bakings and others..

Shia, I will normally bake butter cookies, chocolate chips cookies, kuih kapet, and most important the nian gao. My family members are very picky and normally we only want to eat our home made food. My aunt will contribute on the pineapple cookies, and another one will have those peanut cookies too.

Hi Cwong, I also like to eat peanut cookies. One of my favourite cookies. Normally,my sister will make for me the Chinese New Year cookies like pineapple cookies, peanut cookies and butter cookies.I will bring them back to Malaysia a few packs and within a month, all are gone. Both me and hubby like to eat CNY cookies. I don't really like kue kapit and kue bangkit.Of course, I will still eat,but I don't eat much on them.

Hi Cwong, Oh...I forget that you are a good baker. So you always bake your own cookies during CNY?? What cookies do you make usually? I love to eat pineapple cookies. Normally, I will buy it from my hometown as it has a very nice pineapple cookies,Suit my taste. My Mum will also buy me some other kind of cookies,at least 4-5 bottles for me to carry back home. And it takes me about a month to finish them up with my husband. We just love to eat CNY cookies while watching TV. Now with my son around, we have to wait till he is sleeping, then we will start our cookies party.

When I was young : YES! When I am just married : YES! When I just become a father : YES! When my son is schooling : NOT ANYMORE! It is quite costly nowadays when children started schooling. Need to buy books, school uniforms, some PIBG school charges, etc. Chinese New year is at the beginning of the year..so the budget is quite tight. However I make sure my son have at least 2 sets of new clothes and shoes. Lately this year, he only has one new red t-shirt not even a new pair of shoes. I wonder what will happen next year when I am retire. It will be tougher. My wife also do not buy any new items for herself...since she is not working. We have to budget to give 'ang paus' (red packets) and some money for our parents.

Hi James, I am just wondering how old is your son? Since you are going to retire next year, I guess your son must be a in toddler age. Although we need to have new clothes for new year, but I don't really spend too much. Must have a budget for my spending. I will get myself 2 sets of new clothes,3 sets for my son and 2 sets for my husband. My mother will buy some new clothes for me and my son too before Chinese New Year. As for redpackets,I will have to set a limit too.The first priority is for parents and in-laws,then my son will have his portion too.

Hello shia. It is a traditional custom for us Chinese to wear new clothes for the new year. Here I mean, our traditional Spring Festival. When I was a small kid, I used to look forward to my mother's buying me new clothes. It is something that kids expect a lot. But now since I myself am married with children. I always buy new clothes for them and for my wife as well. New year, new look. I am looking forward to the coming of the 2010 Spring Festival. Thank you for being my friend, shia.

Hello Shia, Yeah, we are now on Holiday Mood. The Muslims here are celebrating Hari Raya. For me, I like Chinese New Year. My hub is a traditional man. During Chinese New Year, I have to bring the kids to visit all of the hub family members and closed relatives. So we have to wear new cloth everyday from the first day of Chinese New Year until at least the fifth day. For my self, I will buy new cloth, shoes and bags too. So I think I have to work harder at Mylot to get more earning to spend on my upcoming shopping. LOL

Hi Vingyan, A few more months, Chinese New Year is coming. This year I am not going back to my hometown. Will be at my husband's town for Chinese New Year. Same with me, we will visit some close relatives and family members during Chinese New Years and will wear new clothes for the first few days of Chinese New year. Buying new clothes ,it means spend money again. So let's work harder at MyLot together!!
