Well, like it or not, it is official that the second wave of the Swine Flu (Influenza A) H1N1 virus is emerging and I hope that this would make us more wary and careful. As the temperate regions will be getting colder, more people will be staying indoors and spreading within will be even more rampant. In UK, two sufferers are believed to have developed resistance to Tamiflu, the anti-viral drug which is the only line of defense to the disease before a vaccine is ready. The numbers are increasing all over the world and China is now having more new cases 10,000 to date and experts are already forecasting ten million cases by the end of the year. The news is just bringing no prospect at the moment and I hope that everyone will be on our toes as we may be facing the challenge of our life. So, hope some of the handy tips here might be of help for everyone here: KEEP YOUR HANDS CLEAN: Wash them thoroughly and frequently – especially before eating or preparing food – and rinse under clean running water to remove any infected mucous. DRY YOUR HANDS AFTER WASHING: Wet hands are more likely to pick up and spread germs. KEEP HANDS AWAY FROM THE FACE: If someone sneezes and then opens a door, the next person to touch the handle will come into direct contact with the virus. So, do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth until you've washed your hands. SNEEZE INTO A TISSUE- THEN BIN IT: Cover your mouth and nose when you sneeze and then dispose of the tissue carefully. Don't leave it hanging around or re-use it several times. AVOID OVER-USE OF HAND GELS: Don't rush out and buy dozens of hand gels to use on the move. They're useful in situations where there are no washrooms. But if you have access to soap and water at the end of a journey, use that as it is just as effective. KEEP SURFACES CLEAN: Proprietary sprays are fine, but a mild solution of washing-up liquid and water works equally well. OPEN A WINDOW: Humidifiers and air purifiers may be effective, but they are still not fully tested against the swine flu virus. One of the most efficient ways to clear the air and dilute the virus is simply to open a window. LOOK AFTER YOURSELF: The body's own immune system offers the best protection from illness. Eating a good and varied diet, drinking plenty of water and taking regular exercise are the best ways to stay healthy and avoid getting the disease in the first place. Plus, if you or your family do succumb to swine flu, being in good health will help everyone to shrug it off quickly and without complications. Take care and stay healthily alert! Archie0, My advice for you here is to remain calm, go the nearest hospital and have a doctor to look at your situation. Don't self medicate and second guess whatever you are having and do. If you have some preexisting medical condition please let the doctors know and handle from there. I feel this is the time to work closely with the health experts, authorities and facilities available in your country. Take care and do keep us or rather me posted.

Hi skysuccess, Reminds me of the lyrics of "I refuse to give up, I refuse to give in ... One love gotta stay alive... I'll survive". Well, it doesnt really make sense, actually. If god wanted to kill all of us as fast as possible, the December 21, 2012 episode and the earth axis turning and all that would be just fine. So why did god introduce Swine Flu at this late hour! May be December 12, 2012 is not going to happen, after all. Or may be Swine Flue is not going to kill as many after all. Or may be we are just about to discover something that cures every ailment, including swine flu - accidentally! In any event, I dont think the problem is going to manifest as severely as is feared. But thanks for the list of precautions. I've noted them down!

vandana7, First of all, I think we should look at the present picture and put aside whatever is going to happen on Dec 21, 2012. For one, I have yet to enjoy another euphoria of the World Cup 2010 - so don't deprive me with your axis theory. I have another theory here for you since you have instinctively brought it up. Have you ever wondered if this Swine Flu Virus was actually brought about by some lunatic individual who is trying to wage a biological warfare to unsettle the world? Yes, I am referring that it is being MAN MADE! Care to differ? Well, I would not at my end as afterall, most of the atrocities, war crimes, genocides, germ warfare, biological mass destruction, nuclear weapons and etc.. are from MAN, and MAN alone - from choice to executing the act.

Hi skysuccess - there is this trichotomy theory - if A = B, and if B=C, then A= C. Therefore, if god the great made man, and man the fool made the swine flu, then god the great made the swine flu. . Whatever! I just dont think it will take off as expected. We though AIDS will reduce the population. Nothing so dramatic happened! Those days of London's plague and ring a ring a roses are gone! Enjoy the World Cup. I am sure u will be around and so will I.

This advice is all well and good, but they're things that people should already be doing. It's common sense to wash your hands after sneezing or using the restroom, keeping surfaces clean, looking after yourself by eating healthy, and all of that. Personally, I'm not the least bit worried. If I get sick, I get sick. I stay home and take whatever medicine I need to until I get better and try to avoid contact with a lot of people. I don't understand why people are running around and panicking at every single cough or sneeze that they happen to emit. It's so crazy.

coolcoder, It would also be common sense not to take anything for granted here. I do not mean to run around like a headless chicken when you get some flu like symptoms but I feel that self medication and second guessing would not be the best advocate for now. I just wish that we could all be ever mindful of ourselves and people around us. Some changes will be necessary for what is happening now, and making an effort to see the doctor before prescribing medication and rest would be the better order of the day in my perspective of things. Take care.

Dear skysuccess, Thanks for the handy tips. I read it out to my family members as I read it through your post. Great job Totally agree with you, first and foremost avoid being infected. Secondly is to boost a strong body immune system to avoid getting it. Looks like first and second is inter-related...LOL PRECAUTION IS BETTER THAN CURE. Cheers and have a good weekend :)

Iriene88, You are welcome. I am very concern about this pandemic and for everyone here. I just hope that this is not going to get out of control and cause a major catastrophe. With this second wave coming, I just hope that the world will be taking a much serious view and start containing and control issues. It is really unthinkable for this pandemic to arrive at this stage. It is just way beyond my expectation as compared to the previous strains like the SARS and Bird Flu. This Swine Flu, I felt had been played down by a lot of health organizations and experts especially WHO and I feel that there is some politics behind it. Anyway, do take care at your end and that your family and you will have a great weekend as well.
