hey friends, lately we have a tragic accident in the ocean at the South West part of the Philippines.. good thing there are plenty of survivors but still it's very sad because they have dead ones.. the last survivor was a women, she was floating in the sea for 2-3 days.. and note she says that in order to live, she ate her own dress and drink the sea water for her to survive on those days while floating.. if you were on her shoes, will you do the same also?? please feel free to answer here.. and thank you..

I honestly don't know how I would handle a situation like that. I doubt most people could know how they would handle it unless they had the same thing happen to them. That is a horrible thing to happen and I'm very glad to hear that this woman was found alive. I don't see how eating her dress could help her survive, though. To my knowledge, there are no calories in dress material and we need calories to burn for energy. As for drinking sea water, I'd probably do that. Extreme thirst makes us do unusual things. If that was the only water available, I would think that it is human nature to want to drink it because we can survive a short time with no food but very little time without water, even if it is sea water.

yes i agree on you MW, we can live without eating but we can't really survive if we can't drink water.. water is the most important thing than food. i really salute the survivor, she was crying while explaining it in front of the media, the pain she suffers from those days are like hell, and good thing she was alive.. it's her second life, and she should be thankful for that..

Hi there! Glad that she can survive after 2 days floating on the ocean. I think anyone too need to eat what ever you have just to seek for the living. Be it a dress or leaves or sea waters. But I am wondering the dress is the thing that made her survive or the sea water?

we have always heard of stories like that from survivors and a lot of other things such as eating seaweeds they see floating in the sea. maybe, i would also do what the woman did just to survive. it is proven not poisonous and they were alive, after all.

I don't think that I will ever do that because an average human can live without food for 30-40 days & can survive without water for 5-7 days. Now if I had to stay longer than that then that's up to god but I would say that I'll not prefer to eat clothes & would rather die. Happy Lotting

well i might eat my own clothes but i thought drinking sea water could easily kill you. it actually dehydrates you and makes you even more thirsty. maybe i'm wrong i'm not too sure.

I think I would do what the lady did too. But besides eating clothes, I'll try to look for other alternatives like one member said, eating seaweed. That was surely a hard thing that the survivor went through there.

i do not know what to think int hat tragic dayof mylife my friend. but who knows i might end up just like her. eating my dress and drink that bad sea water. which is really that helthy for us. it would take time to regain our health int at matter. i have also seen that i am so saddened by such tragic accident. and that woman. so brave of her, really. i jus hope nothing would ever happened like that again in our seas. jhelai

Maybe eating other person's clothes because if i do eat mine, surely I'll suffer hypothermia. Drinking sea water in large amount is unhealthy. Drinking small quantities without ever offsetting it with fresh water is also very clearly unhealthy. As most times it would be impossible, if not extremely hard, to supplement sea water with a proper amount of fresh water in a survival situation, it is best to avoid it altogether.

Janebeth, I don't know if you've seen this program on TV, called man vs. nature. I've seen more horrid things than this. What would you call a man surviving in the middle of the desert drinking his own piss and eating insects to survive? Eating one's dress and drinking sea water is anyday better, even though I feel sorry for the woman who had to survive in that condition.

There are many of these survival stories. Thank God for saving her. We must respect such people. They have survivor instincts.May God bless them a long and meaningful life. There was also an Indonesian lady 5 years back that came out to the tsunami by clinging to a palm tree and eating its leaves and sucking the juice from the palm fronds. Some,in the past, have practiced cannibalism to stay alive1

Oh i am quite sad to hear this but if i were in her position then i would also have done the same cause after all when someone is hungry then he/she would be ready to eat anything...but eating our own dress is quite odd but would that be digested or not...that's the only question...
